I say give this team and Sloan another run, and go from there - and I'm glad Larry did.
You should be more like Magnus, we may disagree, but atleast we can have an intelligent conversation.
RE: magnus: There is plenty of blame to go around.
I blame sloan for his coaching and rigid adherence to his system and game time routines. Underutilizing the three, Underutilizing horny. not defending the three.
I don't blame the players much because they did what they are capable of doing or allowed to do in the system.
I do blame the management for not putting the team together right to win championships.
Other organizations can seem to do over and over again. I hate mention the lakers, but they did in the seventies they did in the eighties they did again a few years ago and are on on the verge of doing it again.
they snag the first pick from the jazz which became magic johnson.
they snag gasol.
They find a way to get star plyers like wilt kareem shaq etc.
They just seem to find away of making it happen.
They don't sign other teams casts offs like Hart and wish and hope.
You are clueless. Boozer is better since he got here. So is Memo. We have drafted D-Will, Brewer, CJ, and Millsap and they are all making waves in the NBA. AK also got better and was "the star" until he got all the cash and he became convinced everything should revolve around him. His ego was his downfall. Most talented players just shine when they get more help. AK melted and his brain imploded. It was a cultural thing to some extent I think--not coaching.
Anyway, our coaching staff has multiple talented players we drafted all dramatically improving their games and making a name for themselves. Show me one team that "hits" on every draft pick.
The Spurs blew theirs on Taigo Splitter last year and they can not even get him to come play for them.
Your arguments don't hold up.
"Sloan Hater" is the same person writing about 90% of the anti-sloan comments here. He posts under different names to try to give the appearance there is more people that agree with him.
He is one negative nasty dude with no legitimate solutions and alot of complaints. Generally a toxic person.
That's an interesting point. It looks like it is valid on the surface but when we dig a little deeper it is a little shaky.
First regarding "system" and three of your beefs with it, in reverse order...
-"Not defending the 3" - The Jazz where the 6th best team in the league in opposing team three point percentage this year, that doesn't happen by letting other teams shoot.
-"Not utilizing Horny more" - horny was second on the team in minutes played dring the '96-'98 seasons and was the second leading scorer, I'm not sure how much more usage his broken body could have taken. horney was the consumate team player, if he thought shooting the ball more would have been better for the team he would have done it.
-"Underutilizing the three" - The Jazz do shoot fewer threes than almost anyone in the league, but they also have one of the most efficient offenses in the league every year. Just so youknow "efficiency" means that the Jazz get more points per posession than other teams in the league, and they do it without shooting threes.

One thing I find interesting about the "putting together the right team to win championships" argument, is that it is not like every team in the league isn't trying to find the next Magic or MJ or build a championship calliber team. I mean even if you do get an elite player like Lebron or Kobe it is fairly obvious that you need more than that to get to the Championship level.
The Gasol trade was an inside job, no way in a million years that trade happens on merit alone. Same with the Garnett trade. Does it seem funny at all to you that two of the most lopsided trades in history sent great players from crappy teams to two of the most storied, biggest market, franchises in the NBA? That's not a coincidence brother.
I think the Jazz are on the championship track. Sloans system works and Williams is the cornerstone, he has the talent and the competitive fire to lead a championship team and I think that when you look at the talent backing him up right now and the season they had this year the only thing they lacked was consistency/experience.
As for the reason the Lakers are always finding a way to get the biggest star players and repeatedly build championship teams, you don't have to look any farther than that big Hollywood sign on the hill. Can't fault Sloan or the Jazz brass for not having that on their side.
That list of players someone put up saying they didn't get better playing for Sloan is bogus. Hornacek played great for the Jazz; Sloan's system got the most out of him when he was well past his physical prime. Raja Bell...who was he before he came to the Jazz? Nobody. Why did the Suns want him so much? Hmmm... The couple of players you can legitimately say didn't get better also didn't really try to work with Sloan. I could go on down the list just like that.
I'm not saying he's perfect--just that he's a fine coach who has done more with less over the years than just about anybody else could have, and Jazz ownership is smart enough to know a good thing when they've got it.
Nobody hates to lose more than Jerry Sloan. How do I know? I see him every offseason & know personally how much it pains him. It's not about the money or accolades. He prides himself in trying to do the most with what Miller & Oconner give him...I'd say he's done a heck of a job. Shame on you who think consistant playoff appearances isnt a good job.
"You have coached professionally before" I guess that obviously means past tense. It did not take me long to figure out why either.
You elude to "having a secret way for the players to vote on Sloan". Yes, likability/player picked is how all coaches should be selected. Right! How ridiculous can you possibly get!!!!
By your standard George Karl would be the best coach in the NBA--players really like him. Players love any coach who make them work less and let them shoot and play undisciplined "street" basketball. That is until the twilight of their career/they mature and they realize they have won NOTHING and then they want a coach with some discipline and system with a chance to win.
As far as you judging whether Sloans "in-game" adjustments are good or not...well I guess we can evaluate your logic on "secret coach selection by player vote" and decide for ourselves whether you are a credible judge of that or not.
The Jazz won two and Sloan did it with Williams, Boozer, and Memo. I like Williams over Parker, but last time I checked the other two are better players.
Popovich is Sloans biggest fan. He made his mark by coaching with a demanding style he took from Sloan.
I just wish all the naysayers would have an inteligent argument. Don't post if you are going to show just how dumb we are becoming in America.
Please someone tell me what coach is going to do better with this group of players, and how they are going to do it? I just want to know. You all seem to have an answer.

Brave prediction. Especially since you can pretty much chalk the Jazz up for a winning season every year (I think you take that for granted, why don't you go ask a Knicks fan how it feels not to have that) and 15 out of 16 teams that make the playoffs next year will lose.
@ Sloan=Zero championship
I would hardly call the Jazz playoff runs this year or last year "fizzling out". The Jazz where the third best team in the playoffs this year (maybe second), go ask the Lakers they'll tell you.
@ All Sloan Haters
I think it is funny that the same people that blame the Jazz lack of championships on Sloan turn around in the same post and talk about how players win championships and the Jazz don't have the right players.
WHICH IS IT?!?!?
It can't be all Sloans fault and all the players fault, so which is it?
And if it is both then how come substandard players with substandard coaching were within 2 points + one game of the NBA championship TWICE!!!!
Pathetic bandwagoners.
