I'm so glad to hear that the fundraiser went well. I'm wondering, though, how is it that this family has NO insurance? There are plenty of programs out there to cover kids today. I hope this is a reminder to all of us to make sure we get our kids covered as well as ourselves.

Just focus on the good this BBQ did and all the support Bridger is getting from his family, friends and community.

Cynics - take your questions and comments elsewhere.

My husband and I both work full-time with well known companies around here, yet our portion of the medical insurance costs is an enormous chunck out of our paychecks. Each year at open enrollment we consider dropping insurance, yet we make too much for SCHIP and other programs. Bottom line, insurance is a big deal but the hospital is able to write off some or all of the medical costs. The emotional costs are much higher and this type of fundraiser and community support will help enormously.

A friend and I were able to go to the fundraiser last night. I appreciate being able to do a small bit to help Bridger. I received a back massage so left feeling good physically and mentally. It was a great effort by those who put this event together. I wish Bridger and his family the best.

IT HAPPENS MORE OFTEN THAN NOT!
1. Make too much too qualify for medicaid & chip, your employer doesn't provide it and you don't make enough to pay for it yourself.
Many, Many people are in this situation! Sometimes it is better to quit working so you can qualify for medicaid, food and housing assistance.. This is a very sad & messed up system I know. You are helped more for sitting at home and not trying to provide for yourself. If you try to go out to work you will make too much to qualify for govt. assistance but to little to pay your own insurance.

I wasn't able to make it to Orem last night, but I'm glad to hear that the fundraiser went well. Major kudos to Bridger's friends for putting it together!
