Race tight between Chaffetz and Cannon

I spoke with a Chaeffetz campaign worker and they said they were aware of the
Australia problem but that it took place before he became a Republican. They
personally weren't happy with it but were willing to forgive him for it. I
think that should be good enough to resolve the issue.

I won't hold my breath waiting for some big scandal out of Australia. This
is typical Chris Cannon. I don't know a lot of people on the Chaffetz
campaign, but I've known a bunch of people who helped with previous
campaigns to challenge Cannon. This Australia scandal is straight out of the
Cannon playbook.
He won't make the allegations himself. You'll never see them surface in legitimate media sources. But he'll have his staff put out an anonymous whisper campaign to discredit the opponent.
What is the source of this Australia scandal rumor? Is there even one name attached to it? Is there one shred of evidence anywhere? Wouldn't you think if it were true that NuSkin executives would have donated to anyone but Chaffetz? There's no way they would donate money to someone they thought to be dishonest. I call BS on this rumor. Cannon is simply using the most unethical means possible to hold on to his power.
But this is probably just the beginning. The more of a threat Chaffetz becomes, the more outrageous the allegations will become.

So the Chaeffetz people get to run on and on with lies, distortions and
anonymous smears on Cannon. Now they don't like anonymous source stories.
That is pretty funny.
I did see that the comments from within the Huntsman administration had the name of Russell Skousen attached. So that is not anonymous. It took a few weeks for that cabinet level secretary to surface. I am equally as confident that this will as well. I do know for a fact that a friend of mine worked at Nu Skin and all they knew is that Jason left very abrubtly. That I can personnaly vouch for. He said that the reason Jason left was kept very hush, hush. That likely means that they have some legal agreement to pretend like it didn't happen. Just because they are pretending like it didn't doesn't mean that it didn't.
If Jason did not hire strippers in Australia then he needs to come out and clarify it. As with any controversy this should put an end to it. He needs to release any and all documents he may have signed with Nu Skin when they seperated. If he has nothing to hide, then prove it.

I am SO glad that Chaffetz's deplorable past actions during his brief and
dismal stint in State Government is coming up so often in these forums!
I worked in a position in State Government where I was near him during the transition and my personal experience and impression of him was that this "rookie" was too much of a know-it-all without the actual knowledge or experience. He caused many mistakes and significant staffing losses (specifically the 33 at DCED) that truly hurt our State. Are we past it yet? Perhaps, but it has taken its toll on our State, especially on the State government employees.
TO THE VOTERS: please dont let a phony, artificial, egotistical, self-motivated, rookie think he can pull off another manipulation so he can get validation and power. He is simply NOT the best person for the job.

12 years ago I was a huge supporter of Cannon, but as time has passed we have
seen Chris become entwined with the Power Mongers in DC. Mr. Cannon originally
stated in a Utah State Party Central Committee that "I hate DC, I will only
serve 2-3 terms and come home", this is just one of the first lies he told
Party faithful. As Chris spends more time in DC he has become power hungry and
it seems that he will stop at nothing to become the emperor with no clothes. Mr.
Cannon is losing republican support in the convention because he is being
exposed for what he really stands for. Most delegates have been lied to and
spoken down to directly by the Congressman. I'm not one of the "throw
the bums out" group, but it is time that we in the most CONSERVATIVE
district in Congress need to vote for a true conservative as our Representative.
I support Jason Chaffetz because he is the ONLY one that took a position on
subjects and explained his ideas to the delegates without "playing
politics".

I love how Jason Chaffetz is single-handedly responsible for every staff
departure and firing from the Governor's office - as if the Governor had no
idea! Was Jason Chaffetz actually governing this state at the time? Do you
honestly believe Governor Huntsman had no idea Jason was going to fire all those
people? Please. Stop insulting our intelligence.
I would hope that some people working for the state have some friction with the executive branch - the two have conflicting goals. Bureaucrats always seek to grow government while elected officials have pressure to shrink it. And when a governor has bad news to deliver, he doesn't deliver it himself. He gets the Chief of Staff to do it. It doesn't concern me one bit that some state staffers didn't like the chief of staff.

Every single comment on here is anonymous because the "desert snooze"
allows it. It doesn't matter what you write in the little box to the upper
left because there is nothing to guarantee that someone else doesn't use
the same identifier. It sounds like we only have a handfull of opinions present
on the board: Chaffetz - GOOD, Cannon - BAD or Cannon - GOOD, Chaffetz - BAD.
Perhaps we only have a handful of commenters producing all these comments.

To the James (or not), good point but why require it now. Some of us have used
the same moniker for the entire time, which becomes our own persona. You are
right that so many others are just reposting with different names. In any case,
the fact remains that the smear has been going on for a year or so now. I have
watched as anonymous poster have made some incredibly horrible claims against
Cannon. Now Chaeffetz is being subject to the same treatment and suddenly we
want an end to anonymity. What, the Chaeffetz people want to play by civil
rules?

