Back to the Basics -

now that's funny. As many of these freeloading FLDS living off the welfare in Arizona and Utah - and you say "at least they're willing to work and not ask for handouts"? What planet have you been living on?

Before you say that they aren't collecting in Texas, rest assured that the welfare checks received in Utah and Arizona are headed straight to YFZ. The only ones working from YFZ are the families that have left and gotten real jobs near where their kids were.

And if you make your children wear these clothes, you are no better than FLDS at denying the rights your children were born with. You want to turn your kids into little mini-clones of FLDS, you go right ahead. If they're older than 8 yrs old, they will hate you for it (as well they should.)

This is not the 1800's and it's stupid for people to act like it is. You want to live the confined life of FLDS, where women have no rights and children are indoctrinated from birth? Then I suggest Afganistan - you would love it there.

Or you can join the 21st century.

The Flds clothing are the ugliest uniforms I have ever witnessed on this planet. To tell the truth- Star Trek has a better clothing outlet.

No man will ever tell me how to dress. Good grief!--this is nauseatingly.

Modesty is fine, but to walk around looking like a tent every day of ones life is way off base.

The fashions of the 1800ï¿½ were quite stylish. The FLDS dresses do not resemble the 1800ï¿½s in way shape or form. There is no style to their clothing period! The FLDS garbs are controlling straight jackets. You may find the same sort of thing in many other controlled polygamy groups. The men are very sick, and choose to take the free will away from woman who is as well a human being. Woman I know enjoy different hairdos that make them comfortable. Clothing that doesnï¿½t create attention which FLDS clothing surly creates much attention...Quite pitiful and not normal.

I notice the FLDS are posting--doesn't take them too long to get ticked off- Oh well.

no one in their right mind would wear those clothes on a hot summer day - so that just goes to show just how brainwashed these women are....

So pls don't say "no one is forcing you to dress the way I do" because all the FLDS women are being forced to wear what they wear... They're just so far gone they don't realize it. It's not modesty - it's called control by the owners (the men).

It probably would depend on if the person would rather a sweltering sun burn by wearing practicly nothing or not.

Since you have never been apart of the FLDS you have no proof whatsoever they are forced to wear those dresses.

If the FlDS choose to dress modest, bless their hearts! You couldn't convince them not too, and rest assured, they aren't going to try convince you to dress the way they do either! This is America. Get use to it.

you can dress modestly and not be a freak. What don't you get? The clothes have NOTHING to do with religion. They have to do with the people being indoctrinated from birth that these are the clothes you WILL wear. You really think 7,000 women all want to dress the same every day? Do you not understand human nature?

The wearing of these clothes (including the long-johns - to prevent sunburn?lol) have absolutely nothing to do with religion. They have to do with control. People dressing alike and living alike are MUCH easier to control than those that don't.

I am neither intolorant nor bigoted. I am for freedom, which the FLDS is severly lacking. Most of America understands that the only way these women and children would live that way is through significant continual control. Do you understand that?

reality check, do you understand that in saying that everyone one of those women within the flds is being controled, is wrong. Have you spoken to every one of those women, to know this? It is possible to choose to live alike and to dress alike, without being controlled. Most of America understand that this is a very complex issue, like the nmany complex issue that America is dealing with today. Most of America does not want thier children to live a FLDS lifestyle, Most also do not want thier children to live hollywood lifestyle.

What a bunch of rude comments! During all the years we lived in Pennsylvania, I NEVER heard ANYONE make such rude comments about how the Amish and conservative Mennonites dressed--and they dress modestly, also. And work darned hard, often outside.
I am not FLDS in any way, but for many of my child-bearing years, I wore long dresses. Frankly, they were comfortable, modest (no matter how I was leaning over playing with kids, or working either), I didn't have to wear nylons in the summer, and I saved a ton of money making them myself. Gunney Saxe made a mint making long dresses during that same time. Of course, they were expensive and covered with lace and ribbons. The FLDS dresses aren't to my personal taste, but why be so hatefully critical?
As to making your children "mini-clones of the FLDS" I just about think I'd rather see kids dressed like that than dressed like little hookers, which I am sure seeing now.

The dresses are awful! I believe their are some FLDS woman or men commenting on here pretending not to be FLDS. You people are dreaming if you think you are going to find women out here that will buy and wear those strange looking clothing. Sorry! to disappoint you gals, who are trying to make a buck from the public, but it just won't work out here. How about trying some modern modest designs, and then possibly you can sell something to others besides polygamist woman.

