wow, looks like the people are sick and tired of the old timers within the political arena. I wonder if this is going to be the same for the upcoming Presidential election. It's going to be interesting...

Talk about the most irrelevant aside comment to make in a political article, the mentioning of the editor of the DN as Chris Cannon's brother. What's the point? Someone wants to get promoted on the DN staff...what a suck up.

Then again, brother Chris is notorious for all the wrong reasons...

When I listened to a radio debate between Mr. Cannon and Mr. Chaffetz a day or two before the election, I literally cringed as I listened to school-yard tactics being used by two men who wanted to represent me in Congress. The debate was nothing but hot air. The "yes you did", "no I didn't" dialog got tiresome in a hurry.

Frankly, after listening to that "debate", I started wishing that there would be a "none of the above" option on the ballet.

In the voting booth, I chose Mr. Cannon, knowing that Mr. Chaffetz, as a freshman, would be completely ineffective for two years - unless every other Representative was also a freshman. But even as I cast my ballot, I knew that Mr. Cannon, if he had been heard on the radio, didn't have a chance.

To me, that was more than sad. A noble Representative had an ugly moment on the radio. That may not have influenced many voters, but, to me at least, it was the point that the campaign was lost.

Big business, especially pharmaceutical and mining money, not only paid for Cannon's campaigns, but REIMBURSED the $3m loan he made to himself to run the first time. Cannon received a great deal of "soft money" as well. As Transportation Chair, Cannon obtained millions in "earmarks" that benefitted his contributors. Cannon personifies the need for campaign finance reform. His defense of disgraced Republicans is embarrassing. His stand on immigration is ludicrous. His rabid partisanship contributes to the paralysis in Washington.
I hate Cannon. That he is my representative sickens me. But I would vote for Cannon over Chaffetz anyday. (If I could actually vote, but since I will not join the party of Cannon and Chaffetz, I was not allowed to.) GO Bennion Spencer!!!

When Chris Cannon announced that he would run for a second term, I attended the announcement event as a reporter. I walked into a room filled with middle-aged, overweight, well-dressed, white men and as I walked around and introduced myself, I was surprised at who I met: Cannon supporters, Cannon contributors, and Cannon advisors, but they were not from Utah.

I think most people didn't vote because they didn't want to have to declare themselves as Republicans. However, they aren't really Democrats either... Kind of Independants.

Perhaps it's more like Indedemocrablicans...

It is the death of our system when so few vote. Sadly, it opens the door to candidates who cant address the salient issues of the district as a whole, as they were elected by those few and generally more extreme voters. Sorry, but Mr. Chaffetz is too right wing for most of Utah. However, apathy among the general constituency leads gives more extreme groups access to government.

Mr. Chaffetz does not represent my interests, or those of the people with which I associate. Because I voted, I have the right to complain. To any who did not, for whatever reasons, you have given up the right to do so.
