Before and after his missionary deferment, Romney also received nearly three years of deferments for his academic studies. When his deferments ended and he became eligible for military service in 1970, he drew a high number in the annual lottery that determined which young men were drafted. His high number ensured he was not drafted into the military.
The deferments for Mormon missionaries became increasingly controversial in the late 1960s, especially in Utah, leading the Mormon Church and the government to limit the number of church missionaries who could put off their military service. That agreement called for each church ward, or church district, to designate one male every six months to be exempted from potential duty for the duration of his missionary work...."
The Boston Globe, "The Making of Mitt Romney".
I can see where McCain and Romney likely don't have much in common. McCain believes in service, and walked the walk.
"That 'little dwarf' that you mock has endured more suffering for this nation in one week than you can even imagine. He isn't perfect, but he has the heart of a lion."
Someones military service, no matter how "honorable" the service may seem, does not exempt them from criticism derived from their shortcomings and in no way does that same service automatically qualify you for service in other positions of government.
Agreed. I never said otherwise, did I? That doesn't change the truth in what I pointed out. I'm sick of chickenhawks like Romney that are all about the war and continuing it and threatening it via policy, yet never had the steel to take part in it. To include Bush, Cheney, et al. Cowards that are all too ready to send others to their death.
Wake up people The GOP knows Utah and most LDS will always be in their corner. They will toss you a scrap or two from the table, but don't try to lead the party.
The GOP is supported by big business, Big Business wants to crush competition, No competition equals higher prices and Higher Profits!
Look at the Oil Crisis, the GOP controlled things for years and did not get drilling going anywhere. Remember when that sinner Clinton was President, Oil was $10 a barrel, why? Cheap oil kept us hooked, it fostered demand. Oil was kept soft to eliminate the Popular voice calling for alternatives. BOOM a decade later OPEC is laughing all the way to the bank.
Big Business is no friend to the populace and no friend to Utah
We also know that the Demo way doesn't work either. Look at the last few years the Demos have had control of the congress.
DO NOTHINGS!!!
Where's Huckabee? | 4:35 p.m. June 26, 2008
Where's Gov. Huckabee? Oh, that's right . . . he is nothing more than a tool that McCain used to beat Romney, and has now shrunk back into political obscurity..."
But his great service to the nation shall not be forgotten!

Mitt longed to be in Vietnam, but unfortunately his family didn't have the necessary connections to pull strings that would have allowed him to serve in combat in Vietnam. Mitt was so frustrated by this that he never joined the military that he had so longed to serve.
