Now if we would only realize That the NBA is exactly about the same thing, 'not sports, but money'. Then we could relax and see who the next winner will be without any real expectations about fairness or integrity!

The kid sang his heart out and was trying to win... he's amazing and smart...I think AI should limit participation to people over eighteen...then when they manipulate the outcome, it won't be so hard on the kids...and the kids will get more of their education completed before they hit the big time. David Cook is great too. It wasn't his fault... This has been the most interesting season.

Yes! That's show biz. Excellent column! Need I say more?

Smart? | 8:02 a.m. May 29, 2008
David Archuleta is many things, but "smart" is NOT one of them! "Gosh!" repeated ad nauseam does NOT indicate intelligence. David Cook manifests signs of intelligence, which is why he beat out David "Gosh" Archuleta. Oh, and he has a better voice than Archie, too. But don't ever claim Archuleta is smart!

I totally agree 100% CMS!!!! AND also Melody. Its funny how the story about David C's brother planning to go to the final, but his health had gone down hill so he could'nt make it, came out a couple of days before the final. David C's family is in my prayers, and I am very sorry, BUT I do believe that was to get a few "pity" votes. Simon goes on TV the day before bashing David A, and the story about David C's brother dying comes out the same time, YEA thats fair!!!! NOT!!! Then at the final when Simon apologized to David C...that was totally a slap in the face to David A. I'm not saying the votes were wrong or David C didn't win (its funny when I dialed David A's number a few times it went to David C...) Its just wrong what the producers and Simon did to David A. WHO CARES if his dad is a monster, although I don't believe that, the show is a singing contest....The best man DIDN'T win.
To All Archie Fans: | 8:58 a.m. May 29, 2008
Im an Archie fan and I thought this interesting article generated a lot of different perspectives. I agree that its time to move forward.

The results indicate that Cook had more than three times the number of music downloads compared to Archie. The best thing we can do to support Archie is to booster his sales by downloading his music and buying his CDs. Im looking forward to buying his CDs. Does anyone know if the downloads are the same music as the CDs that will be released this Summer?

I disagree with you. Dont be fooled by David Archuletas demeanor. He may come across as awkward and lost for words on the media; however, he is only 17 years old. Who wouldnt be nervous on TV with 30 million viewers? With age and experience David A. will improve his interviewing techniques.

I measure his intelligence by his achievements and the choices he has made. He is runner up on American Idol. He won the Junior Star Search title in 2003 at age 12. He is an amazing vocalist and sings with maturity beyond his years, a child prodigy. The kid gets straight As in school. David A. is continuing his education because he understands that it is important as another option to a music career. Contrary to your statement, David Archuleta is very intelligent and wise at such a young age. Perhaps your judgment of character is not too smart.

To Smart: At least I didn't trash D. Cook...you trashed David A. You're not too nice are you. Both Davids have class. D.A's dad is not a monster. Sheesh.
Competition | 10:56 a.m. May 29, 2008
American Idol is not a singing only competition. If it was based on voice and voice alone then David A should have won hands down but it is is about more than singing. It is about overall performance and there is no way that anyone can convince me that David A is a better performer than David C. David A has a better voice but by no means was he a better performer. Anybody hear when David C sang Little Sparrow? What a terrible song but he made is so you could actually listen to it. And to my knowledge David C never forgot the lyrics to the songs he was singing and David A did 3 times. David A is a smart kid because he gets good grades but just because he is smart doesn't mean that he has good people skills. I truely feel that the right David won and I am a Mormon from Utah. Fact of the matter is that David C is a more complete and better performer. But you give David A the experience that David C has and the outcome would probably be different.

My goodness, you Mormons are plagued by hero-worship! You think David Archuleta can do no wrong just as you think your Church leaders can do no wrong. You literally "idolize" and "worship" these people in an unhealthy way! Archie is an awkward, not-too-bright teenager with a LITTLE bit of vocal talent. He is FAR FROM a musical talent because he doesn't play near the range of instruments that many of the others do, and not even as close to as good as the others, especially David Cook! It is only your religious wishful thinking that clouds your ability to see the truth about Archuleta.

