Wow! Wait to go Jazz!! Hopefully your investment starts to get some minutes!!
Utahlaw | 3:47 p.m. July 25, 2008
Anxious to see how Morris Almond performs tonight, given this news. He will be out to prove something, methinks.
Stan | 3:48 p.m. July 25, 2008
I'm glad ole' CJ will be sticking around. He does some cool ally-oops.

I believe that with them matching the salary, the Jazz have something in the works, as far as a trade. Whether they are matching Miles' contract for money on a bigger trade or keeping him around and moving some other players, we'll just have to wait and see. But if they aren't making any other changes in this offseason, this move would make no sense. How often does the 11th or 12th man make 4 million a year?
bustbluth | 3:48 p.m. July 25, 2008
I smell a trade coming.
Huh. | 3:51 p.m. July 25, 2008
I didn't think they'd do it. Something tells me there must be a trade in the works involving some other guys on the team.
Freddy | 3:50 p.m. July 25, 2008
I have mixed feelings about this. CJ is a great talent and I think he would thrive on a team if given the minutes. I don't know if it's worth paying him $4 million a year to sit on the bench. Maybe a sign and trade is in the works.
Wow! | 3:54 p.m. July 25, 2008
Does this mean there is another trade coming with one of the Jazz pieces? A lot of people to pay in the next couple of years. If only AKs contract could be dumped.
Maybe | 3:54 p.m. July 25, 2008
Maybe there is a sign-and-trade in the works to send CJ elsewhere and actually get something abck for him...
infundibulum | 3:53 p.m. July 25, 2008
Wow! I'm surprised given the stockpile of young, talented players at that position. Looks like a sign and trade situation to me. I can't see us trading Korver given our need for veteran leadership and a dead-eye shooter, but one of the other three is gone guaranteed!
jro | 3:53 p.m. July 25, 2008
he is only 21, he has showed the ability to improve, in my eyes he will be the starting 3 in 2 years.
Nathan PHX | 3:53 p.m. July 25, 2008
Good move. Heck, great move. 15 guaranteed contracts means there is more to come. C.J. is a blossoming player and am glad he is going to be fighting to earn his minutes as a member of the Jazz. I think AK's future is in jeopardy now. Let's see what goes down!
Utah CO resident | 3:54 p.m. July 25, 2008
C.J. is a part of the puzzle we need. GO JAZZ!!!!
Mr. Oconnor....... | 3:57 p.m. July 25, 2008
Good good move. I really like the decisions you have been making this summer. Getting rid of hart, keeping CJ. Now lets make a move and get AK outta here and bring in a quality big guy!

CJ is a very promising young talent and he can easily replace AK. With some hard work, this kid could be a starter in no time!
NY Jazzfan | 3:57 p.m. July 25, 2008
Great decision...CJ will be even more mature and confident this year. Now, get to camp!
You | 3:56 p.m. July 25, 2008
Gotta Love it BABY!!!!! Good move. Way too much talent to let slip away for nothing. Good luck CJ and I'm VERY glad you're still a Jazzman.
Raw Talent | 3:57 p.m. July 25, 2008
C.J. Miles has so much talent. If he just listens he will be able to develop into a great role player for the jazz. I am glad that we resigned him. He will be a good player for a long time to come. Just needs to step up his defense, and could contribute when A.K. isnt on his game.
Figures | 3:58 p.m. July 25, 2008
Kevin O'connor better have something good in mind. Like a Trade that will fill our needs not our Salary Cap. Miles is good but he is buried on the bench, and his D is soft at times, but he has shown good potential. This leaves us still softer in the middle than a roll of Charmin toilet paper.
Too expensive | 4:01 p.m. July 25, 2008
I would have been fine keeping CJ if the money were less. This was too much, now what are you going to pay Millsap or Brewer next year. Certainly you have to offer them more than $4M per year, and now you've set the bar higher for those guys. And those are players we want to keep for sure. Are you going to give Millsap $8M per year, or how about Brewer, maybe $7M per year? Yikes, both sound like too much to me, and look at the Lakers they are letting their backups leave because they are getting too much money. I think this was a poor decision Jazz.
shocked | 3:59 p.m. July 25, 2008
I'm shocked to see the Jazz matched the offer, but excited to see if CJ ends up being productive. I'm wondering if they are going to move someone, because that is a lot money for someone that doesn't get any minutes.
It's OK | 4:02 p.m. July 25, 2008
I have been against resigning Miles but this does not change the big picture for me. Apparently management knows what they are going to do in the future regarding team salaries so I will trust their decisions and be glad that I live in the state that the Jazz belong to. Go Jazz.
SLC | 4:02 p.m. July 25, 2008
Now that they matched trade him and Collins like they did hart
CJ! | 4:00 p.m. July 25, 2008
I smell a trade in the works!
SoCalJazzFan | 4:01 p.m. July 25, 2008
The writing was on the wall with the trading of Hart to free up cap space. Now if we can just convince CJ to play hard. He should have a future at the 3, if he wants it.

