As if we needed more evidence that DesNews theatre coverage has lost interest in Utah theatre, we now see a focus on actual Broadway productions. There are an infinite number of places to go for this, and we don't need another.

The Deseret Morning News USED to be the one place we could find actual coverage of non-equity theatre in Utah. I am so quickly running out of reasons not to jusat switch completely to the Salt Lake Tribune . . .

Agreed, Cranston, and the only thing worse than a noisy snacker is a noisy person shushing them!

Cranston, if you only read the Sunday column about Broadway, that's all you will get out of the D News theater coverage.

There are plenty of local theaters covered and reviewed throughout the week. Why you continually "open your mouth and remove all doubt" -as Mark Twain once put it - about the theater coverage, look around and pay attention.

I read the paper. Those reviews are and notices are still there, but they do not contain as much information as they used to. In the old days, a press release about a play in Utah in the Tribune told us where it was being performed, the time, and how much it cost. The Deseret News gave us information about the cast, production staff, the play itself, etc. Now, the Deseret News press release is more or less the same as the Tribune one.

You're essentially arguing that looking at the cover of a book is the same as reading. Fine, the cover is still there, but the book isn't.

And, for the record, I have also praised the new coverage when I felt it deserved it, and called for people to give it another chance. But as I continue to read every story about local theatre in the Deseret News, I'm finding the information m ore cursoury.

Now, I'll be fair and admit that the coverage now is what is newspaper standard. I just preferred the old days when we got more detail.

I do apologize if my words were too harsh. It is clear to me that Ms. Hansen posses a great deal of knowledge about the theatrical arts, and as I have said multiple times before, her review of "Annie Get You Gun" at Hale was the finest piece of theatre critical writing I've read in a Utah publication. I'm simply asking for more details in notices about local shows. There are many of us out there who are fans of particular artists in the theatre community, and base which shows we want to see on who is involved. The DesNews has always been one of the best sources for that information. I would just miss getting that information. Her writing is good, and she clearly knows her stuff. I just asking for a return to more production info.

But, now I've said that more than enough, and I won't say it again.

You called the Chris Columbus version of "Rent" dismal? Ouch, a little dark yes, and they shouldn't have cut out "Goodbye Love" but other then that, I thought it was a great movie!!
