It's very simple. American's have decided that they'd rather spend billions blowing up a country that has never done a thing to them, than spending it on preserving the beauty of their own country. When a nation makes that decision, it's a nation on the decline.

Unfortuneately, this is nothing new. The U.S. has traditionally chose to underfund the National Park Service. But from other reports that have been published in recent years, the issue seems to be getting worse. Everywhere within the U.S. Government, we tend to be willing to spend money to build something new, but do a poor job at allocating funds for upkeep and maintenance.

At least one recent report shows attendance dropping off at our national parks, and accounts this to the trend in our latest generations to be more interested in electronic entertainment rather than spending time in the outdoors.
