It is good to see Robert Johnson with his helmet back...after Harvy Unga knocked it off while going into touchdown last year.

Man what a great idea...switching uniforms to inspire a team. Where could Witt have possibly come up with something like that. You may wonder why he did not give a return to tradition speech. Well that is because Utah does not have a tradition, they have a year. 1 year. 1 year. 1 year. But hey that sea of red did look good in the Fiesta Bowl, that 1 year, 1 year, 1 year, 1 year.

PS Alex and Urban have moved on..Have you?

1 year, 1year, 1 year, 1 year, 1 year...
Re: GSM | 1:28 p.m. July 18, 2008
Probably got it from the same place that BronKo did: URBAN MEYER and the UNIVERSITY OF UTAH! That's right, Urban changed the Utes Helmets and what was the first thing BronKo did?

As for one year: I guess these past two years were just so-so for byU? 11-2 and 11-2 is not as good as 10-2 and 12-0. Plus, Utah has more bowl appearances and more bowl VICTORIES over the last 15 years than byU does. Looks like the Utes are right there with byU in the tradition department.

Yes, the Utah president and head football coach are BYU grads, but they came to the U to begin the repentance process BY THEIR OWN CHOICE!

Not quite the same circumstance as your current president, who is a Utah Man, and only went there because he was ASSIGNED by Pres. Hinckley (oh, another standout Utah alum, by the way...)

The University of Utah, aka School of the Prophets!
GO UTES!!
2006 - 2007 | 8:23 p.m. July 18, 2008
Man, all of the stats out there.

Easy, look at head to head:

2006 = BYU - W Utah - L
2007 = BYU - W Utah - L

Common opponents both years:

Mountain West Conference

2006 = BYU - Conference Champs
2007 = BYU - Conference Champs

Is it really that hard to figure out in head-to head comparisons (not the 7 degrees of circular reasoning and logic used by Ute fans) who has bragging rights, and who needs to bring game in November? Why play for "bragging rights"? Why even play the game?

Oh, and can anybody tell me the significance of spelling Bronco "BronKo"? And how is 11-2 not as good as 10-2?

I understand why Kyle went to coach at Utah. He was taking over "Urbans Team", and look how well he's done. Kyld did not want to "rebuild".

Bronco did a fine job rebuilding, and BYU is "blessed" Kyle made the choice he did. Otherwise I think BYU would be 0-3 against Utah over the past three years.
Selective reading? | 9:21 p.m. July 18, 2008
It was 11-2 and 11-2 compared to 10-2 AND 12-0. One is better than the other, I will let you figure it out.

Common opponent: UCLA 27 BYU 17
---------------- UCLA 16 BYU 17
---------------- UCLA 6 UTAH 44

BronKo and the kewgs will fall flat on their faces this year. "Quest for Perfection"???? It's going to be a short quest considering they are going to lose to Washington and UCLA in September.
re: 2006-2007 | 9:45 p.m. July 18, 2008
New Uniforms.

Nuff said.
re:Selective reading? Reasoning? | 10:30 p.m. July 18, 2008
I agree it was selective. However, I will quote you because it was senseless, and I know it's out of context, but "11-2 is not as good as 10-2"-- How? And you are picking different years, how can you say an 11-2 year is not as good as a 10-2 year in different years???

And you pick "one" common opponent, UCLA. BYU played with PAC-10 refs at the Rose Bowl, Utah played at home, and neglect to mention the last team to beat UCLA that year on a nuetral field...

Look at the past two years head to head--and not cherry pick one opponent for 2 of the 3 games against-UCLA that year, but the league for two straight years.

It the same old 7 degrees of circular reasoning and logic used by Ute fans.

And please try to answer the questions...

Who has bragging rights, and who needs to bring game in November? Why play for "bragging rights" if you lose and blow it off? Why even play the game?

Serious, you choose the games after the season, and you choose the season you want to compare after they're over.

Circular reasoning and logic used by Ute fans.

Sad.
Re: 2006 - 2007 | 10:44 p.m. July 18, 2008
"...can anybody tell me the significance of spelling Bronco 'BronKo'"?

Bronco, spelled "BronKo", is an allegorical play on phonetics. The "Ko" is representative of a pugilistic term for "Knock Out". It started popping up on both the Salt Lake Tribune and the Deseret News comment threads shortly after, and likely retaliatory to, "K-Whitt", which was likely coined by some TDS fan who fancies himself witty.

