Let's just say Greg is NOT Larry. He's a lightweight that has
everything given to him. But it's Larry's right to pass on the
company to whomeer he wants. Greg and Gov. Huntsman have something in
common.....no college degree but great DNA.

Larry Miller doesn't have a college degree...and look what he has done. I
don't think Larry would turn his life work over to someone whom he had any
reservations about. Larry would and could hire the best. And I believe his son
is the best. Larry didn't get to be where he is by making bad decisions.

I hope all the LHM employees recognize NEPOTISM when they see it, understand
they have NO chance of rising to the upper echelons within this company without
possessing the requisite genetic code, and move on to a more rewarding career
path. Greg will not be able to command the respect his father earned.

Knowing that the complications of diabetes often include loss of a limb, I hope
and pray that is not what has happened to Larry. It would be nice if the
reporter of this story had asked for the specifics of his condition. The Miller
family are wonderful people who have brought so much that is good to our state.
We hope and pray that all will be well for them.

What's wrong with a father turning over his hard-earned empire to a son?
You think he'd pick someone unrelated to give it to? Whether or not Greg is
the most capable to run the place, a father loves his kids more than anyone else
and when it's time to hand off his life's accumulations, he isn't
going to just hand them off to anybody. Give the guy a chance.

Nepotism, schmepotism, what a joke that comment was. It is his business, he
owns it privately, he can do what he wants...and I know several who work for
Larry's groups (1 at the Jazz, 2 or 3 with car dealerships, and 1 at the
megaplex) and they all tell me they truly enjoy their jobs.
I imagine if someone has aspirations to be CEO of a corporation, they will only work for the Miller group long enough to gain the experience necessary to take a higher role somewhere else. By the way, that is how most become CEOs...not by working your way up from janitor, but by moving around, gaining experience, and moving up from a VP or director somewhere.

Ya, who wants to work for a company that pays many of its key (non family) employees a very good wage. (Lots more I'm sure than Billy makes.) If you won't work for a company that you can't become president of some day then you'll most likely be unemployed most of your life.

Completely agree with Chad.
Greg has probably been taught and groomed for this position for a long time. He's as adept and able to run the LHM group as anyone is.

Billy Madison, Interesting comment. People start "family" business to
pass them on to "family". Any of their employees can go out raise the
money, take the risk, enjoy the rewards and pass it on to their kids. It was
nice of you to know how they should spend their money and run their company.

Larry Miller has the right to turn his business over to anyone he wants...the
choice of his son is expected. HOWEVER, it is OUR right not ascribe great
accumen or respect to his son, until he does something ON HIS OWN to deserve it.
I have found, in my own experience, that second generation rich are usually
worthless people. Now maybe I'm wrong here, I'll give Jr. the benefit
of the doubt.

A college simply means that one has passed an exam concerning something studied.
It does not make a person any smarter. Larry Miller has made it big and
successful through his enterprising personality not by having a college degree.
I have seen many who possess a college degree unable to make it in the working
world because they did not have enough drive. A college degree never put anyone
in the White House, only drive and votes.

Anyone who goes to work for that company should recognize that most likely the top job(s) will go to family members. Larry Miller has every right to name anyone as the CEO and it should not be a surprise, especially to the employees of the Miller Companies. Sadly our country is driven more by GIVE ME the American dream than earning the American dream. You want to be the CEO, go work for a publicly traded company. You want to own your own company, go start one. I grow tired of people who suggest that deserve something because they simply take up space. Is it just me or does Greg look like a police blotter picture with a coat and
tie added? All that's missing is the little ruler that documents

I know Greg and he is a really good guy. However, he does not love the Jazz like

Most highly successful CEOs moved up through the ranks of their corporation and
were handed the reigns when they felt unqualified for the top position. They
then took the company to unprecedented levels with their humility.
Don't know anything about Greg Miller, but he has just as much chance to grow the Miller group as anyone, probably more so with a vested interest in the company he's worked for his whole life.

Not sure where you received your college degree, but I was taught in college
(actually I was taught this basic writing skill in elementary, but college
sounded better) to do a little research and always have a source before I made
a factual comment or quote. Gov. Jon Hunstman Jr. does have a BA degree from the
University of Penn, a prestigious ivy league school.

That comment surely made me laugh here. If I work my butt off and accumulate
some good $$$, I should pass it to some strange over there instead of my own
son? Unless the kid is clearly unfit for the position which it looks like
it's not the case. Even Paris Hilton with all that bad propaganda has been
able to make a fortune by herself, now have we heard anything wrong about Greg
Miller other than working under the shadow of his father?

I'm not sure where Wassup gets his information. Govenor Huntsman has a
bachelor's degree from the Univeristy of Pennsylvania--I think that it was
in finance from the top-ranked Wharton School Of Business.

