Millsap deserves more than that... he does his job every game and delivers contribution on both sides of the court..... if he had more minutes, i'm convinced he would lead the jazz in both rebounds and blocked shots, probaly steals too.. Jazz low balling bigtime...

Milsap should get as much as Booz. I don't care what the experts say, he should be a starter and would be an all star! What he may lack in height at PF he makes up for with heart!
Just Me | 7:28 p.m. June 28, 2008
Millsap is probably my favorite Jazz player right now. He has the heart now he needs more time playing and putting up the numbers he is capable of doing. I think all athletes get paid way too much but good luck to Millsap.

It's the option on his 2nd round pick contract (aka: minimum). They couldn't offer him anything else if they wanted to.

I'm in my sixties now. I've seen all of the great players come and go except George Mikan. The Jazz will never win an NBA championship with Carlos Boozer in the lineup. Paul Millsap has got the physical and mental toughness that Boozer will never have. Millsap will be here contributing and competing long after Boozer has been forgotten.

Nuh-uh. There aren't any rules for second-round picks, the scale is for first-rounders only.

Apparently, instead of offering him an extension, they decided to let him play this contract out and then they can match any other team's offers next year?

Which, if true, I'm kind of questioning the wisdom of...

Contracts are contracts, other than for Karl M. When Paul signed his first contract it had the escalator clause with the amounts he'd receive. His 09/10 will be his big pay day if all goes well. Would think the Jazz will sit down with him before his current contract expires and sign him. Though they aren't stipulated amounts for 2nd rounders, teams know what other teams are paying and so does Paul's agent. Remember the Jazz gave him the opportunity and he produced. How many 47 picks are still in the league? Next year the Jazz player payroll will be over 60 mil. plus the salary cap. Thus the Jazz have to be prudent but not stupid with their money. Jazz had luck on their side in the draft. Hopefully KK will be a baller and not just a player. GO JAZZ

Look, he signed a contract with the Jazz that said he had two years plus an option for the Jazz to pick him up at close to 800,000. It's as simple as that, the Jazz liked him, but he was a second round draft pick so he signed their offer. If they let the contract expire they'd have little, or no, rights to him. The only way to lock him in is to use the option.

He's not stupid, he'll be making at least 5 million a year when this contract expires.

RE:@Yeah

You are actually right and wrong. Milsap is a second round pick and in the second round the contracts are not guaranteed. Which means for second rounders is that teams can cut them and not have to pay them anything. First rounders are guaranteed money based on where they go in the draft.
Second rounders are not guaranteed money unless a team decides to sign them. If they are signed there contract is structured still by where they went in the draft.(That is why Milsaps money is low) The only thing usually negotiable is for how many years which can be one and four.
This structuring was done to protect teams from paying lemons huge amounts of money much like the problem the NFL is having and trying to rectify.

I'm glad we all agree that Milsap is the man. I'll be happy to see him make the money he deserves eventually, and I hope he will always be in a Jazz uniform.
