Utah Jazz roll dice and match offer for Miles

For those that don't know, matching OKlahoma's offer means they can not package and trade CJ! :(
He may turn into a decent player, but I am sick of the Jazz over paying for "potential"!!! Did they not learn their lesson on OVERPAYING for Ostertag's and Kirilenko's WAY OVERPAID contracts? At least DWill and Booze proved they deserved their money!
That said this is the year we either make it or not. All of the proverbial eggs are in one basket.
The big money makers usually turn out (at least with the jazz) to not be worth the money once the ink is dried on the contract, i.e. AK!
I wonder how hard Larry Miller and O'Connor had to twist Sloans arm to say that last comment.
Common People RMR does not make the player at best it shows the coaches where a players development is at. That is why they resigned Miles because the RMR showed coaches how one dimensional of a player Almond still is.
A bigger concern fo us the fans and the Jazz should be the center position. KOFO and FES still are only D-league material and that leaves the Jazz with same problem as last year and that is no inside presence. Probably should have made a stab at Camby. Jazz will have the same results as last year until there is a defensive presence in the middle and thats not Okur or Collins.
I agree Jimmy should retire it, but it does bring out some humor in others.
CJ, time will tell whether or not the Jazz messed up. But, until they can clog up the middle and play D, don't expect more than another annual playoff appearance. Hopefully, Booz didn't play D because of injury. I am not excited to see him or D-Will in the Olympics because it is a big injury risk and training camp is only a few short weeks away after the Olympics.
BTW, all players are way over-paid.
Between now and then, I believe the Jazz will try and make one more trade to open up a spot on the team and/or to shore up the interior defense.
Who is likeliest to be involved in that trade? Collins.
For those who worry about the money issue: D-Will is locked up and so the main worry is done. If you are concerned about Boozer or Okur there isn't much the Jazz could do; they'll make an offer to them and try to lock them up. If Boozer and Okur want to win and help the Jazz to a title they will stick around. Also, I know money talks but so does the promise of a title. If Boozer wants to win the title he may be more inclined to stay to help the Jazz. Miami is no closer to a title.
And for those who think Boozer is greedy answer me this: Why is he playing for the US national team in the Olympics? It's for pride; he's made a three-year commitment. If he were greedy (like some other players who refused to play) he would be vacationing right now. Go CJ and go Jazz!!!
Go Jazz!
This is a bad deal for CJ too. A young player like him would be much better off on a rebuilding team where he'd be more likely to get some meaningful playing time. Do the jazz really need Korver, Brewer, Almond, Harpring, AK, Price, AND CJ? Why not just pick 3 and give them all the minutes. You only have so many roster spots available and money under the cap. Now the Jazz depend on other teams to make any moves at all because they can't afford to sign any free agents. Wrong and stupid move to make.
Oklahoma City signed him partly because former Jazz staffer Troy Weaver encouraged them to.
This is a smart move. We will have the versatility of sizes and talent to beat any team. We will have a great run this year.
If you're not going to play him then don't give him 15 million dollars to be an insurance policy 'just in case' someone gets hurt or leaves. Almond or Price can do that job just as well.
Not true. Teams can sign and trade a player within 48 hours of signing a restricted free agent, but after that, would have to wait until December 15th of that year. It's in the NBA's Collective Bargaining agreement. Go read it.
So if we hear something by Monday about the Jazz moving Miles elsewhere, don't be shocked. Personally I would like to get Emeka Okafor to shore up our interior defense, but doubt the Jazz could pull off that deal.
"When those two guys are in together, either one of them can bring the ball up, and either one of them can pressure the ball," Krzyzewski said. "They seem to like to play with one another, and the intelligence of your team is at the highest level when you have two guys like them on the court."
Either Price needs to morph into CP3 or we need Pargo or another PG who can light it up. We are in a position to make a trade with the CJ signing.
We need Brewer to develop a 3 or we need CJ to step up and beat Brewer out. If we can't play D maybe we can out score them. Can Brewer, Almond or CJ learn point?
We need Koufos to learn PF. He is working hard and may be able to play by the end of the year.
(g) After exercising its Right of First Refusal as described in this Section 5, the ROFR Team may not trade the Restricted Free Agent for one (1) year, without the players consent. Even with the players consent, for one (1) year, neither the ROFR Team exercising its Right of First Refusal nor any other Team may trade the player to the Team whose Offer Sheet was matched.