Perhaps the Ute fan who initiated "BronKo" should have attempted something a little less cerebral, like maybe "Mr. Dumbhead", or "Coach Poopy-Pants", to keep the insults from flying over the heads of those ridiculous and unenlightened fans for the TDS.

GO UTES!!!
TicketHolder | 8:18 a.m. July 19, 2008
What is so bad for either team is that you play in the Mountain West Conference. By far one of the weakest conferences in college football. When the president of DirecTV says "he would rather show reruns of "Everybody Loves Raymond before he would pick up the Mountain because of viewership statistics" is something you don't want to hear. If either team played in the Pac 10, Big 12, Big 10, ACC, or SEC you wouldn't be bowl eligible.
BronKo | 9:25 a.m. July 19, 2008
When I first started using this spelling, I had no idea it would catch on with other Ute fans and rile up byU fans so much. It actually has NOTHING to do with a knock-out.

Like any inside joke, it is best to leave those on the outside guessing as to what it means. Have fun trying to figure it out zoobies.

BronKo - Hahahahahahahahahahaha

BronKo | 10:31 a.m. July 19, 2008
So, even Utes are confused why???

KO, I like that. Like the way he knocks the Utes out at the games...

Cool...

who's had an undefeated season followed by a berth in a national bowl? yeah..not byu.
un-American | 2:06 p.m. July 19, 2008
The hypocrisy of the DesNews is their penchant for promoting conservative values and personal freedoms while simultaneously censoring unpopular opinions from some of its patrons.

And just 2 wks past the day we celebrated our independence.

Shame!
RE 1:52 | 12:42 p.m. July 20, 2008
I would guess all televised games nationally are national bowls.

I do remember that BYU payed in a bowl game for a National Championship.
re:re:2006-2007 | 2:05 p.m. July 20, 2008
We'll that sure helpe out. I wouldn't think it riles up anyone, more it just makes them think Ute fans are either weak on the keyboard, wannabe "spys" trying to send encrypted messages, or just a tad bit "special". (ps I have emmbedded a secret slam at you Ute fans in this message, and if you get it, you win back one used brain cell).

"Perhaps the Ute fan who initiated "BronKo" should have attempted something a little less cerebral"

And then you answer it wrong. Are you not as cerebral as BronKo?

"Ko" like "Knocking teams out" is really "cerebral"... Moronic is more like it.

"Like any inside joke, it is best to leave those on the outside guessing as to what it means. Have fun trying to figure it out zoobies."

You don't know, do you.

I have a buddy whose son is in Junior High, and I guees the big fad there is to capitalize a letter somewher in the middle of the word.

I would bet you are not only the most "cereBral" but funnist moron in your 8th grade class.

I wrote Re: 2006 - 2007 | 10:44 p.m.

I responded to "BronKo | 10:31 a.m.", TWICE, to enlighten cougar fans about "BronKo | 9:25" (who was NOT the originator of that spelling), but each time was censored by the DesNews (thus "un-American | 2:06 p.m."). What I had to say contained no profanities, was not off topic, nor misrepresentative (which is more than I can say for "BronKo | 9:25"). Nevertheless, it exposed TDS fans in a way the rabidly and overzealous editors deemed arbitrarily offensive.

It would appear said editors would prefer to leave all our fellow readers in ignorance as to preserve those smug TDS readers fragile sensibilities. This would never happen at the other newspaper.
I like the New Jersies | 4:21 p.m. July 20, 2008
I hear they put a new extra grass stain repellant on the Defensive teams backs to hide all the stains when Frank the Tank and Unga knock them on their buttz.

BYU did.

What you should have said was:

"Who's had an undefeated season followed by a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP, TROPHY, RINGS AND ALL THE BELLS AND WHISTLES THAT COME WITH A NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP? yeah...BYU... not the university of yooterville."

No matter how you spin it, until you poor little bros to the North realize it in your walnut sized brains, IT HAPPENED.

Now just deal with it, and stop worrying about getting past UNLV with a point. I'm waiting for my fries out here.

isnt the game in salt lake this year? last i heard they dont have real grass.
Anonymous | 8:52 a.m. July 21, 2008
Like the new jerseys. However the white ones will be covered in red the first week of the season, when Michagan throttles and absolutley destroy the yewts in the Big House.
to:Re: The Past | 11:05 a.m | 12:22 p.m. July 21, 2008
Not real grass.

Is it oregano, like up at the dorms?

Makes sense, not a real football program.

The fake grass will be good.

I was just thinking of the laundry bills when Unga rips through the "Red Zone" at the end of the game.

