Chaffetz wins big He turns Cannon into a lame duck

Cannon was the better one of the two. What a shame on the people of the 3rd district in Utah. Maybe the Utah stereotypes do have some truths to it.
In the general election the democrats will win. I hope they win the senate and house too. I'm a republican and I'm very disappointed.
Just throw the Republicans who hire undocumented workers in jail. Problem solved.
People who type in All Caps should be deported.
For eight years we've had a republicorp president who, at the start of his term (until 2004), had majorities in congress. Look at the results: two wars, trillions of dollars spent, from surplus to record deficits, millions of manufacturing jobs lost, inflation way out of control (despite official numbers), millions of illegal aliens, no border control, tax cuts for Bill Gates and Warren Buffet, 1 in 6 Americans waiting for bankruptcy due to inability to pay for a hospital stay, this list could go on and on... Why do you support this party? Abortion seems to be the only issue you care about. It remains legal. Apparently no one is going to change that. Now, on the other hand, being objective, I experienced great prosperity under Bill Clinton (notwithstanding his moral flaws). I got the two best tax incentives I've ever got (tuition and child tax credit), and we had surpluses. What am I missing here?

The 20-point margin of victory was far outside the margin of error for the June poll. This was more than an election - it was an uprising. And polls don't capture that type of development.
All lawmakers should take heed.
It wasn't ANY of you. It was angry anti-incumbent voter sentiment. Many of us who voted aren't anti-immigration, either; we are just fed up with a do-nothing Congress, with the status quo in Washington, and with the way this country is headed. We just want a reasonable person to bring change.
Because of the re-districting, I could not vote for him yesterday.
I've had many dealings with Mr. Cannon. All I can say is I'm very pleased that Jason won the primary. Continued hard work by his team is important. I was very impressed with Jason this morning on the Doug Wright show on KSL. He kept saying "We" and "Our". Great job Mr. Chaffetz and team.
Some people claim that Cannon had influence in Washington.
To whatever extent that is true, he used his influence for negative purposes.
Isn't someone who can do a little bit of good better than someone who's doing a lot of evil?
Sorry you lost your job as a Cannon staffer.
Now you may have to find a job doing something constructive for a living.
My vote did count and it was on a winner!
Cannon thought that we the people owed him.
I never felt that he was representing me.
Orrin Hatch, you better put the music away and start listening to us little people!
You might be next!
Yes Cannon was an embarrassment- only to be replaced with a bigger right-wing extremist nut job.***
The same situation is what we have with the presidential candidates Juan McCain and H. Hussein Obama. "Change" but change to what?
The GOP has done nothing since Bush took office and the Democrats have done nothing since they took over Congress four-years ago.
Vote them all out and start will all freshmen and women and lets think new ideas instead of pandering...
This all said, he was pretty classy today on Doug Wright's show. He'll figure something else to do. And, he'll be pretty upbeat about it. I actually feel a bit sorry for him today. I hope he finds a path that works for him and his family.
You/Me - Did WE get involved in telling Cannon before elction time in letters, emails, etc. that we weren't happy? (Be honest, now!)
Chaffetz - Will WE get involved with letters, emails, etc. in telling Jason what we want and/or what it appears he is not doing right? (Will we be honest, and truly tell him?)
Chaffetz - Did he sell the electorate during the campaign. Obviously so. Now can he deliver? He'll be new and in a way, we have lost "seniority clout" in Congress. Can he be pursuasive and effective in Congress? We'll see. If he doesn't appear to being pursuasive and effective, what is OUR responsibility?
Cannon - Did he sell the electorate during the campaign? Obviously not. Can he be helpful to Chaffetz? Or will he say, "You won, now show us what more you can do than me?"
THE NAME OF THE GAME - WE need to be involved ALL THE TIME and not just at Election Time! ! !
BRING ON THE NEXT STEP ! !
The message from last night should send a few shock waves out to the guys who think they can't be beaten no matter what they say or do. Bennett is the biggest corporate hack in the country, that is who he represents. He thinks he can outspend everyone just like Cannon and so he feels safe in voting for amnesty to keep his donors happy. Time to "Cannonize" him next.
All mankind are the children of our Father in Heaven. Why can people not understand that we have a duty to love and care for everyone, not just people who happen to have been born in a given area.
Personally I think men like Cannon have not be strongly and unequivocally enough in favor of treating immigrants as human beings.
I hope Chaffetz gets only two votes in November. He is a disgrace to the Republican party. He would have fit in the Know Nothing party though.
For example, my own experiences with Jason Chaffetz tell me that he is extremely dishonest in his campaigning, and that he is a bit of an opportunist. I also don't believe I have any idea what his real beliefs are. However, I have no problem accepting that his family and close friends see many good things about him that I don't. I am also sure that many of his supporters have rational reasons for voting for him. I won't, but I not a foaming-at-the-mouth partisan, so I can accept that there is a good side to him that I just don't know.
Cannon - Did he fail to deliver in congress? >>You/Me - Did WE get involved in telling Cannon before election time in letters, emails, etc. that we weren't happy? If not, we'll kick him out as well.
O.K. A few quick questions.
How many Cannon staffers have served more than a couple year's with him? Answer: Very, very few.
How many Chief of Staffs has he had in his 12 years? Answer: I count 9.
How many of his original campaign or congressional staff are still supportive of him? Answer: I'm not aware of one.
How many Cannon staffers left voluntarily? Answere: Most are pushed out.
Maybe the interns enjoy the experience but very few of the paid staff have had a good experience.
We need change of some of the rules of the house and the senate to make real change. But it can start by voting out all incumbents.
Cannon has been forced into THREE primaries and lost his seat because he was viewed--accurately or not--as one of the leading champions of open borders, amnesty, and otherwise giving over our nation and culture to illegal aliens. WAKE UP and represent the interests of CITIZENS.
Glad to see this one turn out the way it did. Just like it needed to turn out.
Like Jason said, "Now let's get rid of Hatch, Bennett and Bishop." No Jason, I'm not will to lump Matheson in among the ones who've been part and whole in cause the Republican debacle to our country. We actually need to keep Matheson and elect one more Democratic person in the House of Representatives and when it comes time, vote for a Democratic Senator.
Now listen you Republican conservative who are so bent on being fair and balanced... what I've suggested would be "Fair & Balanced" for Utah politics and the politics of the nation.
I'd like to know the TRUTH of some of the allegations that some posters have made about Chaffetz's honesty--not just opinions, please.
Chaffetz got his start in political start in Utah working for THE DUKAKIS CAMPAIGN, PEOPLE!!!
Hellooo. The guy just changed his spots. He's a dang Democrat!! Good one, Utah.

Reps, the same can be said of Rep Rob Bishop. Hopefully if Jason Chaffetz is elected in November he will go back to Washington and listen and learn the system and then really put forth a work ethic that will set him apart from his fellow freshman legislators. Utah really needs a statesman in Washington and not just another politician. Senator Hatch has had a distinguished career in the Senate and is highly respected by his peers. Utah's representatives in the House have done little for the people of Utah whom they represent. They have enjoyed the perks and salary and yet have not been leaders or sponsors of significant legislation. With the Democrats likely to remain in power, it might be time to serious consider sending qualified and capable Democrats to Washington where they will have more of voice in a Democrat controlled House of Representatives. Or if not, lets send some different Republicans that will really do some work.
