NBA draft: Teams playing name game

Jimmy doesn't want to play the name game. Jimmy wants to discuss Chad Ford's article and assertion that the Heat will not draft Beasley because they are planning at getting Boozer after this season.

Jimmy thinks the Jazz need to get this situation resolved before Boozer is able to bolt after this season for nothing. Jimmy is not sure Miami would take a Boozer + #23 for #2 (Beasley) and salary cap filler, but the Jazz at least need to explore it because losing Boozer for nothing after this season will set back the Jazz's title aspirations several years.

Can anyone tell Jimmy when the Jazz can start to negotiate a contract extension for Boozer?

Boozer will again be a lame duck. He is a very capable PF but lacks the heart to take a team to the championship. He likes to play El Matador defense and is afraid to bang underneath on defense. Who knows, he may help the US to another bronze medal. Silver is a long shot when he plays the El Matador. We all know that he will bolt, he did it in Cleveland and will do it again. You are kidding yourself if you think he will stay. Trade him for something or go after something else. He has no loyalty. Ask us Cleveland fans, we will tell you the truth.

The Jazz need a Wilt Chamberlan Body with a Bill Russell Brain. Go Jazz!

I think Boozer is a great player. A summer with Team USA and his old college coach will help him sort out some of his defensive shortcomings (Boozer was a better defender coming out of Coach K's system then he is now). I just hope Booz has developed a better sense of loyalty since abandoning Cleveland. In his first two season in Utah, he missed over 80 games (or a full season)(And I think the injuries were legitimate, just very unfortunate). If he opts out next year, he will only have played for three years of a six year contract. If for any other reason, he should not opt out so he can make up for the games he missed during his first two seasons.
With Williams about to get a long term extension, hopefully Boozer sees the advantage of playing in this system.
If anything else, we could see a more motivated season with Boozer trying to up his stock value before he opts out. Maybe that's the motivation he needs to play a little more D.
In the meantime, let's hope Miami trades for Brand.

I agree the first person references are really annoying, but that is probably why you do it.

Boozer has a Player Option after this year. So if he wants to opt out he can.

Jazz won't do anything with him this season, so everybody can just settle down. LHM is in love with Booz and he will generate revenue having 2 Team USA players. Booz will stay this year and then we will see what he does next summer.

The reason "Jimmy's Sneakers" comes off like he does is because it's a play on a character from a Seinfeld episode. The character is hilarious and I've always found "Jimmy's Sneakers" comments to be good.

Y'all need to just chill with insulting each other. Lets talk sports already!

First let me say that Boozer is a great player but he is either going to leave next year or make the Jazz pay him close to the 20 million a year mark. If the Jazz pay someone who plays no defense this much money they won�t have the cap room to sign the other players they would need to win a championship. Sure they would be in the playoffs, but I sincerely believe the Jazz could make the playoffs without Boozer. I want them to be able to compete for a championship.
To start out you should realize that I am trying to think of trades that could actually go through. This means the other team would want to do it and salaries would have to match up. I would love to trade Jarron Collins for Dwight Howard, but it ain�t going to happen. Secondly, many of these trades would mean Andrei would have to play some minutes at the four. I was slightly worried about his ability to defend that position and then I realized Boozer doesn�t provide much defense at that position either

1. Boozer to Atlanta for Josh Smith in a sign and trade. I don�t think Atlanta would go for this trade because Smith is capable of becoming a superstar in the league. However, Atlanta has several good wing players that could step in and replace him and Marvin Williams probably isn�t a true power forward. This would worsen the log jam at the 3 spot for the Jazz, but this guy is so good it would be worth it.
2. Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver to Milwaukee for Micheal Redd, Charlie Villaneuva, and a future draft pick. Milwaukee wants to get rid of Redd, and it will be easier for them to replace him in the draft than to find a good big man so they would be crazy to pass on this offer.

3. Boozer, Collins, and Fesenko to Memphis. Kyle Lowry and Memphis� 28th pick to either Indiana or Sacramento for their draft pick and a guy with a small contract back to Memphis. Jason Collins, Darko Milicic, the 5th pick, and the 11th or 12th pick to the Jazz. Sacramento and Indiana are both rumored to be looking for a point guard and Memphis has too many. Memphis may balk if they like Milicic but I think he is just a backup player they won�t mind dumping. I don�t want Jason Collins but I think he only has a year left on his contract. The Jazz have shown that they are pretty good at drafting so this gives them a chance to get two good players for the price of one. This would also mean the Jazz would not have roster room to resign Miles but they aren�t giving him many minutes and they have Almond waiting in the wings. Besides, any trade that involves both of the Collins brothers should happen just for the sheer irony.

if anyones says to trade boozer they are not smart. did you not notice boozer was being tripled team against the lakers? and boozer knows the offense and stuff. it would take a rookie at best 1 year to get to know the offense. plus dwill likes boozer. if boozer leaves, maybe williams will to.

How do any of those trades help us? Let's try to remember that Boozer is an all-star and if we trade him we need to get an all-star in return. Let's just come to terms that there is no way we're gonna trade Boozer. And don't underestimate his loyalty. We made him an all-star, something that Cleveland did not do. He's got a good thing going here for him and will not let it slip away that easily.

Do you honestly believe Boozer will stick around for less than 20 million/year? If so, is he worth that much?

All the trade experts here remind my of a Laker blog from many years ago. Always jumping the gun with fantastic trades that never made any sense. Drop the phone and take two steps back. Leave the trade speculation to the real experts.

Who knows what will happen with Boozer, but I don't think anything will happen this season. He knows he struggled in the playoffs and yet Utah did relatively well (I don't think there is any shame to losing to a very good Lakers team). D-will is going to sign a big contract, so there is definitely incentive for him to stay. If he does decide to bolt for Miami, I sure hope Utah gets something in return.

Don't talk loyalty with Cleveland and Boozer. They were trying to cheat the NBA and get Boozer for the biggest discount in NBA history. They should have given him the money he was worth then. Also that Josh Smith and Marvin Williams trades are hillarious. Boozer maybe be the worst defender of all times but he is still apparently one of the best America has to offer. (olympics) Josh Smith to Utah I'm sure LHM would be all over that.

I'm not sold on trading Boozer in spite of his horrific defense and sub par playoff results. He is just entering his prime and has improved his game year over year as has Williams. Moving Boozer disrupts team chemistry and is risky. You could end up with a better fit, but more likely you'll end up with a player who doesn't add enough to make it worthwhile.
As for the draft, it's a more of a guessing game than a science. For every Millsap you have three Padgetts, or Lewis', or Luthers, the list goes on. At best, you have a serviceable back up, likely you have a tradeable commodity that shows enough promise to another team you may open up a trade opportunity, and just as likely you have a guy who has one solid game in ten or fifteen.

There is only one trade that make sense.

Memphis gets beasley
Miami gets boozer
Utah gets Kevin Love and a pick for Brook Lopez.

obviously there would need to be other pieces to fill out the trade.

But everyone gets what they want.

I need to make a correction, I said the jazz could get brook lopez.

I meant to say the jazz would still have their pick in which they could get a center.

unless of course, in the trade they could some how get another high pick.
