But if you throw in the caveat that it's a repressive environment and also if you fail to keep them in line you could be expelled - then that is a breeding ground for mental and physical abuse.
In fact, abuse would be mandatory in that situation. I submit that there is no way to live in the FLDS, under current management rules, without mandatory abuse. Even if the abuse occurs when the children are extremely young, so the father doesn't have to deal with insubordination later, it's still abuse.