Love that Larry Miller started his son at the young age of 12 doing manual labor
-- more parents should teach their children the value of work. They appreciate
and value what they have to work for and there's great personal
satisfaction in ANY job well done, whether it's managing a huge company or

To Billy Madison: My goodness you have a very suspecting and negative attitude
about the human race. Do not stand in judgement for someone you do not
personally know. How would you like it if someone prejudged you before you were
even given a chance to prove yourself? You wouldn't like it. Noone would.
Greg came from good stock and I wouldn't be too quick to say he will not be
good as a CEO. Give him time, you may be eating your words and they never taste
very good. Jealousy and envy is a dangerous thing if feed constantly.

I actually think Greg taking over is one of the best things Larry has done. He
has more insite in his company. Also as far as people working at Larry H Miller
are going no where in the company, It's actually one of the most friendly,
and best places to work. He pays his employees well too.

The first comment says that Gov Huntsman does not have a college degree? Last I
checked he had a degree from Penn, which is in the Ivy League and I can
guarantee that Greg Miller has a college degree as well considering how much
money LHM gives to local colleges.

I would like think that the bigger picture here is that a man who brought us so
much is having health problems - Best of luck to him.... As for Greg running
things - I come from a family created empire and there are no major decisions
that made alone and I am sure it would be a family effort in every decision that
needs to me made!

I agree with you whole heartedly! I can't believe what a bunch of victims
people are. According to some of the posts, apparently Larry Miller is evil
because he has a lot of money. The majority of you people who make comments like
that sit and wonder why you are in the condition that you are in! Our society
has become victims who hold out their hands thinking that the government should
take care of them. That the government owes you something or people like Larry
Miller who is an amazing story by the way is evil because he has material

It was stated in the article that the family would all be in charge of the big
decisions. Why would anyone think that Larry needs to even consider giving his
wealth to anyone other than his own family? Why in the world do you suppose he
worked so hard in the first place if it wasn't to provide for his own? I
offer my thanks to him and his family for all they have done for so many of us
'non family' people. I wish Larry the very best and hope he soon
regains his health and is able to go about the things that bring him happiness.

I swear sometimes people in this state, while they try to promote themselves as pro-capitalist really appear more like socialists - always worried about everybody being equal and equal opportunities.

The last thing Larry cares about is some idiots opinion on who he should leave
his company to. I not only have a college degree, I just reieved my doctoral
degree. I have no doubt Greg Miller knows alot more about his dad's
business than I ever will, degree or not. Larry has every right to choose his

Over 90% of family oriented succession plans end up a disaster. Ford Motor
Company is the most recent classic example. Hunstman is another prime example.
Within a couple of years or sooner, reserves will run low and assets will be
spun-off. This marks the beginning of the end for LHM enterprises.

Everyone is basing their comments on their own experiences, so there is no right
and wrong at this point, we have to watch this guy then judge him by his
actions. Second generation wealth has caused huge problem among my circle of
friends where I live. In a certain 'burb of Sacramento initials EDH.
Example J washed dishes and worked construction to pay for his education, got
involved in a sporting goods startup which he now owns with over 100 stores and
very profitable. He and his wife's approach to raising kids has been to
save them from all the challenges in life, the kids have never had to be
responsible for their actions. Of 5 kids, 4 are married living in the family
mansion, pool house, or in investment properties. One finished high school, the
others dropped out, and all 5 "work" for their dad. That means never
having a yearly assessment, or getting the salary comparable workers get but
much more, being able to miss work to do whatever, or not showing up at all.
Sadly J's family isn't the exception. Some parents feel guilty being
wealthy as such they "save" the kids from challenges.

I have always admired Larry Miller, I felt that he is a man of compassion, even
to the point that years ago I wrote to him asking for help with a Van with a
lift for my dying husband. No, I didn't get a reply, I was not offended,
but I saw in him an approachable aura. I do hope that Larry will get better,
enjoy this time with his wife, this is their time now. He is still going to be
around, but I am sure his son will do just fine, and he may make some poor
choices, but isn't that how we learn and grow?

When we first moved from Alaska we leased a home in Pepperwood. This was arranged for us and we had no idea where this place was, or who the people who lived there were. When I need some help moving some stuff around some neighbors came by to give us a hand. Turns out Greg Miller (I had no idea who Larry Miller was), Todd England (England Trucking), Judge Mike Hutchings, and The Rodes Rolls family (can't remember their names) dropped by to lend a hand. I got to know Greg in Church, and as the manager of Stockton to Malone Honda. Greg was always a hard worker and never dropped his dad's name or the Jazz. The Miller empire will be in good hands.

Really, larry worked to the point of not being there for all his children, when
they were going up.Greg,Roger,steve,Bryan, and karen. It is there's and if