I cannot understand how anyone can stand watching David Archuleta. It is downright annoying to watch him sing, closing his eyes and straining at every note. His face looks like a little kid crying because he has a boo-boo. He is so short, I am embarrassed for him watching him stand next to Seacrest (who is short enough!). I think all the comments that were made about him were right on - he is a little kid. He looks like it. He acts like it. And he needs to grow up a few more years before he can be taken seriously.

i love david archuleta since day 1 to final, i know you that and you know in your heart who really one by voting, honesty is the best to stay in this business and i'm pretty sure little david will be a giant.

Not all of us are Mormons and we DO NOT worship David Archuleta. We know he is not perfect (nobody is). We appreciate him for his music and good=-natured spirit. YES, David Archuleta is very bright and he has a lot of common sense for a 17 year old. YES, he is very talented. How else could he win in Star Search and be runner up in American Idol? Why do you people insist on putting him down? What does that say about you? I think you have issues you need to work on. You are the one that doesn't sound very bright at all.
Mormon American Idolatry | 2:03 p.m. May 29, 2008
Man, rather than appreciating what happens to those who are talented and are Mormons, it seems that there is nothing that Mormons would like to be other than needing to chill out!

They're becoming to sound like that they are idol worshippers.

Anything that doesn't go the Mormon's way is the injustice to them, and that they are defrauded and that it's unfair, it's rigged, it's this, it's that.

Learn to accept will you???

I know that it's part of the culture to be non-accepting other than your own kind,

But for once, learn to be an accepting people even though it may disagree with you.

It's hard, I know, because it's a culture that has been ingrained for more than 150 years. But hey, your former prophet, Hinckley wanted the church to change, to be more of an accepting people, so, you go and listen to him, because that's what you're supposed to be good at anyway. I.e. to always listen to your leaders.

In this case, your leader is absolutely right.

So, go and listen to your prophet, his words, "We need to be an embracing people".

ALso, let go of this Archie Idolatry.

How old are you? Are you 10 years old? Your comments sound ridiculously stupid, especially about David Archuletas height. He has no control over his height. Why would you be embarrassed about that? You sound like a stupid kid. Grow up and stay out of this adult conversation.
Anonymous | 3:23 p.m. May 29, 2008
To Grow Up,

ditto, hypocrite.

Height is absolutely important when we are talking about a public figure who is expected to perform as an entertainer. David A's short, stumpy appearance was awkward and embarrasing. That is why so many people made comments about it. Get a clue.

Your description of David Archuleta is only your LOPSIDED perspective. Obviously all the girls that are cheering and screaming for him dont share your opinion. Did you see the video on his homecoming visit with thousands of girls cheering and screaming with excitement over David A? Have you been watching American Idol weekly whenever he appears on stage, so many girls start screaming over him.

So lame brain. What do you have to say about that? Now, go back and play with your little toys and leave the adults alone.

I have watched idol all seasons and I finally got it figured out that it is a scam and I think it is also rigged, they do stuff as they go to manipulate who will win and it is somebody that they want to win at the expense of the other contestants.Idol should be ashamed of themselves.Count me out...........

To Grow Up,

You rant like a spoiled child who didn't get her way.

The fact is, regardless of your bias, David Cook beat out Archuleta as the American Idol. Nothing you say can change that fact. Deal with it.

Why are you changing the subject now that you lost your last argument?

Allow me to correct you. Im an adult (not a child) and I still believe David Archuleta is a WINNER with or without the American Idol Title. With his talent and intelligence, he is going to have a bright and rewarding future.

Its you who is the big LOSER!

OK KIDS KNOCK IT OFF AND PLAY NICE! David A. was indeed the better singer hands down, David C. will make a few albums and that will probably be it.
The difference will be that David A fans range in age from 5 to 100 and will outsell Cook in the long run. His young fans and parents adore him as do the older folk. He said he will be making music to suit his young fans but still make music like we have seen him do on AI which really appeal to the older group.
He has this ability to make so many people happy where as DC will appeal to the middle of the road rockers in which the world has so many already.
No need to argue guys, the Cookies got what they wanted he earned a title. Cook really wont change what you see is what you get. As for the Archies, they will indeed get what we want when he cuts his first album, it goes gold, and we get to watch this fantastic young man grow and turn into one of the greatest singers to have walked our planet! Cant wait!!!

American Idol is a great show to watch season after season, my family and I enjoy it very much. The right person did definitely win. David Cook was the better and most consistent singer each week, while David Archuleta was also a very talented young man, which deserved to be runner up in the competition, and will also do very well in his career. Thank you American Idol for a great season, and best of luck to both Davids.