Maybe your post was stupid and they didn't want to embarass you.

Maybe they did you a faver.

Either way, BronKo is sort of middle school smack, don't you think?

Really, as an adult?

WHY IS IT THAT THE YEWTS HAD ONLY ONE TOP 5 FINISH IN THERE HISTORY BUT YET YOU TALK TO THE YEWT FANS AND IF YOU DID NOT KNOW ANY BETTER YOU WOULD THINK THAT THE YEWTS FINISH IN THE TOP 5 EVERY YEAR PLUS HAVE ABOUT 4 NATIONAL TITLES!!!!

I came on to read an article and see what others thought. not to have to filter through a bunch of losers comments who are trying to make a conection between the utes having new uniforms and how that will affect their play. It wont ok so shut up crawl back into you cave and STAY THERE!! as to the uniforms i think it will be nice to have something new for our boys
some people | 7:47 p.m. July 23, 2008
I agree with "ute" you people need to chill. And Anonymous(2 or 3 up)have you ever talked to a zoobie fan. By the way you guys talk its like you think your #1 in the nation. ok and beside what does that have to do with the utes getting Under Armour? any way I dont think the new dud will help or hinder our guys but its still nice. Oh yah and to all you BYU freaks go back to your rooms in your parents basements and go see if you can take the first step to becoming a grown up by throwing out your night light I promise the cougars wont eat you in the dark but think of it this way if you get scared you can go run up so mommy.
UTMAN | 2:22 p.m. July 24, 2008

Ok one last time | 10:59 p.m. July 24, 2008
this is your brain
"go utes"

this is your brain on drugs
"Byu is cool"

any questions?
utes fan | 11:13 p.m. July 24, 2008
here let us explain this one more time. and this time we will use small words so that you will be able to understand. The University of Utah is an amazing school with fantastic athletes attending it. Unlike BYU who is more about trying to talk the talk. Now to end tell bronco that he needs a bigger shirt to fit his ego.
another day another zoobie | 11:11 p.m. July 25, 2008
ok this is to "GSM" and to everyone who is stupid enough to listen to him. We haven't had that one year or that one player (alex) just think of the year before the feista bowl. I belive we were 10-2. Hey thats as close as BYU as ever gotten to going undefeated. Oh and we have also had STEVE SMITH. He went pro playing for Carolina i think. So take your words and shuv em! GO UTES! the cougars are for lames and dipwads
bleedkentuckyblue | 11:34 p.m. July 25, 2008
another zoobie:

quick! hide! your Yewt education is showing again? 10-2 is the closest BYU has gotten? what about undefeated 1984? 14-1 in '96? Think about the '80s? Your 2004 glory year is a flash in the pan, and now your jerseys are as ugly as your football history!
you're flaunting Steve Smith, and that's great, but he's never won a Super Bowl: Steve Young and Jim McMahon have. BYU has more players in the NFL out of any team in the west EXCEPT USC.

Good luck beating USU and Weber. Wyoming is going to be a shellacking, and you'll get hammered by TCU and UNLV... again. Utah football... where class never happens!
how about this | 12:17 a.m. July 26, 2008
i am going to be perfectly honest I am not a ute or a cougar but it is so funny to read your smack talk you all sound like 4 year olds hahahahahahahaha!!!!!
U'nanimous | 12:23 a.m. July 26, 2008
It's interesting to note the fact that the school down south, and the Church by whom it's owned, are lead by UTES! President Cecil B. Samuelsen and President Thomas S. Monson (and while we're at it, let's not forget the late and well respected President Gordon B. Hinckley...etc.) How many years of dominance do these men account for in "restoring order?" Finally, the oldest University west of the Mississppi isn't in Provo...Remember where you came from Cougar faithful...Your most respected leaders wear RED!
how to say this nicely | 1:04 a.m. July 26, 2008
all cougars listen up. I used to have the smallest bit of respect for you people. used to. I see you guys running around long after the season is over and you people are still using stuff from the 80's to smack talk. thats weak. And I hate to say it but utes seriosly dont sink to their level you can smack talk them in person just make sure you take a stopwatch. it takes them a while to make up a come back. believe me. i have experience.
hey listen | 7:57 p.m. July 26, 2008
:bleedkentuckyblue

why bould we think of the 80's (and no I am not saying this becasue you guys did well then. I am saying it because we are in the year 2008) dude join us in this day and age.

oh and as for anotherday another zobbie loved you name, but next time back up smack with facts.
