Fuel costs push writer to try public transportation

Since I live in the 90-95% of Utah that isn't served by Public (or even
Private) transportation, taking a bus or riding a train just isn't a
possibility. Hitching a ride may be about the only option available, beyond
just not going anywhere. Luckily, I've been telecommuting since the 90s.

Last August UTA took away the bus service to Canyon Rim. I usually drive my
car, but occasionally took the bus to work at the university. What good does it
do to have a bus/TRAX pass when you have to walk several miles to catch the bus.
I know that a lot of the seniors in the neighborhood used to take the bus, but
now must find other transportation when they need to go somewhere. They
can't walk the great distances that are necessary to catch the bus. The
TRAX is great for those who come from the south, but there is no public
transportation for those of us on the east bench. Even with high gas prices or
smoggy no-drive days in winter, I still have to drive my car.

in March of 2006, I started using my bike and TRAX for my sole commute. My bike
riding has increased over time and now ride 15-18 miles a day. I LOVE IT. I
use NO gas for my 36 mile daily commute. I have an hour of exercise each day,
coupled with time to ponder, comtemplate, pseudo meditate. I have grown to love
my bike time. Gas could return to $1/gallon and I would not give up my bike
time. As for TRAX, I talk to everybody I can. Fascinating people on the train.
I would think this article writer would want to do the same, since what people
are thinking plays heavily on her profession.
