Pain relief urged for ICU newborns

Babies do feel pain | 8:41 a.m. July 2, 2008
I can remember being told that babies don't feel pain very much when one of my sons was being circumsised. I insisted on being with him and, believe me--they feel pain! It's a barbaric procedure and I refused to have it done on my younger boys! Maybe they give them something for pain now, but ANY parent should be with a baby when this is done. The hospitals don't want to bother with parents, but in the interests of the child--INSIST! I insisted in being in the recovery room when four of my kids had tonsils removed and stopped the nurses from forcing sodas on them in recovery--consequently, NONE of them had the vomiting that so often and painfully follows tonsil surgery. If we don't advocate for our children, who will?
