UHSAA makes final decision on realignment

Go Eagles.
Interesting realignment with Uintah. This past year, the St. George schools complained about having only three 4A teams playing with three 3A teams in Region 9. What is Uintah going to do to qualify for state. Do they automatically qualify? How will individual sports, such as wrestling, swimming, track and crosscountry, get their individuals to qualify for state? With wrestling, putting Uintah into a 4A region tournament without competing with that region for seeding purposes could be a nightmare for all parties involved. If anyone knows, please advise here. Good luck to everyone.
2007 records:
Bingham: 11-2,
Copper Hills: 4-7,
Kearns: 5-6,
Riverton: 6-5,
Taylorsville: 3-7,
West Jordan: 5-5,
New School: likely no more than 2-3 wins for the first few years.
This has all the makings of the most lopsided region in the state for football. Too bad Jordan or Alta isn't in the region. They are both in a very strong Region 4 (w/ American Fork and Lone Peak).
Good to see all 3 high schools in Orem (Mountain View, Orem, and Timpanogos) finally back in the same region!!
Way to break up a whole city and one of the best rivalries around.
That was the lamest move ever!
Well until the next re-alignment, let the fun begin.
I don't know how it could have been done better. You took into consideration the biggest issues - travel time, travel costs, and time out of school - and made the new alignment work in the best interests of student athletes.
Maybe some of the "traditional" school rivalries appear to be missing, but what an opportunity for new ones! And, the alignment makes for some great state tournament opportunities in all sports.
Thanks for all you do on behalf of student athletes in Utah!
This is a horrible piece of work.
Provo District is a two-school district where one school has received vast favoritism for decades at the expense of the other and now a community wide schism exists.
Let the coaches from the different sports that want to continue the rivalry play in non-league contests but this new alignment provides the opportunity for Provo to finally get Timpview off of its football schedule and the community perhaps can begin to heal (a bit)...
Anyway, the UHSAA had to divide up Utah County 4-A schools into two leagues of six school each, so that's as good as line as any to divide the Mason/Dixon of Utah County...

Would it be more competitive with Jordan or Alta in that region? Probably, but it's not happening between 2009-2013. I'm hoping that the rest of Region 3 will prove us all wrong and make the football games competitive.
On the flip side, being in a weak region may hobble whoever takes the football region title in Region 3. Winning easily in a weak region doesn't prepare a team for the playoffs very well. Even though lower ranked Region 2 teams won't make the playoffs, those who do may be better prepared.
The UHSAA isn't looking at football alone in deciding the regions. For example, Riverton football hasn't quite reached the level Bingham has but Riverton baseball seems to be very good. We'll just have to see how things pan out. (No pun intended, Miner fans).
What championship are you talking about?
Not sure what sport you are talking about. As I see it there are still powerhouses left in 2A in every sport. Just wondering what sport you are talking about.
Just because Manti, Richfield and ALA left you think that you get a state ring? Maybe baseball.
Anyways good luck backing up your comments
However, I think you either think too highly of Bingham or have too low an opinion of the rest of Region 3. Riverton may take a hit when the new school opens but considering that Bingham has gone through that process three times (with the opening of West Jordan, Copper Hills and Riverton, respectively) and didn't suffer tremendously from the experiences. When each of those schools took a significant portion of Bingham's student body, the sports Bingham was strong in at the time remained strong.
It's been a long, slow process for Bingham to go from 2-7 in football the year that West Jordan opened to being one of the best programs in the state, albeit with critics who would deny this. No program is without such critics, be it Skyline, Alta, Jordan, Bingham, or anyone I haven't mentioned for a lack of space.

Shift to the other league that is hit with Lone Peak, Alta, Brighton, Jordan... it makes no sense.
Then you have the Central league that has absolutely ZERO good teams, and the North league that has Davis walking through the daisies winning region championships in their sleep.
Why did the UHSAA all of a sudden change from the last proposal?
Wow.
