I don't know why I keep trying to post comments on desnews articles. The last 3 times I have tried to comment on different articles they never appeared. My comments were well thought out and informative that I believed added value to the discussions. They contained less then 200 words had no URLs were not abusive, offensive, off-topic, or misrepresentative. I don't understand it, espically with some of the dribble trash that gets through like the comment at 3:12 PM.

Where in the constitution are we promised the "Right to $2.00 per gallon gas"? Nobody is forced to buy gas. If you don't like the price, don't buy it. It is not the government's responsibility to provide us with a certain standard of living. Can't afford gas? Shut off your cable! Cancel your cell phone! Ride the bus! Ride your bike! Eat less! Quit buying $5 Sodas at the buzz games!! Purchasing gas is a choice just like any other item in this list.

Simple facts to consider | 6:34 p.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Several facts I must state:
-Retailers are not making much profit on gas prices is true.
-Gas wholesalers and suppliers are stealing from us via collusion and price-fixing. They get to charge the world rates on barrels of oil that cost maybe $25 to $45 dollars a barrel to pull out of the ground domestically.
-Utah, due to dominant state religion, is somewhat disconnected from the national economy and tends to lag behind national economic trends by a few months.
-Planet Utah concept is alive and well, we didn't know gas prices were so much lower in other states until reading this article. Due to our geography more than anything else. We are 6 to 8 hours away from the next largest metro areas.
-We now think sub $4 gas is bargain. We've been slowly boiled to this point. Boiled frog.
-It took less than 7 years for gas to go from $1.15 a gallon (before 9-11-2001) to $4.15 a gallon in 2008.
-$3 a gallon gas is still a ripoff!
-$2 a gallon gas maybe fair considering inflation.
-The official federal rate of inflation no longer accounts for gas prices as it did in the 1970's.

You people that are blogging about the oil Co's and their investors must think the rest of us are complete idiots to buy your ridiculous reasoning. Yes they are making a profit for their investors and THEMSELVES while decietfully driving up the prices. This is big money for a tiny, tiny, very small percentage of people compared to our countries population. Fraction of a percent to be correct. Does that make it right? Steal from the masses so that a small fraction can profit and gain? GREED, GREED is all it is. We don't live in caves out here Mr know it all.
Cheapest Gas in SLC--I have seen | 10:13 p.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Jusst so you know: at the Chevron gas station on the corner of 90th south and State was $4.09 on July 31 when I filled up. That is the cheapest I have seen it around here besides Costco.
Cheap LV | 10:58 p.m. Aug. 1, 2008
Liquor is also cheaper in Las Vegas and you can even buy it in grocery stores. When adulthood is legalized in Utah maybe you can be trusted with cheap gas and booze.

I tried this morning to put in my comment, but it wasn't printed so here's try #2. I went to Costco here in WVC and I still had to pay $4.03 a gal. still alot higher then most of the other states. So I ask why is it so high here in UT. After reading this article I think everyone is just passing the buck of blame. This state's government just closes their eyes. Well this time come elections I won't be listening to empty promises from those who already are in office in this state and who want to be re-elected. They haven't shown me they work for the people here.

It's a simple matter of supply and demand. The gas companies want to make a profit and enough Utahans are ignorant enough to 1. drive too fast 2. drive too much 3. fail to reward lower gas prices

Don't blame the elected officials or the gas suppliers. Blame those who drive over the speed limits, drive needlessly, and use gas guzzling SUVs and trucks.

My point is that in our capitalist system, people are free to chose. There is nothing stopping you from owning part of these oil companies. If you think they are making excess profits, you are free to share in that. As for your small percentage claim, more than 30% of Americans own a piece of the oil companies in some form.

I don't know how you can call it stealing when people willingly give up their money for their product. You chose to purchase a car, you chose to drive it. Where is the theft here?

By the way, every for profit company in the world fits your definition of greedy, get over it.

And to the guy that is starting "2 hate america", how can you afford internet access and a computer?

re: To Misplaced Loyalties | 2:42 p.m. Aug. 1, 2008

How's this for a start? Phil Gramm, who I am certain was good friends with W's daddy, is responsible along with McCain for the Commodities modernization act of 2000 which caused Enron & this bubble.

It is the speculators who are reaping the whirlwind profits along w/ Shell, etc...

Does it surprise anyone that Utah is behind the curve in terms of recent events?

All things being what they are; I hope this cheap gas in Vegas continues when I head down in Sept... I'll time it so I don't have to stop to fill in S Utah.
