We took foster/adopt classes from the State Child Services in our state (not
Texas or Utah), before we adopted one of our children. The classes were
manditory if adopting through the state social services and mainly a waste of
time. Many things said by the CPS workers bothered us during those classes, but
there was one thing that sickend both my husband and I more than anything. It
took place when we had the class on why children are removed from parents.
during the class the social workers bragged and joked about how easy it is to
get children away from their parents and then listed the things the CPS and
Courts do to purposely make it very hard for parents to get them back. They
admitted (bragged I should say) that they set the parents up to fail - even make
them loose jobs etc. I wish I had had a tape recorder on me that night, because
I was shocked that they would say the things they did without worrying about who
was hearing them. It was as if they had no fear of the consequences of their
words or actions. A very scary and upsetting thing!!!

If my children had been taken from me I would certainly be in court with my
wife, especially if my children had been taken from me because of abuse that did
not occur. And that is why I think a lot of these fathers aren't in court.
The abuse did occur, so they don't want to show their faces in court. If
you're innocent, why aren't you defending yourself?

I just feel bad for the children beeing taken away from their family and
everything they know. I think we should have respect for everyone. Just like
Jesus has told us. Just because they are diffrent, they are still Children off

Supporting the FLDS from an LDS point of view is revolting. Their beliefs are
inferior and outrageous. The spanned off the the LDS religion, there was a
reason for it, they have their own beliefs that are not inline with ours. We
should not be assumed to help and aide these people, it is a personal affront
that people believe we should, their way of life is offensive.
Those who are expecting for the LDS church to step in, do something yourselves. Talking and complaining that everyone else should take care of the problem only removes you from any responsibility you feel we have.
It is very sad what these children are experiencing, if it were my child I would be in dispair, yet the women have a chance to break free and the children removed from further mental damage. If they do not take this opportunity to do it than it is on them.

I don't think the FLDS women need to cut their hair, but they definitely need to get rid of the funny roll on top of their heads. Their are many ways to wear long hair without looking down right silly. Long hair is nice if it is worn in a nice bun that looks normal, and not a 1-2 foot ROLL above their heads. Their hair style is quite odd looking and doesn't really look too fundamentalist to me. I have seen similar hair styles worn in the TV's series Star Trek.

Unfortunately, you are exactly correct. What checks and balances do we have for CPS? To my knowledge there are none. I was recently interviewed by CPS, on the phone I informed the interviewer that I would like an attorney present, she laughed and stated that would not be necessary, in addition, �no one ever uses an attorney�. I was floored! When I showed up to the interview it was not taped and there were no witnesses. She simply took notes on a yellow notepad. About 5 seconds into the interview I informed her that I was not comfortable with the circumstances of the interview and refused to answer anymore questions. Well as a punishment for "not cooperating" I have been sued AND the interviewer determined that I was guilty. Interestingly enough the criminal charges filed against me at the state level have been dismissed. CPS is nuts with power. They will take a kid out of a home for parents simply yelling too loud. And if you don�t know what yelling too loud is, I suggest you ask a CPS worker, cause it is simply based on what she feels at that very moment in time.

Esther, to plead for the children to be returned.
Barlow said he was excommunicated from the FLDS Church four years ago, but his wives remained. He learned that his children were in Texas custody when a brother-in-law called him, asking if he could help.
He hasn't seen Esther, or the five children he had with her, since then. He recently visited his 6-year-old daughter, whom he said didn't recognize him at first.

I believe the LDS Church should stay as far away from this controversy as
possible. This sect broke away from the church over a point of disagreement
more than 115 years ago. The leader of that sect is in prison for ordering
child rape. Some of his followers have been accused of child rape. Meanwhile
many of his followers continue to break the law of the land by living polygamy.
The FLDS are dealing with Texas now precisely because they followed their
so-called prophet and many members continue to honor and follow him. The LDS
Church would be viewed suspiciously and would be accused of having ulterior
motives if it offered to provide housing and foster homes to the victims of this
tragedy. Indeed almost any active LDS, given the opportunity, would try to
convert FLDS to their side. The LDS Church is right in allowing the government
with its system of checks and balances to handle the FLDS situation. All
Americans, not just Mormons, should support the Texas effots to stamp out child
abuse and also should be vigilant in protecting the civil rights of the victims
as well as of the accused.

