Chris has not been a total wimp re: immigration, but he has been the candidate of choice consistantly for the illegal immigration lobbyists. He can say what he wants, but out of the 2 GOP and the 1 Democrat, Chris is the most wimpy on this issue.
I have no problem with temp worker visas, but they should not be used as a tool to get someone that come here without permission in the 1st place to ever have a chance of getting citizenship, or even staying.
There are 3 options
1. Deport them all
2. Have worker visas for some
3. make all of them legal.
You aren't going to find someone 100% for either of the 3, they have some blend. Cannon wants to allow people that are here without any permission in the 1st place a chance to stay, an possibly be citizens.
Jason doesn't. Jason wants to fix the legal immigration first, Cannon says he is for fixing the borders first, but he hasn't delivered.
I don't put much stock in what Throckmorton says any more, since he has received money from Cannon after losing to him in 2004.
Here's an anology to Cannon's "pay a fine" idea for illegals. Let's say you've been waiting in line for a couple days to see the new Hobbit movie on opening day. Right before the movie starts a bunch of people get in front of you, enough people where it looks like you will either be in the front row, or not able to get into the theater. If Cannon were the usher he would offer to make things right by collecting $1.00 from each line jumper, but allow them to stay in line ahead of you.
Enough. Dump Cannon just for the change.
Chaffetz has totally moderated his position on the issue. He has gone from his lovely tent facilities for all illegal aliens to now wanting to give amnesty visas for all 20 million in the US. Actually, that is not moderating that is called flip flopping.
And prove Throckmorton has taken money from Cannon. I heard that two years ago and asked him directly. He pointed me to FEC reports where he actually consulted with the John Jacob campaign early on. The claims that Cannon has paid him is just another lie used by those who are charter members of the ABC club, Anybody But Cannon.
And since 2004 what has Cannon done? He has voted for over 1,000 miles of fence and barriers. He has voted for thousands of new border patrol agents. He has voted for technology and UAVs on the border. He has voted for E-verify. He has voted for the National Guard on the border. He has voted for every tough measure that has been on the table to vote for.
Bottom line this entire campaign involves the I-hate-Chris-Cannon crowd and a world class opportunist (Chaffetz).
Cannon imposes fines and fees that total in the thousands of dollars and his guest worker visa applies to less than 2 million people. They also have to go through a health care screening and criminal back ground checks. Fail those, not pay any fines and you don't get a temporary visa. And no path to citizenship. You get to the back of the line on that.
Chaffetz's plan? NO fines! No background checks! No health care screenings! Nothing! And it applies to 20 million people. How is that getting tough on the issue? That is the loosest guest worker amnesty visa ever proposed.
And considering the realities of immigration his visa would be the green light for massive illegal immigration. Go to America illegally and get Jason Chaffetz's amnesty guest worker visa. You don't have to pass background checks, health care screenings or even pay a fine. Just show up and get a visa.
And he wants to create a 2nd class citizenship. So he is planning on giving them citizenship, just not full citizenship. AMNESTY!
On the issue of Illegal immigration, there is only one definition of illegal. Illegal is illegal. By its very definition, someone is getting away with what they shouldn't and it is always at the expense of someone else. One can not say it doesn't hurt anyone else. It does. Cost the USA plenty in cost.
We have tried amnesty before, but then didn't close the borders. So we have another 12-20 million here illegally.
How can you move 12-20 million in front of every other legal person that is waiting or wants to apply legally to come here? It has taken almost 5 years to get my wife from a foreign country here legally. Millions from her country would love to come legally, why reward illegals before those trying legally. Get this, only my wife was approved , not her brother, mother, father , uncles or aunts or friends. if she had had children and they were to old they wouldn't have qualified to come either.
With illegals they break all the rules, bring themselves and as many as possible both extended family and friends. The law breakers are rewarding several generations illegally.
Thank you Mr. Cannon for being consistent. That's a stark contrast to your opponent Mr Chaffetz. I know that I can look Cannon in the eye and get it straight - no wishy washy stands.
You have given a real tough line in the sand about amnesty but you haven't bothered to listen to what Chaffetz is saying. You are stuck in the past man! You are going off of what Chaffetz said in the convention. This is the new and improved Chaffetz. This is the guy trying to appeal to the primary voters.
Chaffetz is offering a visa to everyone in America illegally. That is up to 30 million of them if Bear-Sterns is correct. 30 million illegal aliens get the Chaffetz Guest worker visa.
And the best part is, Chaffetz doesn't require a fee, a criminal background check, not even a health screening. I mean nothing! They just get the visa.
And what problem is Chaffetz solving?
Remember when Bush first proposed his guest worker visa, which was MUCH tougher than Chaffetz's? Remember how illegal immigration tripled! Chaffetz makes Bush look like Scrooge on this one.
No fines, no fees, no criminal background checks, no health screenings. Just a job sponsor. Hey, give me $500 and I'll get you a forged document that says you work for the Pope.
S-N-O-O-K-E-R-E-D!
Oh, and Cannon having a "perfect" record on immigration? Right. Just go watch the KUED debate - it's online - and watch Mr Cannon dodge the direct question of why he missed an important vote on immigration but was there for the vote before and the vote after. So he could claim a "perfect record", of course.
Now we can sit back and wait for the Cannon supporters to cry either amnesty or concentration camps. Whatever. Voters are smarter than that.
Too bad we're NOT the sheeple you love to portray us as, but actually thinking folks and there are a LOT of us that think it's time for Chris to retire.
Do not allow anybody who can't PROVE legal U.S. residency (Citizenship, current visa ETC.) ANY benefit; no employment, no education, no housing, no medical care (beyond EMS...an ethical thing with me), absolutely nothing. Don't give them something to be here for and they won't come. Those already here will go back.
Just a thought.........
The politicians have never understood this and never will. The economy WILL come to a grinding hault.
If they succeed with deportation, good luck getting a house built, getting your yard installed, getting your produce harvested and getting a Big Mac for that matter!
Like I said.....DEAD ECONOMY!
Chris has a plan too, but his has been a work in progress for several terms now...AN UNSUCCESSFUL work in progress. Nice fence though...not built to specifications, but it's a nice fence and somewhat effective in San Diego, but what about the rest of the plan? I think it is impotent, and I think it perpetuates the problem.
I like the Chaffetz plan better.
