I dont answer the door to sales man anyway. If I need something I will go to the store and buy it.

It really makes you wonder why these women wont press charges. What if he ends up hurting someone?

wheels of justice are slow... | 1:38 p.m. July 10, 2008
We do wonder why no victim is willing to press charges. It just leaves this man free to go on assaulting more people.
I would suppose the TIME, the DEPOSITIONS, the many STATEMENTS, the PAPERWORK, answering to several ATTORNEYS and the years and years and years that these legal processes run is just more trouble than any of the victims would like to endure. The prosecution process is as much a headache and inconvenience for the victim, as was the nuisance of the original assault.

What product? | 1:43 p.m. July 10, 2008
Would it be so difficult for the media to tell people WHAT product it is these folks are selling, so that I can be aware of who to be more wary of taking the time to listen to? Are we too busy worrying about "protecting the reputation" of the COMPANY that is employing this criminal?
TELL THE PUBLIC what uniform/product this man is wearing/selling so that they can be on guard!

The article does not state whether the man is still employed by the company. It only says that the supervisor was made aware of the complaints by police. Why do you assume that he was not fired?

oh, come on now! | 4:37 p.m. July 10, 2008
What is all this whining because the story does not give the name of the company!? How many different companies have door-to-door salesmen knocking on your door? I haven't had a single one for at least 20 years! And then you narrow it down to one selling cleaning supplies. It is pretty easy to assume that anyone selling cleaning supplies door to door in the next few days is from that company. So, consider yourself forwarned, even if you don't know the name of the company. A little common sense helps.

The only salesmen I know of like that sell Advantage Cleanser. They hit my neighborhood two times a year and some are very nice and others yell in your face and swear at you if you don't buy their product. If you are anywhere in your yard they come right up to you and start cleaning everything in sight to convince you to buy. In all honesty, I do use and love their product but you can now buy it online and avoid the idiots.

I Believe.... | 6:12 p.m. July 10, 2008
The reson they don't want to press charges is because it may not have ever happened. Perhaps someone got angry because they are pushy sales people and reported a lie...... Is this possible?

It may be a lie and they don't want to get caught in it. Some ignorant people get offended by salespeople just because they're salespeople.

Scary | 6:28 p.m. July 10, 2008
I HATE door-to-door salesman and wish there would be some congressman who would come up with a law here in UT to make it illegal! I find them scary and harrassing. I do not answer my door when they know even if it is Winder Dairy! This is my stance: if I want something I will either go to the store and purchase it or research it online and decide what company to go with and contact them. I don't need someone coming to my house and bothering me with it. Furthermore, if a door-to-door salesman did ever touch me or yell in my face on my property I would press charges as a matter of principle. I'm not afraid!

They aren't going to release the name of the company! That would be ludicris to potentially ruin the reputation of a company for something that may or may not have happened. Especially if no charges are being pressed that makes me think that maybe nothing happened!

my two cents | 6:50 p.m. July 10, 2008
The cleaning sales people are ANNOYING, to say the least. One guy called me and everyone else in Utah racist, because we didn't buy his $20 cleaning spray. In Pleasant Grove, people need a solicitors license to go door-to-door (unless it's the girl scouts or school fundraiser type things). I always ask right off to see their license, which most don't have. The police are more than happy to respond and get them off the streets. If your cities don't have similar ordinances, it's worth pursuing.

No wonder.... | 8:32 p.m. July 10, 2008
we are a society of non trusting people because of wackoes like this. It is too bad that because of the stupidity of the few, legitimate salesmen are not trusted or liked anymore....

That's why I have a 'No Soliciting' sign by my door. Solves all my problems with door-to-door salesmen.

The "no Soliciting" sign didn't work for me; two different salesmen who came to my door said they didn't know what that term meant--go figure! One said, "I'm not soliciting, I'm just trying to see if you're interested in buying my product.

Common Sense | 7:28 a.m. July 11, 2008
Why in the world would anyone let a "salesman" into their home in this day and age?

You have to be mental to let a complete stranger into your home. Use your head ladies and gentlemen!

The Few | 7:31 a.m. July 11, 2008
The few always make it bad for the many.

Like teenagers a few decades back, not many were juvenile delinquents or druggy hippies, but the media and the masses labeled them all.

Our family has had some wonderful new ideas, products, and services come to us in unsolicited mail and email, over the phone, and to our door.

There are good and legitimate companies with honest, courteous (thrifty, clean, brave and reverent) :) salespeople whom we would welcome.

Let's not lynch 'em.

One of the best assets Utah has at its disposal are the people. Most are kind and courteous and will go out of their way to help someone in need, even salesmen. Unfortunately, in this day and age, their is a danger potential. I grew up in Brooklyn, where the salesmen were more afraid to knock on someones door than the resident was to answer it. Doors have locks, 911 is readily available and people have guns. Salesmen beware, and don't come to my house.

I just had an Advantage Cleanser salesman at my door. I couldn't get a word in edgewise, but he was more than polite enough, no issue there- at first. When I pushed that I was not interested and he kept pushing for my information for the sales receipt and I kept up about how I was not interested today, but thank you, he then performed some sales techniques that I found very unethical and then he became quite angry and rude when I became insistent that the sale was not going to happen.
I too, live in a no soliciting neighborhood. I'm not sure how surprised a salesman should be when this type of response is what you are receiving in a no-solicitation neighborhood.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
