Utah, BYU ticket war heating up

Hey Cougar Fans = JOKE, very well stated. It's kind of like the faithfull Utah fans talking trash about and mocking BYU who happen to be LDS. A school that their church owns and who their apostles happen to be the board of directors of. It comes from both sides, so don't act like BYU has a corner on the market for arrogant or ignorant fans. I will be the first to admitt that there are some BYU fans that embarass me. That said there are alot more BYU fans that I would rather watch a game with than Utah fans, and my best friend happens to be a Utah fan. We just know how to have alot of fun with it.

Your problem is you hate BYU so bad that you lump all BYU fans into one stereotypical bunch. By the way what do you care if a few BYU fans are using football as a tool to drive people away from our church, unless you actually happen to be a memmber. Don't forget, I actually agreed with you in part.

Ignorance.

I'll take you bet.

Don't feel sorry for me. I don't have a hateful attitude, I just won't take my kids to RES again. Were fine with that.

Next to Oakland, RES has the most crass crowds I have ever seen...

I've watched the Chargers play, Dodgers, Angels, Packers, 49er,UCLA and USC all play at home, the fans soak up a few beers and enjoy the game. The Jai Alai arena in Tijuana draws a classier crowd.

I get tired of everyone thinking no one has been out of the state. My "Stupid little box", what an arrogant, holier than thou statement. It's sort of small thinking, don't you think. Ignorance on your part does not change the facts. There are classier crowds at Port O Call and the Paladium here in SLC.

Face it, if you have really ever been to RES, you have seen it. Saying the stadium is more family friendly than 99.9% of the others is just plain stupid.

I do like your statement "Rice Eccles is not worse than other stadiums in the country".

I think that should be the U's next slogan to sell tickets. That tells how family friendly it really is.

You want to get riled up, read some of your own Ute fans posts.
Talk about anger and arrogance.

I'm sorry there clarification man.

When you said "7 consecutive bowl wins" it implies 7 years in a row. That's how words work. They have meanings, and it's good to know those meanings when you use them.

What YOU meant was the last 7 bowl games Utah played in.

See, if you worked at McDonalds last week M-W-F, and the week before that T-Th, you would have worked 5 days in two weeks, not 5 consecutive days.

"Get it? Probably not."

Just trying to help there, little bro.

Serious question here... | 5:38 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
Why do cougar fans think Ute fans care how many people sit in their stadium?

I'm a Utah alum. I went to all the home games as a student and only ONCE saw the "empty" stadium described by haughty cougar fans on these threads...and that was the game against UTEP back in '98 where it was snowing and 0 degrees outside. Even THEN it was about 2/3 full, and the '98 season followed the 6-6 season of '97, so there wasn't as much excitement about the season a decade ago vs. the season forthcoming. Not to mention the fact that my enjoyment of a football game is NOT contingent of how many OTHER people also watched the game.
PURPLE, RED, AND BLUE | 7:25 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
All of this bickering drives me nuts! I graduated from Weber State, Work for the University of Utah, and I am a huge BYU fan. I have friends who route for both teams. Part of the great thing about a rivalry is being able to enjoy the game with fans from the other school. When BYU lost 0-3 in the snow down at LES, I took a Utah fan. We sat side-by-side and had a great time. I hope both schools go undefeated and we have a great rivalry game up at RES in November.
Re: Anonymous 1:51 am | 7:28 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
Classic BYU fan. Has no idea how things work in college football. Go check the current longest bowl streaks on SI or ESPN. They have Boston College listed first with 8 CONSECUTIVE bowl wins. Utah is listed second with 7 CONSECUTIVE bowl wins.

It does not matter that there were breaks in between, Utah still gets credit for the streak because they didn't lose a bowl game in '00 or '02.

I think its great that you could use YOUR work schedule to try an clarify, but it is like comparing apples to oranges when you compare college football to YOUR work schedule at a fast food restaurant.

