I'm surprised that the Desert News failed to mention that she was the overall winner in this years Sterling Scholar competition, sponsored by the Desert News. Lindsey is truly an amazing young woman and a gifted concert pianist too. Good luck at Harvard, she'll have an amazing future. Too bad more young women don't follow her lead in developing overall talents, not just looks alone.

It probably isn't that difficult to research when mom was a contestant. How about a little elbow grease in reporting?

And Miss Teen USA Runner-Up, student body president, high school musical 3 dancer, varsity tennis and basketball, international piano prizes, etc, etc. One has to wonder how this strain on someone so young as affected her mentality and health. No offense to Lindsey, she's a sweet girl, and I went to school with her. But she doesn't need all this to be a great girl. It's not the resume of the person, but the person that counts.

And sweet. Too much success for some people to tolerate.

Congratulations Lindsey!

Wow, that photo really captures pretty much everything "Miss Congeniality" was making fun of.

yay,

You should remember that the story was written by the reporter, not Mrs. Brinton. Because of space constraints, the reporter only includes the items he feels are most significant and leaves everything else out. So you are wrong to say that Mrs. Brinton "made such a point of" anything. Your disappointment should be directed toward the reporter.

Haha! The competition was begun in 1957. Good try! Congratulations to this beautiful and accomplished young woman. What an outstanding role model for young women across America. Thank you to the Deseret News for covering such an uplifting, positive story. And $54,000 in scholarship money is nothing to sneeze at!

Congrats Lindsey! And for $54,000, it worked for the best being first runner-up at Outstanding Teen earlier this year. I wonder why they didn't list her mom's competition year here, she mentioned it was 1969 in an Alabama newspaper.

Congrats Lindsey!! She is a very well-rounded young woman, and I appreciate the example she sets for her peers. She is very goal-oriented, and will accomplish much as America's Junior Miss, and also throughout her lifetime. She's also great with kids... just ask my little daughter Brittany!! She loves her and looks up to her.

Way to go Lindsey!!
