Hey laker fans, a few questions for you:
1. Why is luke Walton in the NBA?
2. Why can't kobe play defense?
3. How is the Celtic curse feeling these days?
4. Is it weird to see your team play with a non-biased ref squad?
5. byu, zewbies, stink!
6. How did Pau get so ugly?
7. Why do the lakers overpay not only Mr. Kobe (no defense) Bryant, but also Mr. Phil (only coaches stacked teams) Jackson?

Believe it or not, the posts on the D-News site can sometimes get a bit monotonous. Then, out of the blue, a post by Jimmy's Sneakers to liven things up!

Jimmy's S., You are da man! What do you think about trading Collins for Bogut?

It's obvious Boston won because of Ainge. If he wasn't there, they wouldn't have won.

1-Don't click on the link!" >"The D-News has excellent sports coverage. Brad Rock, Doug Robinson, Tim Buckley, Dick Harmon, Loren Jorgensen, Jody Gennessey and yes... etc"<<

Good for those guys. Good sports writers, one and all. My beef is that professional sports should be reported in the sports section (which I use for the bottom of my bird cage) not the front page.

And what has been a puzzlement to me for years is why professional sports (a business) gets free advertising in the paper while other businesses such as GE or JC Penneys, or Sears, or Toyota or (you name it) has to pay big money for space in the paper. Go figure.
Danny Who? | 4:07 p.m. June 18, 2008
Wow, in all of the games I watched I didn't hear Ainge's name once. Apparently he had a larger role than the players, Doc, or anyone else...

Still though, it was a pleasure to see the "MVP" of the league be destroyed by the MVT (most valueable TEAM).

And yes, there is some dirty business in the NBA... The Lakers would have never made it without the 100s of free points handed to Kobe on the way.

1. Luke Walton - because his dad goes to his games.
2. Kobe - Because he is offensive.
3. Celtic Curse - The Lakers threw the series. Wins need to be passed around the league to keep fans coming back.
4. Refs - They got caught fixing awhile back. They may have learned their lesson... until the next time.
5. Pass
6. Pass
7. Why do all players (and coaches) get overpaid, is the big question.
lakers | 4:24 p.m. June 18, 2008
jimmy thinks the lakers are bitter that refs were not favoring lakers. Jimmy thinks danny ainge had little to do with the boston title. Jimmy thinks danny ainge is over rated like the lakers. Jimmy thinks Danny Ainge has had one good/lucky/nba scripted/ season compared to many 24 win seasons and therefore danny ainge is not good. jimmy thinks the ainge (son)kid playing for BYU is no good. Me thinks byu not good b-ball program because Mr. rose bad coach.

All year long, to the very end, I thought the NBA champ would come out of the West, the definitely superior conference. Shows you what I know.

How did Danny Ainge get Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett without giving away the farm and the future? Nice job!

Jazzsmack | 5:04 p.m. June 18, 2008
Celtics and laker win championships because they have the courage to make trades.

Case in point: The cetics traded al jefferson a great young talent, who had great year in minnesota for Kevin garnett.

While the utah jazz don;t win championships and cling to their players like white on rice.

Let's Make a Deal | 5:13 p.m. June 18, 2008
Jazzsmack: who would you trade and for whom?
Dry Lakers | 5:19 p.m. June 18, 2008
Far and away the West has better talent and will have next year with up and coming Portland and the Okies from Muskogee.

But this year was just the Year of the Celt.
Stir Fry | 5:22 p.m. June 18, 2008
Jazzmack I think that white on rice comment was rascist. This time next year you won't be able to say a thing like that in public. In two years you won't even be able to think it.
West is pathetic | 5:29 p.m. June 18, 2008
This just proved the West is way over rated. The Hawks took the Cs to 7. So did Cleveland. The Pistons took them to 6, winning on their home court. And could have gone 7 or won if Sheed didn't mail it in. The Lakers? They were basically dominated throughout the series, and that was after dominating the top two teams in the west in earlier series. BAsed on this series, imagine what Boston would have done to SA to UTah. OVER ... RATED ... OVER ... RATED ...
Keith Frank | 5:55 p.m. June 18, 2008
A couple of interesting word usages in this article.
First, in the headline. Prodigy. While it is proper to use the word in relation to a person with exceptional qualities and abilities, it often, if not usually, carries the connotation of a child who is talented beyond his years. Ainge is hardly a child, or even chronologically young. He is approaching fifty, if not yet there.