Drop me a letter when BYU actually wins 3 bowl games in a row.

And did I see a BYU fan say that Utah is now BYU'S BOWL GAME????? My how times have changed. Hahahahahahahahahaha

You're right. We are strictly Cougar fans and we have bought 24 Utah season tickets just to make sure we got to that game. Go Cougars!
Season Tickets | 8:26 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
The OLDEST byU argument against Utah is "they can't sell out their stadium...right?

So, Utah has 27,700. They save 11,000 for Utah students in the MUSS and player's/coaches family/friends. They save another 3,500 for visiting team tickets. Total that and you have 42,200 tickets already spoken for. For a stadium that seats aroudn 45,000...that's not too bad for being a month away.

As of today...there can be no more smack about the U not "selling" their tickets.
Coug27 | 8:25 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
I also bought season tickets, 6 to be exact. And no, not cheap endzone seats, actually they're in W09. I agree, there will be an empty sea of red for 5 home games this year, and hopefully a stadium that's almost half blue come November...GO COUGS!!
CLASSIC BYU FAN | 9:03 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
THOSE ARE "BOWL STREAKS". YOU NEED TO ADD THE WORD STREAK TO GET THE MEANING. WORDS HAVE MEANINGS.

GO AND READ WHAT WAS ORIGINALLY POSTED. WHAT WAS TYPED ORIGINALLY IS NOT ONLY CONFUSING, BUT IMPOSSIBLE. IF IT HAD BEEN POSTED THE WAY YOU SAID. FINE. I'M NOT BEING WEIRD, JUST THAT IT ORIGINALLY MADE NO SENSE. JUST TRYING TO HELP A LITTLE BRO. I MADE IT A UTE SCHEDULE TO HELP HIM UNDERSTAND.

I REALLY DON'T WORK, EXCEPT I SHOW UP ONCE A WEEK, OR ONCE ON NON-CONSECUTIVE WEEKS, DEPENDING ON WHAT I'M DOING ELSEWHERE.

I LIKE HELPING THE UNEDUCATED MASSES THIS WAY.

re:Selling Tickets and Serious question here...

Read the story. It't titled "Utah, BYU ticket war heating up".

That's what the story is about. hence the posts.

I am happy your stadium is filling up. You will like sitting by the BYU people. They enjoy the game because they like sharing the gosple. That, or football. I can't remember.

jgjiv | 10:05 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
To Season Tickets.
From me its not an "argument", its more of a complaint. I just feel that instead of the U working to sell out their stadium (they get close on average lately), they should be talking expansion....if only the fans would be more passionate.
Note...that is passion for the Utes...not passion for your hate of BYU.
re:jgjiv | 10:05 a.m | 10:19 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
I'm sure they are planning expansion for RES.

not a notre dame wannabe school like BYU and the Toilet bowl winning Utah Utes. go revel in your meaningless pathetic conference and your foolish hopes of playing for a national championship when chances are that you will never get into a bcs game ever again. GO TROJANS
This is great ! | 10:50 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
I may not always be this way, with both BYU and U having great teams and high expectations. It seems to be that the Y up and the U is down or the U is up and the Y is down. We should enjoy it while we have it.

Also any college football fan loves a good rivalry and we have a good one brewin' here (no pun intended U fan). All this banter is proof that the Y/U rivalry belongs in top 10 nationwide. Red vs. Blue, close proximity, good tradition for both schools, catchy name (Holy War), close games that are usually within three points (several 34-31's, 0-3), etc...
12:55 and still great seats! | 11:08 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008

re: I watch real football | 11:33 a.m. Aug. 4, 2008
Funny, Notre Dame IS the pretender... BYU is much better than ND (Cougars finish in the top 15 the past two CONSECUTIVE years!) As for Utah, the last time the USC Trojans played vs. Utah, it was the UTES who beat your beloved Trojans (Vegas bowl--look it up). Oh, and USC is sooo great that they lost to the worst PAC-10 team, AT HOME, last year! Yeah, that's right, how did that 35 home-game-winning-streak feel coming to an end against POWERHOUSE STANFORD?! BYU and UTAH play REAL football you Trojan BCS elitist! Let's see... BYU is on a 3 game winning streak against the beloved PAC-10... win vs the U of A Wildcats, a slaughter of the Oregon (Donald) Ducks, and a win against UCLA! Possibly two more this fall with Washington and UCLA! Come back when your Trojan goggles have a prescription to see the REAL picture!

