The Jazz really should have taken Darrell Arthur - He was the best player
available period - I don't care about position. He is going to be a Josh
Howard or Jamison type player in this league.

Why would the O'Connor pick DJ White, who will be, at best, an undersized
power forward in the NBA? We already have Booz and Milsap at that spot (Booz
isn't gone yet and do you really think the Jazz will let him go without
getting someone of equal value in return?). The Jazz are stacked at the 2/3
spot, and Price has shown some promise as a backup for D-Will, but the Jazz are
WEAK at the center. They need a big who can clog up the lane and defend around
the rim. I am not saying that Koufus is that man, but given the selection at #23
I think O'Connor got as good a pick as any. Bigs are pretty hard to come by
and it's all just a crap shoot that late in the draft.

Wright???? It's not an answered prayer that this dude dropped. It's
that there's something wrong with him. I don't know what, but I'd

Okay, JAZZ fans - you have had your say. Now, it is my turn. Late teens and
early 20's may not yet have completed the maturation process and along with
good coaching, mentoring, etc., interesting things could possibly happen. Have
to be patient. In the interim, could we please ask Carlos Boozer to dump that
unorthodox free-throw shooting style of his. Watch Kobe B. or Kyle K. on film
and see exactly how they do it. Free throws not only make a difference in the
final score but also in the game's strategy - particularly in the final
minutes. There should be tangible rewards for good free-throw shooting (free
tickets to REAL games, e.g.) JAZZ fans - think of the games we shoulda, coulda,
woulda IF we just had consistently above-average free-throw shooting. Even
Odum's goofy style would be an improvement to Carlos'
move-every-bone-and-muscle-style. Do it Carlos, and I'll personally
guarantee that the JAZZ will win more, relax more, and yes, get the home-court
advantage. The "easiest shot in basketball" according to Hot Rod. By
the way, Denver Nuggets - no draft picks and swept in 1st round - with two
All-Stars. Absolutely, incredible !!!

Back to the draft. For those of you bagging on O'Conner, he also did draft Ronnie Brewer at 14 who was our STARTING 2 guard last year. Not an all-star, but if you can find a starter at 14 that contributes to the team, you're doing well. It's easy to point to the lack of success the Jazz have had in the draft over the past 20 years. But, at the same time, you can't expect much seeing how they've been in the playoffs every year but a couple, which means they are not even close to the lottery. Look at percentages of guys making it in the league beyond the lottery picks....not good. That in mind, the Jazz have done an above average job at getting good picks late in the draft. Hey, its not hard to be better than Collins....good pick (hopefully)!

By the time Boozer leaves, Koufus will be ready to back up Memo. We just need a
backup for Millsap, our starting PF once Boozer disses us. I wonder if we can
replace Boozer with Elton Brand. That would be awsome.

What were we thinking! I was watching the draft last night and at the 23 pick, I
was hoping, since hibbert and robin lopez were off the board, I though we would
have made the best pick for us in taking a backup solid point guard in Mario
Chalmers. I was eager to hear his name...And then I hear "With the 23rd
pick in the 2008 nba draft, the utah jazz select Kosta Koufos." What?! Yeah
he's a good center who can score, but we don't need that. We need a
defensive-minded center who's long and lanky and is mean inside the paint,
not a softy who can shoot. I was very disapointed. Chalmers, a point guard for
the championship team, who hit big shots when it counted should have been our
pick at 23, not Koufos. Our 2nd round picks were interesting.. We'll have
to see if they can develop like AK did for his two years in Russia. Anyway
overal Grade for the Jazz---F!

First off I think the Jazz got a steel in Koufos but one red flag I heard of
from the Buckeyes head coach on k-fan was that in Koufos' junior year of
high school he broke his foot. Now I tried looking it up to see if it was a
stress fracture or what but I couldn't find any info. Remember Curtis
Borchardt? In my opinion that kid could play but he kept having foot problems,
ie stress fractures, which is common for bigs and has the potential to ruin
carriers. Does anybody know any thing about this?

I am glad that they didn't move up to pick Lopez. With the Jazz luck on
Stanford picks, he would be just another foot injury that would just be sucking
cap space.
There wasn't a better prospect left at 23. Whether or not he works out shouldn't matter, as (hopefully) Fes will make the pick redundant.

What does everybody expect with the 23rd pick, anybody picked that low in the
first round is a wait and see player. Nobody really knows what kind of player
he is going to be. Paul Millsap is a better player than most of the lottery
picks in the year he was drafted. Ronnie Brewer turned out to be a good player
considering where he was drafted.

Give the new guy a chance. I am sure many of you complained about Millsap in his
draft. Millsap was a 2nd round draft, and was the biggest still in his draft.
Hopefuly Sloan will make his team learn some defense.

No complaints about this pick at 23... if he would have staid in school, he
would have been a top 10 pick next year.
I think he was the best pick left on the board for the Jazz - young, big, lots of upside.
You can't expect anyone not taken in the top ten to make an immediate impact on a team... those players are few and far between - and usually surprise everyone when they make an immediate difference - even the team that picked them.

Moving up to get a guy like D-Will is a once in a lifetime move. I'd say we
should be optimistic about nabbing a guy who was projected to go top 15! I
personally haven't seen this guy play, so I'm not going to believe
anything good or bad...until I see him play for myself. From what I read, it
seems that a guy that young and that tall, that already has an "NBA
body", can hopefully be taught defense and if he can get 2-3 blocks a game
and affect the middle with aggression, it will turn out to be a great pick in my
opinion. I say try to trade Collins and Hart if you can...then develop Fes or
Koufos as a solid backup to Memo. Go Jazz! Why be a fan if you can't be
optimistic?? Also, I disapprove of all the Jimmy posers. I know the real Jimmy
and his insights are all valid and well thought out. The third-person is just
for humor. You're stupid if that bugs you. Its just for fun!!!

