Ground water availability may soon be a literal matter of life and death if gloval warming produces some of the great changes that have been predicted.
But, what of the other grand "theft" of ground water in Utah. I am not talking about arid nearly uninhabited border regions of the state. Let us look right here in the Salt Lake Valley to our loss of 70 square miles of aquifiers beneath southwest areas due to Kennecott pollution.
Kennecott is being allowed to leave this in its badly polluted condition. All they are required to do is pump and treat water for current use.
We face an uncertain future. We, here in the capital city of this Great State, should have confidence that all the water resources nearby will be able to be used or conserved as needed.
Kennecott should be forced to spend the estimated $1 billion needed to clean up OUR aquifier.
Why are our politicians, press, and regulators so dim as not to have thought of this and worked this out for our good?
