Please let the schools follow this pattern as well.

Teachers could save gas money as well as the schools. Both need every penny they can get.

Jeff Herring, in a position appointed by the Governor, thinks the Governor's idea is brilliant. This is newsworthy?

"Good government" is limited government held to its proper role, period. Management schemes are the province of managers. On the other hand, Governor Huntsman's support of transparency and accountability can lead to limited government (i.e. good government). At the level of governance, it is the difference between management and leadership.

As far as a model for schools, is that how we learn best? Lots of hours in fewer days? Probably just burn out everyone involved...and when burn out sets in, no amount of hours will be sufficient. Why not try fewer hours on more days spread throughout the year?

Innovative? Hardly. I've know some businesses that were doing this 15-20 years ago. I'm sure that others were doing it before that.

A law degree and a MBA does not a leader make. General George Custer thought himself a leader, no doubt up until the time the light faded from his eyes.
Leadership: we may be heading in the wrong direction but we're making good time.
Leadership: if it isn't broken, break it. Then you can show leadership by fixing what you broke.

An unworkable burden on the family.

My sister works for the state. She left her home at 7 am and rode frontrunner to work, which took 1 and a half hours. With commute time, she will not return home until 8:30 tonight. Her children will be away at school no Fridays when she has time off. This schedule is completely unworkable with children.