Now I just have to wonder if Korver is on his way somewhere else. He is a great shooter, but doesn't have the upside of CJ.
Brad | 4:03 p.m. July 25, 2008
I am glad to hear it. Miles could really break out at some point. I think we would regret it if we let him go. He is still so young, and if he steps up defensively he could be an awesome player.
Why? | 4:01 p.m. July 25, 2008
That's a lot of money to drop on a 3rd string 2 guard. Plus there's a precedent for overpaying players established by this move. When Millsap's contract comes up, he's going to point to this deal as the reason why the Jazz need to pay him $25M+. This will have ramifications for years to come.

Boooooo, KOC. You blew it this time.
Anonymous | 4:04 p.m. July 25, 2008
Can you spell - trade?
I don't like it | 4:02 p.m. July 25, 2008
What message does this send to Morris Almond? We're already too crowded at the 2 and this signing was just based on potential. Bad move by the Jazz.
BigPoet | 4:02 p.m. July 25, 2008
I am from the Portland, Oregon area... former home of C.J. Miles. Miles has had his good moments, but they've been only moments. The Jazz just flushed $15 million down the toilet. What Miles lacks in durability he more than makes up for with his poor attitude. Give it a little time... you'll see I'm right.
BigPoet | 4:07 p.m. July 25, 2008
Woah... could I have the wrong Miles? If so, sorry about that Miles.
Jimmy' Sneakers | 4:07 p.m. July 25, 2008
Jimmy thinks KOC is crazy. First he trades Jason Hart and then he matches this offer. Jimmy thinks that he is crazy. Jimmy thougt that Hart had heart.
CJ | 4:06 p.m. July 25, 2008
I like the move. If I were the jazz i'd be trying to trade harpring, before next year, for an expiring contract-hopefully a big guy. some other pieces i'd be willing to part with, brewer-and hopefully they can find a taker for collins. it would be nice to keep brewer around, but anyone taking harpring will probably want brewer as well.
or, turn around and trade cj.
but i like the move, if worse comes to worse, you go into the offseason with a few guys you need to resign, and a few guys you can let go.
but i think cj is a guy you want to keep around.
good move.
Pete | 4:09 p.m. July 25, 2008
CJ better be a sign and trade. When he has played he has been very streaky and not worth the effort. He doesnt take the game seriously, and doesnt work hard to win like his other team mates. We want a championship and CJ is to soft to give us one.
Yeah!!! | 4:08 p.m. July 25, 2008
TRUSS IN C.J.!!! Great move by the Jazz!!!! Were on a roll Jimmy!!! Oka 4 4 A.K. 47 is next!!! You gotta love it baby!!!!! YEAH!!!!
Snagger | 4:09 p.m. July 25, 2008
Anyone want to say the Jazz don't know what they are doing? I've been all for this to happen for many reasons. I think something else is going to happen. More moves to come. CJ has talent and the Jazz obviously think he is part of the teams future. The Jazz can not trade CJ after signing him for at least a year so he will not be part of a trade this year. I'm stoked for CJ and I think you have to make time for him if the jazz are going to pay what they just did. CJ I'm looking forward to seeing you play a lot this upcoming season.
Snowman | 4:12 p.m. July 25, 2008
Miles is not worth 15 million. He is worth keeping around but not for that much when you have to pay boozer.
Dog | 4:09 p.m. July 25, 2008
Now let him play and prove his worth!
Wakesomething | 4:09 p.m. July 25, 2008
Did we forget about our salary cap issues? Seriously we have C.J., Morris, Kyle, Harpring, and about 5 other players who can play the position. Let CJ go and promote from within... can anyone say Morris Almond? Too late now, I hope we don't loose Okur, Boozer, or Korver next year because we don't have the money for them.