Second, evacuate. It is defined in the Oxford American Dictionary as "send people away from a place of danger." The implication is usually that those people should be evacuated to a place of greater safety. Perhaps obliquely appropriate, even though Los Angeles is a place that many people would not consider to be safe at all. A secondary definition may have been what Mr. Rock was aiming to imply.

Evacuate, according to the same source, can mean to empty the contents of (the bowel or other organ). If Boston Garden is the bowel. It is obvious that (if this is what he meant) the Lakers are the substance that the organ emptied. Perhaps an appropriate comparison considering the team's performance, and their "superstar's" history.

Ainge is such an awesome guy and a superduper athlete. It's just so fortunate the he went to BYU. That's obviously what made him the man he is today. Like someone else suggested, we can only look forward to Plaisted to carry on the BYU Legacy in the NBA. Can't wait.

someone from Idaho | 10:14 p.m. June 18, 2008
First the Jazz will on average never be more than the top end of mediocre due to location and management style. What personality does Utah really attract? Does that seem to fit most top tier athletes? Does the size of the Utah market lend it self to large endorsement deals?

You need many great players to win championships. Utah cant attract players without significant outlay of cash (not that you would want him, but would Kobe be in Utah for what he is making now?)

Next point management style;
Who doubts that the Jazz are managed to maximize profit vs. the owners ego? Championships cost a lot and the buzz after seldom covers that cost so the owner is faces the question do I sell while I can (think 97 Marlins) or do I try and repeat in and coast on legacy? Both are risky paths made more so by the costs of luring talent to Utah.

If a team is managed to be competitive enough to keep the fans interested the costs go down without a proportional change in income. The results are pleasing to the owners wallet and keep the fans coming back for the underdog miracle.

From the first to the last, one thing that you can say about Danny Ainge is that he epitomizises the phrase, "Never say die!" He is WAY past determined.

That's why he's been so successful in his career(s), he is completely dogged and resolute. The time when he won the game against Notre Dame way back when is a good example. The guy was and is single-minded.

His success in Boston this year doesn't surprise me. I'm looking forward to more from Danny Ainge.

"If it were not for Danny Ainge not a soul in the rest of the United States would know where Utah was or what it stood for."

Are you kidding me? New Englanders are smart people so don't try to be one of them!

Congrats to Danny and the Celtics.
Danny Ainge | 1:10 a.m. June 19, 2008
Yes, Ainge is a great guy, but does he have any archlogical evidence that supports his claims? How about DNA evidence that he is a great leader?
Chuck | 9:09 a.m. June 19, 2008
What more can be said? Danny Ainge orchestrated the 2008 NBA "DREAM TEAM"....No one else did what he did. The Celtics are where they are today because Danny put the best team together and it all jelled. Sometimes the most talented teams don't win because there are to many individuals and personal agendas. We used to call them "ball hogs" or "non-team players". Not so with Boston this year. An incredible feat: 24 to 66 winning games between last and this season. Somebody in Boston had a will to win...
Ainge unimpressive | 9:31 a.m. June 19, 2008
A one and done which is what this will be is the new lame standard of sports championships. Take a look at the Florida Marlins, who cares that the Florida Marlins won a championship, nobody . . . not even the people in Florida.

Ainge go lucky and put together a one night stand, big deal. He was overrated as a player and is now an overrated GM.

To all things New England it appears as if all the Patriot titles are now under handed so don't get too excited you are all cheaters.

Ainge, everyone say it OVER RATED!!!

Re: Ainge un... | 10:25 a.m. June 19, 2008
Maybe if you type in 96 pt, bold, caps, you can convince everyone that your fantasy is reality.

The most storied team in NBA history just added another NBA Championship trophy to their collection. Danny has been an integral part of 3 of those championships.

He was also the college player of the year his senior year.

Over rated???

Based on what?

Only your hateful opinion!