"The OLDEST byU argument against Utah is "they can't sell out their stadium"".

True, but I think the oldest is that BYU has the better program, more national awards, that "sticky" National Championship that comes with a #1 ranking.

The new ones, Harline is still open and 4th and 18, UNLV and Joe Glen.

Personally, I would just love it if BYU and Utah cut ties, and didn't play each other anymore.

It would leave Utah to stand on it's own two feet. I have two cousins playing well for Utah this year, so I want Utah to do well. Sad thing is that they wante to play for BYU, but couldn't get a scholarship.

Utah fans, I really think it sucks to be you, so I understand all of the hate.

BYU is not arrogant, or holier than thou, just better.

Utah is jealous, hence the byU, kewgs, etc.

Cut the apron strings, let go of big brother, and Weber State will become a home and home series, and eventually a better program.

You had Urban, we had Crowton, and for a sec. there, you were competative.

Things are back to normal.

Deal with it.
Differences | 12:32 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
BYU has far more depth at the skill positions than Utah. BYU could handle more key losses to injuries than Utah. I think it has been seen the past two years than if Utah is without Johnson or Castillo they are in trouble. Injuries will play a bigger role for Utah than BYU.

Outside of Johnson whom I believe is a threat that has not fulfilled expectations, Utah has Mack and Castillo but who else offensively is a skilled threat?

BYU has Hall, Pitta, Collie, Unga, Fui, Reed, Allen, and George who are all play makers. It is the limited skill players for Utah verses the more ubundant number of BYU. BYU may lose to Utah this year but still wins the conference.

Johnson will miss two games minimum due to injury somewhere along the way.

I've grown up in Provo and now live in San Diego, but everytime I visit home the valley is more and more crowded. So when is BYU going to fill in those stadium corners or add a nosebleed balcony? It's past time to expand that staduim (especially if their going to practically sellout to season tickets alone).

"Does it really county [sic] when you have people trapped on campus...remember most U students live outside of the campus...[and have more opportunities]..."

In other words. Utah students have more important things to do than to attend Utah football games.

A stunning, but true, admission from a Utah fan.

More than 45,000 fans who aren't BYU students attend BYU games regularly -- more than enough to FILL RES. Thousands of BYU fans come from all over the state and all over the country to attend BYU football games -- especially from California, Nevada, Arizona, and Idaho.
Re:Differences | 1:51 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
You are a homer. Utah has just as many "weapons" as BYU does, its just that you don't follow the Utes so you would only recognize names called during a Y vs U game. You show your lack of knowledge of any team outside of the Y when you refer to "Castillo", I think you might mean Brent Casteel. They have Asiata, Freddie Brown, Bradon Godfrey, David Reed (Juco transfer), Aiona Key (Juco Transfer), Jereme Brooks.

Really? BYU has more depth at skill positions? You're talking about a Utah team that lost its 4 best players by week 2 (3 of them at skill positions) and still won 9 games. If Hall went down the first play of the season, the Cougars would be lucky to win 6 games, same goes for Unga.

Bowls | 2:15 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
BYU has been in 26, and Utah has only been in 13?

But I thought Utah was better than BYU?

Hey, wasn't it harder to get in a bowl back in the 80's and 90's. That would make the quality of opponents stronger too.

And placing 1st in conference, don't you also get tougher opponents than playing representing third in MWC.

It's sort of like basketball this year.