Actually what the Jazz are doing here is getting something in return for their three year investment in CJ Miles. He will be traded before February.

If the Jazz actually keep him, Jerry Sloan will have issues with CJ and will not play him like he should because he missed the RMR again. But like Deron said, CJ is going into his 4th year now and doesn't need to play in the RMR... He should have though just to make people happy.
Terrible! | 4:10 p.m. July 25, 2008
Are the Jazz out of their mind? That kid is worth a chicken nugget happy meal! You should have let the worthless bum sign with OKC!
NO! | 4:13 p.m. July 25, 2008
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
NY Jazzfan | 4:11 p.m. July 25, 2008
Great decision...CJ will be more mature and confident. His contributions will be the best yet. Now, get to camp Miles!!!
Azucar | 4:14 p.m. July 25, 2008
Why would the Jazz do this? Sloan abviously holds grudges against rookies and guys who skip workouts. Between Brewer, Korver, and Almond the Jazz have plenty of two guards and in Sloan's system Miles is sure to get little to no playing time. I hope the Jazz have a plan for him because that's a lot of money to be paying a bench-warmer.
Matt | 4:16 p.m. July 25, 2008
Sweet! I was getting worried for a little while there. I'm glad he'll be back!

I also hope that Oklahoma's signing him helps everyone in Salt Lake realize why he didn't participate in the Rocky Mountain Review. I got tired of hearing that excuse all year last year... the truth is, he plays great ball!
We love you CJ | 4:14 p.m. July 25, 2008
I'm glad Utah has matched Oklahoma's offer. You have a lot of work to do but I think you can be a contributor to a championship team.
I don't get it | 4:14 p.m. July 25, 2008
What the hell Jazz? Why? He's not worth that much and how are you supposed to keep all the key players when their contracts come up next year? Are we turning into Atlanta, Minnesota, or Milwaukee and are going to start overplaying bench roleplayers? Maybe we can sign Theo Ratliff for 12 mil a year next. Ridiculous.
JAZZ FAN 3790 | 4:16 p.m. July 25, 2008
Phew!! I was afraid this was the end of CJ
with the jazz I am glad he will continue to deveop here with the jazz and not in OKC.
specs260 | 4:19 p.m. July 25, 2008
I find this move very interesting. I don't mind having Miles here in Utah, after all the Jazz have spent the last few years investing in him. They might as well see a return. My question is what are they going to do with all of the depth at this position. I'm affraid that Almond won't get any time to develop in the NBA this year again. This bothers me because I think he could be quite the asset with his athleticism.
CBU | 4:19 p.m. July 25, 2008
I thought CJ just turned 20!!
Trade time | 4:19 p.m. July 25, 2008
With 15 under contract, I assume the Jazz are looking at or have a trade in place to get some help in the middle...
Good move, but..... | 4:20 p.m. July 25, 2008
I sure hope this is just another piece to a bigger move. With that much money going to a seldom used player, they had best be making a move to get a defensive big man.....