Now the interesting thing is the "without player's consent" meaning if CJ doesn't object then they could still trade him to any team EXCEPT the Hornets.
Korver is a spot up shooter, not a consistent full time player. Too Streaky, when he is hot, play him, when he is not, he'll sit.
Both AK and Harpring are injury risks. Harpring is getting older from the pounding and wont keep up the same intensity as previous. Slow with a bad back. AK is lanky with a frail frame, and has to deal with refs on a nightly basis.
That leaves the best options as CJ, Brewer and Almond as your most consistent players. CJ and Brewer have been in the system now, why start over with Almond.
CJ and Brewer will be your most dependable players over the next few years.
Not to mention all 5 players can play both SG and SF.
Why is everyone so obsessed with trades?Do you realize that every game they lostin the playoffs, they were within 4 points with under four minutes to go. I bring this up to make a point. WE DON'T NEED TO CHANGE THE TEAM. If the Jazz were an old team that was on the decline, a trade for some youth might make some sense. What's going to happen when you give youth like Ronnie Brewer, CJ Miles, DWil, Ronnie Price, and Paul Millsap a year of experience? THEY'RE GOING TO BE BETTER!!!
The Jazz have a legit chance at a title next year with the current team.
1. Deron's even more amazing... 22 and 11 All Star, All NBA, Probably second team.
2. Booz and Memo both have career years (can you say contract year?) Not significantly better than last year.
3. RonnieB and CJ are both going to progress nicely. Both will average double figures. Some people will say that RonnieB should be an allstar (he'll average 16,4,4,and 2.5 steals), but he won't make it. CJ will be an All Star in 4 years (seriously).
4. Andrei and Kyle Korver will be the exact same players they were last year.
5. Morris Almond will play between 5 and 8 minutes per game, in the NBA.
6. Harpring will play about 12-15 minutes per game.
7. Millsap will earn a 4 year 20 million dollar deal.
The Jazz will have the highest Offensive Rating in the history of the NBA (yes, even higher than the Suns a few years back).
The Jazz will win 59 games in a tough western confrence and earn the number 2 seed (maybe #3).
LA-60
UT-58
NO-58
Houston-57
SA-55
Portland-52
GS-50
Dallas-47
Phoenix-43 miss the playoffs
In an amazing 6 game series, DWIL will prove he is the best point in the NBA (even though CP3 will be the MVP), and the Jazz will beat NO in the second round.
The conference finals is where I start to get fuzzy. If LA signs Bynum, the Jazz are going to the finals (because LA will trade Odom for cap purposes, which will especially benefit Boozer). If LA does not trade Odom then the conference finals will be a six or seven game series that is too close to call.
The winner will play the Orlando Magic in the Finals (seriously), and will win the championship in five games.
This is our year!!! CJ will be great!!! Stop complaining and get excited.
First of all, his max year deal was well recieved by most fans, as the was the top Jazz player, in demand by other teams, as well as a great shot blocking defender.
However, there was unpublicized tension between AK and DWill, and AK's touches and scoring effectivness is based on DWill's passing. If anyone watched the 2007 Houston playoff series, they will see AK wide open, AK filling the lane..and DWill looking elsewhere.
regarding the resigning of CJ...don't underestimate DWill's influence in this matter...and yes, the Jazz will have the same logjam at the 2 and 3, with KK's losing pt...the Jazz's best outside shooter.
Teams that win do not have duplicate players but do have some versatile players who can cover injuries. CJ is versatile, the only rub is that now he is more expensive.
The Jazz need a trade that will create more defense or more versatility in their offense or both.
Boozer has trouble with tall PFs. That is when we need 3 point shooters the most. CJ can help. If necessary we can play Korver at 3 and CJ at 2.
AK is working on his shot. Brewer needs more range. Brewer, CJ and Korver need more D. Price needs to improve. We need interior D.
I expect a trade to bring in some D at PF/C if the Jazz are serious about winning the conference.
I think NO maybe the best team right now. The Jazz are the 4th or 5th team. They need at least one more piece.
On the block: Collins, Harpring, AK47.
Problem is...Charlotte already has a player similar to AK47 in Gerald Wallace.
But in theory, if it could be done, we could win the title this season!
Boozer or Okur will probably bail out in their last year, who knows maybe both will. Sad it takes two big men to make one good big man. The two are never defense minded enough to make a difference in the paint. Maybe the Jazz can trade them for one all around big man? Who wants to play for the Jazz??