Okur has a lot to his game I like, but I'm having a hard time thinking this
is a good pick when our Jazz's perimter defense was one of the worst in the
NBA.

I think it's funny how worked up people get over the draft. Most years the
league is lucky to add more than 5 or 6 impact players, some years they get only
get 1 or 2. So really who cares what we get at 23? No one will contribute much
other than the first 2 picks this year anyway. The jazz did well to get guys
who can't come over because we don't want them yet anyway. As for
Koufos, well hopefully Fes will able to run a play next year and K can replace
him in Orem, because Fes already makes a difference defensively. I guess my
point is to get an impact center at 23 is impossible so quit expecting it. To
trade for one is also almost impossible because there are so few around. Yeah a
defensive center will make it not as bad that booz sucks at defense, but
aren't we just masking the bigger problem here? (I'm not saying trade
Boozer, but let's send him to some highschool summer camp and revisit the
basics)

Tough to count all the whiners commenting but I suspect most of this is one-in-the-same Sloan Hater.
People, we picked 23 in the draft. This guy was ranked #12-15 in most mock drafts. He was the best player available by far. Those suggesting these other bigs have not reviewed their one-dimensionable attributes and long lists of drawbacks. This guy was the best available.
This is kid is big, he is just 19 and already has some decent skills. All he has to do is learn a bit better how to clog the middle and alter some shots--he can already shoot.
This draft is FILLED with freshman who will be TOTAL NON-FACTORS next season. Our crapshoot on this guy is as good as we could have hoped for. Maybe good maybe not. Welcome to picking late.
All you whiners complaining about successful draft picks have obviously not analyzed how many starters have come from picks 11-30 for the past 5 years--you can count them on both hands. It is just not that likely--sure there are always a few but generally not many even make it. We are always picking late because we win--what a curse!!! Duh!!

Koufus was the perfect pick for utah. He's a big true center,(7-1
barefoot)he can run, he's very athletic for a seven footer- unlike Hibbert.
He has huge upside. He was MVP of the NIT last year. He was MVP in the U18
European championship team for Greece last summer. He can shoot and score. And
from what I've read he's a better than average defender with potential
to become a very good defender. He also has a good work ethic. He's not
Greg Oden or Mark Eaten but he was the 2nd youngest player in the draft and the
youngest American born player at 19 and if he wants to he can become a good
defender. Also, just because he can shoot and is good offensively doesn't
mean he's soft. Potential wise I think the Jazz just drafted the best
player not taken in the lottery. Draft express had him listed as the 2nd best
center in the draft

Just like O'Connor said before the draft, he took the best player
available. Koufos fell lower than expected so the Jazz took him. If they
can't use him, they'll trade him. The kid only played one year in
college, he's got several years to develop, just give him time and then
judge him. He could be a bust, he could be great, the Jazz and all NBA teams
know this. Fortunately the Jazz know a lot more than the fans... who, all
except for me of course, know basically nothing.

O'Connor is an idiot. He should have traded all of our picks, Boozer, AK,
D-Will, Memo, Harpring, and Milsap to Miami for the 2nd pick. That way we could
be rebuilding next year as well. What was he thinking. No wonder LHM is in the
hospital. He probably blew a vein when he heard we could have dropped down to a
$5M salary for the team.

I also really like our 2nd round picks, keep in mind that Utah doesn't
currently own a 1st round pick next year so Tomic is essentially next years
pick. He was originally playing professionally as a guard until he went on an 8
inch growth spurt so for a 7 footer he has amazing ball control and can flat
out play offensively and he's also very quick, However However However!!!
He's super skinny but who knows maybe he can go on a lateral growth spurt
as well. As for the other guy he was the MVP of the league he was playing for
last year so maybe that could translate to the NBA in 2 to 5 years

But I think the Jazz will regret not drafting Darrell Arthur. He was the most
talented and athletic player available when the 23rd pick rolled around. The
only reason he was still on the board was because of a false report of a
potential kidney problem. Arthur was considered a Top 10 talent with both an
inside/outside game. Everybody goes crazy over Derrick Rose for his strong NCAA
tournament performance, but if I remember right I think it was Darrell Arthur
and his 20 and 10 performance in the NCAA title game that was so impressive.

Devon Hardin from Cal was available in the second round. He's strong,
athletic and very raw. He's also very defensive minded. The Jazz do well
drafting skill positions but centers and power forwards????? Hardin could have
filled the defensive need. The Jazz did not improve with this draft. They
better make a trade or two.

I like the Jazz' approach for young centers. They currently own 3 legit 7
footers under the age of 22 that all have tremendous upside so one of them is

of the Jazz in person, but do you really think they drafted him blindly? Ever
heard of game film? Ever heard of a telephone, which they used to do a
background check on him? Ever heard of talking to his former coaches? But I am
somewhat curious about your lame assertion that Koufos achieved more than Jarron
Collins did in college. Collins played in the 1998 Final Four while at Stanford.
Koufos left OSU after his freshman year. Facts, Agent Man: They're the
building blocks of an informed opinion.

Granted Boozer was MIA in the playoffs but come on get real. Jazz are the 4-6th best team in the league; and that doesn't happen with one just player (see Cleveland for details). We need palyer that can play D; which was obvious from the LA series.