James' allegation that Jason Chaffetz was fired by Huntsman is a bald-faced
lie.
Ask Mr. Huntsman.
And to those who insist that we should keep Cannon around for his seniority, I think I have had enough of his senior moments.
Remember, "I seek not for power, but to pull it down." That means we should be exercising the Constitutional term limits that were built into the systems and vote these people out when they begin to forget why they were sent. Earning seniority is not why we send people to Congress.

To those who think I related in any way to the campaign manager for Jason
Chaffetz's campaign, I must say I got a good chuckle about it. I chose my
screen name from the movie "Back to the Future" because 1) I want to
go back to a time when our liberties are defended by those whom we elected to
represent us, and that can now only happen in the future, and 2) Whenever Doc
makes a discovery that surprises even him, (for me it was discovering Jason
Chaffetz) he expresses his amazement by saying, "Great Scott!). But that
was an interesting theory (or accusation or whatever it was) to presume that
someone who's last name was Scott would actually include that in their
screen name. My passion for getting Jason elected is probably the only other
thing that Mr. Scott (which according to a couple of posters on this board is
Jason's campaign manager's last name I guess) and I have in common.

Trenton, so Jason and inner circle are called into a meeting with the Governor.
The Governor points out that they need to make changes in order to move ahead
with the agenda and then he informs everyone that Jason has agreed to step down.
This was right after he had his foot surgery and was put on leave for about a
month. This was right after a large number of staffers and some legislative
leaders quietly informed the Governor they could not work with Jason. This was
right after a couple key administration leaders left in disgust.
Call it what you will.
Reminds me of sitcom episode. A German company buys the factory, does an evaluation of the entire staff then announces that in the "restructuring the following employees will no longer be needed." Sadly, the hero of our show is on the only one to be "restructured" out of a job.
If you feel better knowing that Jason was "restructured" out, fine. The rest of the world knows what it is. In fact, Federal agencies will ask "if you have ever been fired or mutually agreed to leave." It is one and the same.
Take comfort in your symantics.

I have been a past supporter of Chris Cannon, but no longer.
He voted FOR 1 Trillion dollars in increased spending for the Prescription Drug Plan. More Socialism and more debt.
He voted FOR No Child Left behind. A HUGH federal government power grab away from local control.
He SPONSERED bills to give some illegal aliens in state college tuition and federal pell grants.
We know that Congressman Cannon no longer listens to us.
Lets give Jason Chaffetz a chance and if he does the same we should vote him out too.
We do not owe Chris Cannon anything. He "works" for us the taxpayers. He has failed us.

The trickeries of Washington DC. You are wrong on the Medicare Prescription
plan, it was much more than $1 trillion. Attached to it was also the HSA, which
has been saving hundreds of millions for about 10 million Americans. That is the
trade off.
Maybe that is the lesson of the day. With as many interests as DC has you almost never see a 'clean' bill go through. Meaning one bill that has just one subject. In order to get votes you have to add things. In order to gain some votes the Health Savings Accounts were added. Like it or not, that is a serious piece of reform that is one of the fastest growing forms of insurance. It is working, not perfect but working.
When it comes to immigration reform you are also going to have to accept balancing acts. You get something tough on enforcement, you get something weak on visa reform. That is how Washington has worked for two-centuries now. And something that Chaffetz and his supporters simply don't get. We don't live in a dictatorship. One member of Congress cannot rule the world. You have to work within the rules you're given.

As a state Republican delegate, I voted for Chaffetz. Cannon, besides
consistently supporting pro-illegal immigration despite vehement spoken and
written denials, is an unabashed supporter of trade agreements that lead to loss
of sovereignty and rule of law under our Constitution. He has never warned of
the dangers of the NAU and SPP, which have the backing of the RNC and Bush (and
McCain). He is a beneficiary of the broken system that disincentivizes
producing workers thru taxation, then curries favors by doling back to states
and communities tax dollars that should have remained in the states to begin
with. Cannon will never oppose the Federal Reserve's unchecked power. It
is time for him to retire.
Cannon has the slickest talent I know of speaking with silky tongue to distort his position. He is a big, reckless spender and proponent of business as usual. He will do nothing to check the unconstitutional excesses and bankrupting of our currency by the federal government.
Let's give Chaffetz a chance, and hope he won't become corrupted too.

The only people who post here in favor of Cannon are his staffers.
Cannon has basically no actual supporters. He has just continued to win up to now because of inertia- people usually just blindly vote for the incumbent.

And normally a Democrat has no chance in the 3rd District. When one candidate has such a hideous act exposed that changes everything. How many conservative, religious voters want a Congressman who did those things? That is the fear.
