Stop supporting American Idol. It's just karaoke. It's worthless.
Clare | 9:36 a.m. July 27, 2008
If people want to do this, why not let them. I for one, as a trained classical singer, am not impressed by what I've heard on the show, but, hey, if it makes people happy, go for it. David A. definitely has talent. May I suggest you listen to some great classical singers such as Dawn Upshaw, Kathleen Battle, Bryn Terfel, etc,... Now they can sing! Go see the HD broadcasts which are being sent live to you local theater from the Metropolitan Opera. It was totally amazing! Mozart, Puccini, Verdi, etc,... may your glorious music rule FOREVER!

People who support American Idol are not harming you in any way. I think it is wonderful to let people use their talents. I enjoy watching the show, and I am glad that people get the opportunity to share their beautiful voices with millions of people when they normally would not get to. Don't be a sour grape!

American Idol is one of the few 'reality shows' that is worthwhile. People are competing with talent (or lack of) for the prize. The winners move on, and as finalists are chosen, you have a group of performers who are pretty good. Watching them is entertaining; the best ones get recording deals, and watching the really bad ones in the beginning is pretty entertaining too. The program is fun to watch.

For every David Archuleta, there's at least 3 William Hungs.

does anybody know how long the wait is to get a ticket ?????
Anonymous | 2:43 p.m. July 27, 2008
I would love to see another Utahn make it big on AI. It has been (and still is) so fun to watch David Archuleta perform. He is just amazing. Good luck to all the serious competetitors!
billy | 2:47 p.m. July 27, 2008
ya, how long is the wait down at the EnergySolutions Arena to get a wristband >>>
Anonymous | 3:46 p.m. July 27, 2008
I got there about eight o'clock this morning, and no kidding it was exactly thirty minutes from the time I got out of my car until I got back in. The line was SHORT.

Anyone infected with American Idol fever really is sick. Very sick.

FOX-13 just did a cute live shot... Happy Joe Wren. It looks like there were several thousand auditioners today!
jomo | 7:12 p.m. July 27, 2008
We walked in at 10:00 am and went straight to the desk, got out wristband and went home... no wait at all.

Oh, for the days of Chuck Barris, a large gong, and Gene, Gene the dancin' machine.
Tanya | 8:44 p.m. July 27, 2008
I stood in line since 4am and got really close to the front of the line. I'm so excited and I'm also home sick. I come from Honolulu Hawaii and want to make my family and myself proud.

Just for fun! | 9:40 p.m. July 27, 2008
I went to SLC and got a wristband to tryout today. I went at 10:30, and like jomo, I walked right up to the table, got a band, and went home. It took all of about 1 minute. The reality is that most people that tryout on Tuesday won't make it past the first round, but hey! Why not enjoy the unique experience that we will have just giving it a shot and being in that environment. I hope all of you that are trying out enjoy yourselves and have a fun ride! Good luck!

Works too much 4 Idol Spotlight | 1:06 a.m. July 28, 2008
I worked a 12 1/2 hr shift at work that eventually got out at 4:15am. I drove by the Arena to see if the line was getting larger. Even though, by body was begging for sleep I parked my scooter and stood in line. I'm very curious what the producer(s) are searching for this year!

Good luck to all the Utah hopefuls. It's fun seeing Utah talent on Idol, Dancing with the Stars and So You Think You Can Dance.

I'd watch AI if part of the criteria was composing and performing your own music. That would provide great entertainment AND meaning. I'd like to see someone up there who has something to say.
Hey | 1:27 p.m. July 28, 2008
You know what anonymous . . . that is great that you would watch if composing was a criterion. But guess what? Tens of millions of people watch the way it is. So I don't think they'll be hurting when you don't tune in.
tv lineup | 3:42 p.m. July 28, 2008
Fox has '24' & House... everything else they show is crap.
The Authority | 4:18 p.m. July 28, 2008
Man, I wish this show would go away.
Hint to Authority | 4:38 p.m. July 28, 2008
See the big box in front of your face, it may be black, it may have moving pictures on it. Now, probably on your lap is this little item with lots of buttons on it, unless you are my 82 year old mother in law and only watch one station, you take the hand thing with buttons, and push the up and down arrow. POOOOFFFFFF, it goes away!!!! OH, and when you are forced to turn on this little screen and the only place you can go is to Deseret News and the only stories you get are about American Idol, you can go to your web browser and find the whole wide world out there. You are free, you don't have to watch just that show, you don't have to read only about that show, it will go away. But, part of going away, is if you go away.

Dave Baichu | 4:42 p.m. July 28, 2008
Every one just want to see David Archuleta perform!!!!!NOT DAVID COOK
Farce | 4:41 p.m. July 28, 2008
It's nothing more than a FARCE just like 75% of the reality shows on TV today. Dream on everyone, while FOX gets rich off from your viewership, and the advertisements they get a ton for. Real reality, common sense, dedication, are all gone by the wayside in favor of something called FANTASY. Media doesn't blow my skirt in the air with their HYPE. Get real folks.
MoJules | 4:41 p.m. July 28, 2008
I doubt that many of the kids that auditioned are reading this, but please, don't look for the easy way out. Get an education or some training in a skill, it is not a real world out there when it comes to the arts and sports profession. It is pretty bad when people are waiting for the pot at the end of the rainbow, trust me, it isn't there, you have to create it.
Changes? | 4:50 p.m. July 28, 2008
I am interested in seeing if they will make any changes to the format. Simon said that there needs to be drastic changes in how it is done and I agree with anonymous that making the contestants compose and perform a song would make it much better and make it more of contest to find muscicians and not jsut someone who can sing. I think with how crazy Simon is that this season will have quite a few changes in it. I still won't watch it but When one of the producers says it is getting old and needs changes then you know something is going to happen and it will be something big. I think they should do something like So You Think You Can Dance does where they make the contestants do differnet genres. That would shake things up. It would show a lot of versatility. Oh well. Hopefully Simon can mix things up and keep viewers on their toes.
Steve - Re: Just for Fun! | 5:04 p.m. July 28, 2008
You shouldn't try out for "Idol" just for kicks, you should be serious about it if you're going to try out. I mean what if you make it onto the show and into the final 24 or 12 and a singing career isn't what you really want. Only those who really want this as a career should try out.

But even as I say that, there's David Cook... he only went to the tryouts as a support to his brother and threw his own name into the ring on a lark and what happens? He ends up winning the whole thing. Although he also happened to want it as a career so it worked out.
Granny5 | 5:15 p.m. July 28, 2008
If someone wants to show their talent, or lack of, let them. It is a free country afterall. The naysayers just need to take care of themselves and let everyone else alone. These people stood in line and deserve some respect for that alone. Me, I have no talent, wouldn't try out for anything, but have the sense to allow others to do what they want without putting them down.
Susan | 9:12 p.m. July 28, 2008
I don't think I can watch Season 8 since David Archuleta will not be there. He will be greatly missed on American Idol.
Porter Rockwell | 10:31 p.m. July 28, 2008
Very interesting that the audition was held on a Sunday morning. You don't suppose that there were alot of Young Men & Women (as well as adults) missing from church that day?

I am so going to miss David Archuleta performing on season 8. Dang.