I think that anybody who doubts that they really have to dress like that should read some of their beliefs. They have a dress standard that does not permit them to wear other kinds of clothing. In some areas they can wear skirts and blouses but there's not much room for self-expression. You really won't be seeing them in any of the stores that carry up-to-date fashions anytime soon.

Yeah, can you believe these people? I'll bet they won't even buy a pair of $200 athletic shoes made in a third world slave labor camp that cost $1.50 to make. Weirdos

I'll bet these guys spend a lot of time out doors and these types of clothing are to accomodate movement and protection from the sun. Interesting concept huh? Practicality as opposed to fashionability.

BTW, I wear denim work shirts all of the time. They wear like iron and are comfortable. I hate it when they wear out.

Had the FLDS stories appeared in 1968 college students might very well have imitated the FLDS dress code. I'm not surprised that it could be starting to happen again.

After all, using their dress as an excuse to ridicule their religion is rather like what has come to be called "politically incorrect".

I am an Flds member. Reading your comments I have to laugh. And yes sometimes Poly-cotton is hot, but we also make dresses out of light weight cotton and such. It is also like living in a hot place, your body get used to the conditions. I don't sweat more than the next person (I think, I've never actually compared.)NONE of the People in the YFZ ranch were on welfare. Come on they produced thier own milk and jobs at the cement plant. My husband has three pairs of 100 dollar shoes two are boots to meet the saftey standards of his work. There shouldn't even be state welfare if it is a crime to be on it. most people EVERY WHERE are criticised for being on it. They need help HELP THEM!!!

First off, I think the dresses are wonderful, they are not my style, and I think that is an excellent price for a handmade dress.

Secondly, AmberRose, welfare is not meant for anyone, anywhere in the country to live off of for ever, it is meant to help people down on thier luck to get back on thier feet, and yes, it is a crime when a women keeps having children and cant or wont say who the father is to keep collect state money.
When my husband and I had our son at 18, we were on food stamps and medicaide, but you know what, WE STOPPED HAVING KIDS, waited 6 years untill we were financially able to have another child. So, yes, help a family out temporaly, but you cannot keep spitting out children year after year and keep expecting the government to help you out.

Around my part of the world there is a community of Mennonites. Their mode of dress is a little different, as is their speech. No one cares. If variety is the spice of life, I'm glad for folks who dress differently than me. What would be a solution for those that can't accept the dfference? Make it manditory shop only from old navy, the gap?
Most of these comments suprise me in that I thought once I graduated from junior high, I thought I'd never hear them again.

I am FLDS. I'm not on any kind of goverment assistance and to tell you the truth, I only know of one family in my town that is, (and I know alot of people) I think it very wrong to assume all FLDS people are on welfare. They work very hard, and do a very good job supporting their families.

As for the dresses, they are not hot to me. I also have a very sensitive nose and if they stunk, I would be the first to notice. It's hard to make a correct judgement unless you have worn the dresses yourself.

If you think our clothes are hideous, you can only imagine what we think of yours, (the ones that are wearing some) No offence!

i think any of you who are making fun of these women are wrong. these women have no choice about anything in their lives, why would they get to choose what to wear? every aspect of their lives are dictated by the men and the dress code, gives the men absolute control. i feel really really bad for these beautiful women who dont get to express themselves with a little makeup and a cute skirt. i grew up orthodox jewish and the girls also are taught to dress really modestly but flds is going to another extreme.

I have to chuckle about an incident where a female "Gentile" dressed up like the FLDS and successfully served subpoenas that no one else was able to serve. She was able to make it all the way to the front door of the homes that needed to be served because she looked like a "saint".

What is the differance between clothing mandated by religious observation and clothing mandated by the profit hungry fashion industry? Both can be said to be making victims of women. At least the FLDS clothing is practicle, long lasting, and modest. The same can not be said for the products of the consumerist fashion industry, whose products are all too often discarded after a few wearings, because they are "no longer cool".

I was just reflecting on when I began modest dressing. My husband and I had moved to Arizona and I had been studying in my personal scripture study about covering my head, I felt called to do so and began to do just that, I found that wearing skin-tight jeans and t-shirts to be strange with a covering on my head and so began wearing modest long dresses. This was my choice, I didn't even ask hubby's permission, what man in his right mind has anything to do with choosing what a woman wears, I'm sure the men of the FLDS don't have any say at all as to what their wives wear.

honestly, i don't know what the fuss is about. in the 1980s, these dresses were common fashions in the stores and malls. i had several prairie style dresses; they were made by laura ashley and jessica mcclintock/gunne sax. the white dresses with the puffy sleeves were favorites for graduation with pearls. as for the hair, how many readers are old enough to have pics of themselves in french braids? to me, these women look like my friends and i did back in high school.