The NCAA gets their teams, then the NIT, and then the Church Ball tourney Utah played in, and when Utah won after losing both games to BYU they whined "Why no respect?"

Are you Utes seeing a trend here?
re:re: Differences | 2:16 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
"Really? BYU has more depth at skill positions? You're talking about a Utah team that lost its 4 best players by week 2."

Man isn't that sort of harsh to the rest of the guys playing to say the 4 injured were the 4 best? Maybe that's why Loui Sakota is reading golf books, because he's not one of the best.

Here are some stats that I think will be quite interesting:
Veterinary Science Students: Utah 35 BYU 47
Gallons of water used each day:Utah 2,730, BYU 3,450
Amount of Grass per capita: Utah 4 sq ft BYU 3sq ft
Kids whose mom's went to the rival school
Utah 750 BYU 437
Percentage of how past performances from past teams will affect the performance of today's team in a real situation? Utah 0% BYU 0%

People, the past is the past, yada yada. This is gearing up to be the best season yet for both teams. Let's do our playing on the field and not on paper (like the BCS does). FOOTBALL IS ALMOST HERE! THERE WILL BE SOMETHING ON ESPN BESIDES BASEBALL!

Now That was a solid stat re: bowl games. Takes that bowl streak pride down a notch.

How about the longest win streak in the country? (Not 2nd longest. Not just bowls) Never could have done it without you Utah! Of course everyone else in the country gets to point to you guys as too weak of competition to make much of our streak. Kind of like what we just saw.

"It will probably be for the conference championship."

Little over the top here. The end game may have confrence champ implimentations, but to say BYU and Utah will be tied for 1st come that game is pretty much way off odds.

Maybe BYU or Utah tied as champs or secure the victory for one or the other.

Re: Anonymous | 4:34 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
You're a pretty old codger if you are calling me young. Fact is, you Zoobs have these big heads right now, and not really any good reason to boast. You barely escape with undeserved miracle victories against depleated UCLA (no coach, .500 record) and Utah (injury riddled) teams which were only explained by "magic" and qualified by that POS Collie that good things happen when you live right off the field. Well, if that's true then the Cougs are gonna fall so flat on their faces this year for their pride and self-righteousness. Everything evens out, man. For all the crazy luck you've had lately, you better get ready for some heartbreaker losses this year and next. That is why I'm gearing up my sides to be aching after a good laugh at the Great Fall of the Cougars this year. 8-4, here you come.

"Many BYU fans are buying season tickets to Utah just for the one game. I guess there goes the myth of BYU fans being cheap!"

It's true, we are buying tickets to enjoy the upcoming win in Ute-ville. We are giving the rest of the game tickets to Ute fans because it's hard for them to afford tickets on a gas-station attendent's salary.
re:4:34 pm whiner | 6:49 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
I just read your post, and figured anyone who put something like that out, you must be closer to 12-13 in age.

Reading your last post, I'm still thinking junior high mentality or senility.

Either way, hang onto your sides there little fella. You'll grow up soon and leave the land of unicorns and leprechans.

Your right, no reason to boast. #17 in the country, the longest win streak in the nation, and two consecutive undefeated MWC Championships mean nothing when your Utes are the defending tied for third in conference with a squeaker by the Mighty Navy team.

Injury excuse, BYU played injured. Too much pride? More of a swagger, I'd say.

Still whining about Collie? Wasn't that a year ago, and your poor widdle feelings still hurt.

I'd even say BYU is still more humble with all that than Utah (re-read your own post).

I have the feeling you'll still be talking about what your going to do 5 years from now, because the Utah teams I've seen lately are really not that impressive on the field, and I don't see that changing.

