I can see Koufos as Memo's backup (because he can shoot the trey) and Fez
as Collins' replacement, because in time he should be better as a blocker
and scorer, where Collins is only good for taking charges and being tall.
Let's hope these two bigs can figure it out soon enough to keep them around.

What the heck. Another thought.
Who's Boozer's backup? We don't really have one. Can you imagine how hard it would be to score inside on the Jazz if their front three were all 6'10" or taller? And all able to block shots? Could happen if these two young players pan out.

Who came up with this starting line up?, I thought the twin tower approach
didn't work very well especially when San Antonio put a track team on the
floor. Kufos got fouls trying to defend small forwards. In defense of Kufos,
what good is it to have post players if the point guards can't feed them
the ball. They kept having to come out to get the ball. I thought San
Antonio's Hill and Green locked down the Jazz's guards. Hill looked
like an Alvin Iverson.
What is this thing we have with foreign players? If these kids were from the U.S. you would see them playing at your local junior college but since they are from some exotic place they suddenly have mystical basketball powers and become NBA players.

Koufos isnt foreign, he was born and raised in Ohio.
The reason we lost so bad last night was because the team match ups were very different. It looks like SA is more focused on point guard/shooting guards than bigs. Can't blame em, they dont need to replace duncan or oberto. Thats why our bigs had such a rough night was because they were being matched up with much smaller/faster forwards, hence the foul trouble.
Fes was terrible last night. I agree with purple, it was good they came out playing so poorly so that they can show how they rebound from a game like that. I think koufos will do better tonight, his main problem was foul trouble. Other than that, he didn't have that bad of a game. Fes on the other hand, it's a toss up. I guess he'll do better at least a little bit because he can only go up from last night's performance. He was terrible last night, looked like he'd never played basketball before.

good advice from dwill to kk. i remember a guy who dropped in the draft named
the mailman. when the mailman came into the league, all he could do was
rebound, play aggressive defense, he couldn't score three feet from the
basket or shoot a free throw, but the mailman did what he could, and doing the
little things was the foundation of his hall of fame career, he never stopped
doing the little things. who would've thought he would be the greatest
power foward to ever play and the second leading scorer of all time.
i remember in the mailman's retirement conference, he talked about his work ethic, how he learned it from his mom, he said his work ethic was what made his career one of the best ever.
it's nice to hear kk talking about work, it's the one thing a player, or anyone has the most control over, there's little excuse for not giving maximum effort and perfecting the little things, you can't blame someone who has given everything they have.
it's a simple lesson, but it's not an easy one.
i like fez's game, i'd love to see him dedicate to a work ethic.

don't forget san antonio has already played in one summer league which
might be why the game was the way it was more than anything else. i can't
stand san antonio, they probably got a gem in the hill kid, he plays the game
easily.
i don't care if it's the revue, i want the jazz to smash the spurs, embarass them, crush them, send them home with their tails tucked between their legs, take their pride and eat it, have their preseason hearts for lunch, erase every record of them as a team, make them wish that utah was a place in their imagination and not some hellish reality where they come to get their basketball skills turned inside out and handed to them broken down, flat, and on paper plates.

Since the players can have 8 fouls in the summer league while playing just40
minutes why the short leash on Kufos and Fez. Let them play.

For the first game having never played together before I guess the Jazz were ok. I am disappointed that Almonds game was so off. Even he and Kruger were not on the same page.
I would agree lets see what they do tonight. Maybe the Jazz should send a group to the Las Vegas Program and be more ready for their own review when it takes place.

How can you get a good read on fes or koufos if corbin is pulling them off the
floor with two fouls. there was alot of eratic play from everyone out there.
terrible passes causing turnovers, and jumpy refs. so why are the coaches
limiting the big guys playing time in a summer game. let the guys have a chance
to get in a groove at least.

Did anyone watch that game???? Koufos, Fes and Almond stunk it up. None of
these three are anywhere near the caliber of the Jazz regulars, Everybody is
looking for a quick fix just develop what we have, thats what good coaching
staffs do

IN another a story a commenter claimed sloan built deron willimas.
Why can't sloan build other great players.
Or does that only work with top 5 draft picks who expected to be great anyways.
So me some great coaching, sloan, and develop these youngsters!

Koufos had 12 points, 10 boards and a block tonight. However, he did it playing
PF, a position he normally does not play. Further, he has never played with
these guys before and does not know the plays yet. Fess and Almond spent a year
playing together.
One of the KFNZ announcers was not impressed with Kouf's game but he seemed surprised when he read the stats. Kouf's shooting percentage will come along as he learns the plays, the PF position and adjusts to the game and players. Give him 1/2 a year or at least a couple of weeks.
Almond showed promise in more dimensions than in just shooting. Fess went 9, 9 with a bunch of blocks. With some work Fess could be as good as Mutumbo as a shot blocker. I think Fess will get his act together. He has a shot at being very good if he wants it bad enough.
The Jazz seem to be taking a very serious look at Fess at Center with Kouf at PF. If Kouf can play second team PF it will make a big difference in the long run.

Sloan has built Memo. He has built Deron. He does great with players who have no
other agenda and are willing to learn. Fess and Kouf have a long, long ways to
go. If they are willing to scarifice and focus Sloan will make them better.

Do you Sloan haters even know what it takes to win in the NBA? It takes skill,
teamwork, and sacrifice. The Jazz have lots of skill. They even play well
together as a team. But the thing that holds them back from winning is guys who
aren't willing to sacrifice EVERYTHING to win. Maybe these young players
with egos need to conform to Sloan rather than Sloan conform to them. These
guys need to learn from their all-star teammates just what it means to sacrifice
for the betterment of their team.

Sloan's credibility won't come to surface until CJ Miles turns out to
be a fantastic player once he gets to play more than a few mins per game with
the Supersonics.
