Would also like to add that I am glad to see the infants and young children returned to their mothers, as there was no evidence shown that they were in immediate danger. Not so sure about the 14-17 year old girls, although it was apparently in dispute how old they were anyway. Maybe some of the women who are now out of the ranch and have rented homes and found jobs will decide to stay out..that can be one possible silver lining. Will be interesting to see what happens to the kids in foster care that aren't matched to biological parents...who will they return them to??

I just don't understand how anyone can think it's ok to let the children return. They are breaking the law, they are abusing children. Young girls are married off at too young of an age, boys are taught that they should marry younger girls, teaching them to become attracted to girls that are CHILDREN! I hope that the children can be protected. The women that really want their children back can leave the compound and become part of a real society. I hope that the government breaks up all these groups for the sake of the children! For the record, I am LDS and I just don't see how anyone can support the continual rape, brainwashing, and abuse of CHILDREN! Its SICK! Help the children, thats all I want. Save the CHILDREN.

I have a TON of mixed feelings about all of this. I tried asking some questions to ppl who identified themselves as women part of the FLDS group, but never rec'd any answers. I asked very respectfully, I should note. I FEEL like the FLDS want us to believe everything that they say, but when asked a question respectfully so I can better understand their situation, nobody was able, or cared to answer me. I have researched and read everything that I could find about what is happening. I have read all the newpaper articles I could find, I have read the "bishops list" (which I have questions about), I have watched all videos about the situation. I have done, to the best of my knowledge, as much research as I can. I feel very torn about the whole situation. Everything about it makes me sad.

How is Texas going to undo what they have done? These children have been abused by the very people that are supposed to care. There are some serious procedural questions that must be answered. It apears that this administrative agency broke the law and denied basic rights of families and religious choices. The whole agency should be investigated and reorganized. This smells too much like WACO. Government intervention made things so much worse and destroyed lives. This whole process needs investigated and those who breaak the law punished. These families, although different, are Americans and have constitutional rights which must be upheld or the rest of us are in a world of hurt.

I am the one being judgemental? Have I called anyone a child abused or thrown around the word Nazi flippantly?
I call abomination abomination based on the words of Jacob.
I guess you can call the Texas ruling activist. However what do you want judges to do? Adsolutely nothing? If you want us to throw out the constitution, sepeartion of powers and give unlimited power to the executive branch than so be it. However admit openly that you hate the constitution and do not try to say that those of us who abhor what was done in California but support waht was done in Texas by judges are inconsistent.
The analogy is one of many false and misleading ones people have brought up.
Personally I think that statutory rape laws should exist. However, I still believe people are innocent until proven guilty and that you can not punish people because you dislike their belief system.

No teaching of the FLDS advocates attraction to pre-bubescent children.
Beyond this just because someone breaks a law does not mean we should take away their children. Should we take away the children of everyone who tells their child it is ok to speed? What about removing the children of those who use radar detectors?
Anyway, if you read the actual ruling you will see that none of the children in question were ages 14-17 or at least the state had not proven any of them were. The ruling only deals with the children of the 38 mothers who brought the suit.

The problem is that the child protection laws weren't written to hold a community such as FLDS to account. The laws require the Texas DFPS prove "immediate" danger to the physical health and welfare of the children that requires "urgent" removal.

Girls are taught from birth that they are to be the servants of men -- their fathers, their husbands and their prophets. They are taught to "keep sweet" and give themselves "mind, body and soul" to whichever man is their priesthood head. They learn early on that the more children they have, the greater their heavenly glory.

Boys face the prospect that soon after puberty they will be encouraged or forced out of the community, or they will grow up to be criminals, practicing polygamy in the name of God and possibly becoming sexual predators by accepting without question any child brides they are assigned.

For both boys and girls, there is no chance to dream of anything beyond what the prophet tells them. And that is INHERENTLY ABUSIVE.

We need to change the laws so these kids' rights can be protected, without trampling on the rights of others. Not sure how - wish I knew.

Travesty.

Send the 38 to live with the judges who made the decision. That should resolve the problem and in quick order.
Austin judges tend to be liberal. Enough said.