Great job Danny!!! The Celtics are finally back to their rightful places in the basketball world.
Two and done more like it | 10:47 a.m. June 19, 2008
These Celtics will be in the finals again next season and should beat LA in 7. LA will come back more determined and prepared with Bynum and more toughness but I think we will see Boston do it again next season. BUT, I don't see a three-peat. The Big Three will not have enough to do it after next season. Regardless, any GM would give anything to bring their team a championship - let alone a likely two - even if they have to start all over again after that. Good job Ainge!!
Leisure | 12:29 p.m. June 19, 2008
I played backyard basketball with our neighbors in Oregon. Danny Ainge's Father, Don and I teamed up against Don's two sons, Doug and David. Danny being 10 years old kept trying to get into the games but we kept saying to Danny, "Go Away".
Well Danny, You can play with us now!
Lakers | 12:32 p.m. June 19, 2008
yeah, good job ainge. you were playing like a mad man out there on the court, pulling down boards, steals, trash talking kobe. But it is just what we expected from you ainge cause you have been doing that all year! Thats right danny, YOU won the championship. we can now forget the 24 win season last year and the last who knows how many years. because you got lucky and the timing was right. You are soooo talented!
Interesting | 12:41 p.m. June 19, 2008
Somehow the Celtics can go from one of the worst records then win a championship the next year. We are alot closer than the Celtics were a year ago...maybe we could pull off one move to get us there? The Lakers can pull off one move, inside a season, and get to the finals. Maybe we could do that. Or maybe not, maybe not just the refereeing is rigged. Maybe the trade deals are subsidised somehow...to help the "big market" teams.
Re: Lakers | 12:32 p.m. | 1:18 p.m. June 19, 2008
Bitter Lakers fan or simply a BYU hater? Difficult to tell on this blog.

Danny was able to do what Phil and the Laker braintrust was unable to do... assemble a TEAM to win another championship for the Celtics.

Congratulations Danny on a job well done!
Minneapolis Cougar | 4:33 p.m. June 19, 2008
I remember Ainge putting on a clinic for Notre Dame and looks like the Lakers got the same education. Good work for a good guy.
Jazzsmack | 5:58 p.m. June 19, 2008
Since the question was asked of me:

Boozer and brewer are the obvious choices along with collins and hart as trade bait.

If want to get something you have to give something up, or like the lakers, get lucky sometimes like they did with magic and gasol.
Rich | 11:18 p.m. June 19, 2008
Congratulations to Ainge and the Celtics. You put all the pieces together, Danny, and Kevin Garnett helped by his team-first attitude.

The Jazz are close to being a dominant team, too. The reason they didn't finish on top this year is simple -- their interior defense was inferior defense. Boozer has the physical skills to play tough but he often looks like he doesn't know where to go. He frequently finds himself starting at the opposition, wondering whether to stay on his man or go help a teammate who is getting beat. The result is that he is in no man's land -- somewhere between his man and the other guy's man, not really committing to either guy. The result is usually a layup by the opposition, or a miss and an offensive board by Boozer's man or Memo's man because Memo had to move over late and nobody picked up his guy. Once Utah gets this figured out and either gets Boozer to improve or gives up and gets rid of him, the Jazz will be true contenders for the championship. They also need to cut down on the desperation 1 on 1 moves when they're behind.
How can you knock Malone? | 6:21 p.m. June 20, 2008
Anyone who calls him/herself a Jazz fan would not rip on Malone--hands down, the greatest power forward ever. Sure, he didn't win a championship, but averaging 25 pts, 10 rbs, and 4 asts over a 19 year career is nothing short of amazing. Shame on anyone who has forgotten how Malone put Utah on the map. Stockton was a great player, but Malone was the one who was truly proud to play in Utah, and was not afraid to represent Utah. Stockton's stint in Utah was a temporary transfer, and he always treated it as such. Malone actually interacted with the community and gave back much more than he received. Malone never personally insulted the "Mormons." I have seen Stockton laugh at and ridicule Mormon missionaries (in person). Yet, it's always Malone who takes the brunt of the criticism when it comes to the lack of a championship. Malone is not to fault any more than Stockton or his supporting cast. Stockton and Malone made each other Hall of Famers--only Malone actually cared about the community he represented.
