Seldom want to pay the price? Americans are eager to have our government pay for everything. That's the problem. It's time to re-evaluate our financial priorities.

Finally, the Deseret News is bringing attention to one of the most serious problems in Salt Lake County. While the editorial board has been consumed with soccer stadiums and broadway style theaters they gave a huge pass to the County Mayor and County Council who have avoided their highest priotity to protect the lives and property of the residents of Salt Lake County. Talk to local police officers and sheriff's officers and learn of their disgust that by the time they have dropped off a criminal to the jail and return to their patrol assignment, the criminal is back at work. The concept of detention centers has not been effective as for the most part there has been little if any follow up. This is the second Salt Lake County Sheriff to try to gain the attention of Mayor Corroon and the County Council. The County Mayor, and County Council, should be held accountable for the untold number of criminals who are back on the street because of their indifference. The Deseret News has granted these folks the status of "Obama" and has allowed this travesty to go unreported. Thank you for finally addressing a real issue of concern.

Agree with the writer's opinion! We've got to get much tougher on crime and criminals in this valley and keeping them locked up for the duration of their sentences would be a good start.

The new conservative pejorative is "Obama." It's evil that Obama can attack people like he was a rock star while McCain puts people to sleep. Charisma is a horrible think for a leader to have?

I'm sick of mindless hate filled conservative drive by politics. Concerned knows a quick way to get brownie points in Utah is back biting Obama.

Next year the jail and Sheriff's budget will combine to be more than $100 million. Property taxes pay for law enforcement, prosecution, incarceration.

I think the exbow jail could serve as a work release place. That work as a revolving door. The inmates would help by paying their housing and fines.Plus their could be the jail jobs.Want to see people get better surely,a great for everyone.lets help the people with skills and love.LETS WORK FOR BETTER.