The only ones laughing last year were the UNLV coaches from watching game films.
Lehi Coug | 6:54 p.m. Aug. 4, 2008
The only reason that the utes are selling a lot of season tickets is because all of the BYU fans are buying them for the big game. Utah couldn't fill that measly stadium, just look what happened last year at their own homecoming when Utah State had more fans than they did.
True Ute | 9:27 a.m. Aug. 5, 2008
Everyone in the Ute nation knows that there are really only about 25,000 hardcore Utes. We have pride in our team and are there for EVERY game, come rain, shine, snow, sleet, even "birds from Wyoming",. Zoobies are not better because they have more butts in seats, even if they are self righteous butts. Running attendance smack is just plain weak! I have been to games in what I consider to be the second most beautiful stadium in the country (Husky stadium is prettier-you will see this season), Lavell Edwards Stadium, and the place is more akin to a graveyard than a football stadium. BOOOOOORRRIINNGG!!!!!! Coug "fans" spend more time waiting in line for a caffeine free Diet Coke than they do watching the game anyway!

Good enough for Utah now? | 5:04 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
NEW YORK -- The NFL implemented a new code of fan conduct Tuesday, warning that spectators who misbehave will be ejected from stadiums and barred from coming back.

The policy, first recommended by commissioner Roger Goodell at league meetings in April, is aimed at conduct that the league said "detracts from the gameday experience."

It includes bans on:

Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal.

Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.

Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

Interference with the progress of the game, including throwing objects onto the field.

Failing to follow instructions of stadium personnel.

Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.

"The in-stadium experience is critically important to the NFL, our clubs and our fans and it will be a major focus this season," Goodell said in a statement. "We are committed to improving the fan experience in every way we can -- from the time fans arrive in the parking lot to when they depart the stadium."

Think it's time to clean up RES?
Peter Pumpkin-eater | 8:55 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
Any fan who takes their wife and children to RES will be exposed to alcohol and profanity, and thus, must not love their family enough to put them through all that. STAY HOME!!! And keep your kids out of public schools. And little league. And never let them use a public facility. Maybe you should just never let them out of your house, taking special care they never meet anyone else. No TV, no internet, no books (other than the scriptures of course). And your wife must wear a burka. That's called "family values".
Ute fans | 9:27 p.m. Aug. 6, 2008
Get out of your bubble.

Go to any NFL stadium in the country, and it's going to be more like a BYU crowd.

I wish RES was family friendly. I could take my kids to a game.

These four stick out:

Behavior that is unruly, disruptive, or illegal (open containers and public intoxication are against the law).

Drunkenness and signs of alcohol impairment that result in irresponsible behavior.

Foul or abusive language or obscene gestures.

Verbal or physical harassment of fans from the opposing team.

All things openly seen at RES.
Re:Peter | 9:03 a.m. Aug. 7, 2008
Well, good morning Mr. Happy,

My kids television is monitored and internet are monitored, and the rules at their school are much stricter.

The NFL is tired of boorish, obnoxious fans, and they are doing something about it.

How about the U of Utah follow the lead of the NFL. Why do we need the only stadium/road house bar in the country?

Moste these thing are illegal in the real world anway, out of the confines of the protective RES bubble.

Try pulling any of this off at a Ruth Cris Steakhouse or what you Ute fand call Dennys.

Burka? A tad over the top/ hypersensitive?

You are an angry little drama queen, aren't you.
Anonymous | 12:05 p.m. Aug. 7, 2008
"You are an angry little drama queen, aren't you."

Nope. Just a staunch supporter of the 1st Amendment.

As a student in the late 90s, I went to all the games at RES and sat in the student section. Never had I experienced all the "horror" of "inappropriate" behavior, but then again, I wasn't exactly looking for it either. I was NEVER drunk, and while I DID see some students smuggling flasks into the stadium, I never observed them causing any trouble.

Nobody should be forced to submit to YOUR hypersensitive brand of [self]righteousness. Either STAY HOME, or admit you love football more than your family.

I believe it was Joseph Smith, Jr. who once said, "Teach them correct principles, and allow them to govern themselves." I believe it was Lucifer that promoted forcing individuals to correct principles. Whom do you follow Mr. Family Guy?
