Thanks for keeping Skyline in 5A, it would be sad to see them drop to 4A from an
alumni perspective. The best football team in the history of the state should
stay in the highest classification.

Being a former coach, one tough thing the north 5A region will face with soccer
is no preseason games. A 16 game limit and a nine-team region, each school will
play the other home-and-home, which will be 16 games. That means the first game
of the season, about five days after selecting a team, will count towards
qualifying for state. For some, it could be okay, but if two of the top teams
meet in that first game, the region title may be on the line early. The other
regions in 5A will get a couple preseason games to get the bugs out.
Interesting realignment with Uintah. This past year, the St. George schools complained about having only three 4A teams playing with three 3A teams in Region 9. What is Uintah going to do to qualify for state. Do they automatically qualify? How will individual sports, such as wrestling, swimming, track and crosscountry, get their individuals to qualify for state? With wrestling, putting Uintah into a 4A region tournament without competing with that region for seeding purposes could be a nightmare for all parties involved. If anyone knows, please advise here. Good luck to everyone.

Now wait a second, wow... in 1986 WX went 1 and 8 in football and still went to
the State Playoffs, so give a little respect. There's still hope, even for

Region 8 will be the weakest football region in 3A, 4A, and 5A hands down. By
the way, why put Timpview and Provo in different regions, that makes no sense.

Do you think that Bingham football is happy with the new Region 3? How many
years before they lose a region game?

Bingham: 11-2,
Copper Hills: 4-7,
Kearns: 5-6,
Riverton: 6-5,
Taylorsville: 3-7,
West Jordan: 5-5,
New School: likely no more than 2-3 wins for the first few years.
This has all the makings of the most lopsided region in the state for football. Too bad Jordan or Alta isn't in the region. They are both in a very strong Region 4 (w/ American Fork and Lone Peak).

The only sport Davis really has been all that in recently has been basketball.
They're not the dominant force some people think they are. Unless of
course you live in Kaysville.

Why single out Woods Cross? Yes, their football team has struggled. But look at
men's and women's soccer. Both have excellent records over the years.
The boy's basketball team made two consecutive playoff appearances and
softball went to state this year as well. Maybe do a little research before
assuming that all Woods Cross teams are horrible. With that train of thought,
they better also move Granger and West down to 2A. Granger has had less success
that Woods Cross. Thanks for the thought though.

Davis' annual strength has always been football and track/field. I'm
sure each HS have their strengths so I believe it all balanced out just fine.
They just need to hone their skills to defeat against their own
"Goliaths".

What was UHSAA thinking? Anybody who has lived in Provo for the past 20 years
knows that breaking up the Provo-Timpview rivalry is an impossibility! This is
definitely going to significantly impact ticket sales at both schools... and
possibly a few other schools in Utah Valley in retaliation. Do they think
Springville-Provo is the new rivalry, or something?????

Since no one from down south has commented let me say thanks for leaving region
9 alone. makes for great competion. no 4a school wants to loose to a 3a school
and the 3a schools have nothing to loose in playing a 4a school. we all want to
be the giant slayers. after pine view, dixie, and snow canyon dominated 4a in
their first year, i'm sure they wouldn't want to go back to 3a
competition

It is interesting to have districts, etc comment for months and then change so
dramatically and say this is "final". A common sense suggestion for
4A-have Uintah, the third place team from region nine and the the two weakest
teams, or alternate them from the other four regions be the first round of the
state tournament. Then 2-7 teams are going instead of 6-4 teams.

region? Can someone please explain to me how these people justify their actions?
Really silly, and I'd like to know where we can fight to block this.
I'm a class of '02 and live no where near Provo now, but this still

Man this realignment sucks hard, our rivalry is out the door. Nobody can stop us
anyway, but that rivalry was the best in utah, alta vs bingham rivals? Hahaha
funny but timpview vs. provo is way bigger than that.

Why is Timpview and Provo not in the same region. Time will tell if Region 4
becomes the super region. (Lone Peak has done very well in football). Skyline
has the best football coach in the state. They could have 300 kids enrolled and
he'd still find the heart in the kids to win.

Congratulations UHSAA.
I don't know how it could have been done better. You took into consideration the biggest issues - travel time, travel costs, and time out of school - and made the new alignment work in the best interests of student athletes.
Maybe some of the "traditional" school rivalries appear to be missing, but what an opportunity for new ones! And, the alignment makes for some great state tournament opportunities in all sports.

Yeah Timpview not traveling 2 minutes to Provo was a great move. That is really
going to hellp the athletes and school district with their travel time and
costs.

Wow, some of these alignments have little or no resemblance to the ones that
were discussed at the hearing on May 6. Take a good look at how much changed in
what was West Central, South Central and South and the final regions 2, 3, and
4. Major changes. I wonder what the rational was.

I don't think you'll be taking shots at Woods Cross for very long.
Don't forget the best high school football coach in the state is now there,
Fred Fernandes. He built Northridge from ground zero into a state power.
He'll win games at Woods Cross too.

Boo Hoo for Provo and Timpview to see their rivalry somewhat end because of
realignment. Back in the 70's and 80's Viewmont and Bountiful had one
of the top rivalries in the state if not the best. That to ended thanks to
realignment. Even though Viewmont and Bountiful still play each other in
football and basketball, it is not much more then just a non-conference game.
I'm for keeping the neighborhood rivalries alive.

As a Big GVHS Fan it is a relief to have those 4 Schools out of our way to get
to another Campionship it should be a shu in this year go Bulldogs another 2A

Some rivalries are healthy while others are not...what happened in the football
game between Timpview and Provo was SICK and WRONG and many in the community
actually anxiously await to see the both schools move on to other regions.
Provo District is a two-school district where one school has received vast favoritism for decades at the expense of the other and now a community wide schism exists.
Let the coaches from the different sports that want to continue the rivalry play in non-league contests but this new alignment provides the opportunity for Provo to finally get Timpview off of its football schedule and the community perhaps can begin to heal (a bit)...
Anyway, the UHSAA had to divide up Utah County 4-A schools into two leagues of six school each, so that's as good as line as any to divide the Mason/Dixon of Utah County...

happy with the new Region 3? Honestly, no. I think they don't really
care. The decision is out of their hands so they'll take what they get.
Would it be more competitive with Jordan or Alta in that region? Probably, but it's not happening between 2009-2013. I'm hoping that the rest of Region 3 will prove us all wrong and make the football games competitive.

"Wow!", do you really think Bingham is going to dominate in EVERY
sport once the new realignment takes effect? I don't think so. Granted,
historically, new schools tend to take a few years to get their programs going.
So I'll not try to argue that point.

Then you have the Central league that has absolutely ZERO good teams, and the North league that has Davis walking through the daisies winning region championships in their sleep.
