This is an unfortunate incident that likely could have been prevented. ATVs are built for one rider only. Carrying a passenger throws off the vehicle's center of gravity and makes it more likely to roll over. It also is more difficult for an operator - especially a young person - to control an ATV with an extra passenger. Parents - please consider the safety of your children when allowing them to operate ATVs. Take the time to have them get training and certification through the Department of Natural Resources' OHV education program. MAKE them wear helmets. Don't let them operate adult-size ATVs. A few hours of fun can lead to a lifetime of grief.

The young person was 18 years old. It is an unfortunate accident. My prayers go to my family in their loss.

I was camping ~ 3 blocks from the accident site and ended up being in the search party. I went up upstream from my campsite and was maybe another 100 feet where they found the body. It was an unsettling night for everyone.

No. Utah sees a major earthquake every 350 years. Last one? 350 years ago.