What I don't understand is, if the FLDS parents are doing no wrong, and no
crimes are being committed, why does everyone seem to be hiding
something....like names, relationships ect. Innocent people don't hide, or
need to lie about heritage. Innocent people don't generally end up in jail

The real issue is: Why did CPS refuse to acknowledge drivers licences and birth
certificates forcing the courts to validate them as is currently occurring.
Don't you find it particularly odd, even suspect, that a 22 year old was
listed as a minor (15) WITH those forms of identification? This was occurring as
CPS was claiming they didn't have identification and were lying about their
ages. The simple fact was that the FLDS were telling the truth AND showing I.D.
but since the women do not wear makeup nor do they wear modern clothing, they
were ignored and even invalidated. That is why my outrage.

It was not a matter of Arthur Barlow being "allowed" to have contact
with his family, but choice not to have contact, AS HE STATED. Sticks with
facts. That same fact happens commonly all across the country without any
question. You failed to notice that CPS now is questioning whether or not that
should be considered abuse. You just don't "get" what is really
happening. You fail to see how the Book of Mormon removal stated the real
situation. You don't find it at all suspicious that the judge stated that
there "better be a good reason for the removal of the BOM", yet when
no reason was offered but instead the response "I see no reason why the BOM
can't be returned" without penalty or further demand of response. You
fail to grasp that many of the listed "minors" are being legally
classified as adults, which they stated originally with proof of identification
but which CPS ignored. You miss the forest for the single tree.

In a passionate speech, Andrea Sloan, an attorney for a mother, said authorities
obtained her client's birth certificate in the raid, but continued
classifying her as a minor even though she will be 28 in less than two weeks.
The woman, Leona Allred, even had a copy of her birth certificate, but her
status as a minor was not changed until Tuesday's hearing.
Sharon, you probably also have no issue with the above obtained at gosanangelo. Because the Center does not house women over age 22, she may be kicked out and without a ride. Your heart must be filled with joy at the horrors taking place thanks to your hero Carolyn who clearly exaggerated based on the words of those that walked away from the FLDS. But walking away is not nearly as exciting sounding as "escape" so you ignore all their words instead believing a story of your own creation. I'll stick with facts.

New Mexico, you need a reality check - innocent people are convicted ALL THE
TIME! Check out the Innocence Project. Every two bit greedy, fame hungry
prosecutor and all their hangers on loves nothing more than to gain brownie
points, power and fame by prosecuting a high profile sex crime - read some of
the many books on the injustice committed in this regard. Start with the
McMartin case. It clearly shows how corrupt and evil government workers, social
workers, prosecutors, etc., can be.

CPS lies ALL THE TIME, not just in this case. They have sleazy, lying public
relations tactics intended to throw mud at the victims of their abuse (FLDS in
this case). There are thousands of CPS victims in the USA. Read their stories
- you'll see what a vicious, lying, corrupt, evil organization CPS is. If
there is a God, CPS workers are going to fry in Hell, they are committing the
worst crime and greatest inhumanity known to man - brutality stealing children
from their parents, condemning them to a life of pain and suffering, and knowing
all the time, THERE WAS NO ABUSE. All so they can get their funding, or just be

It's intriguing to see so many names pop up from Carolyn Jessop's

If there are villains at the YFZ ranch, Barbara and Merrill Jessop are at the top of that list.
They said Barbara Jessop wouldn't sign the papers because of an ongoing criminal investigation. Her 17-year old son had given them several names for himself. And of course Merrill Jessop is nowhere to be found. Coward. His children are just pawns to him anyhow, the power-hungry freak. And Barbara is the queen abuser. That woman is Beelzebub incarnate. If little Wendell Jessop is one of those kids with broken bones, Barbara was most likely the one who gave them to him. And they weren't an accident. She beat him bloody when he was just 2 years old.
The mother, Cathleen, tried to do something about it, but was bullied into submission by Barbara and Merrill.
I hope they're both incarcerated.
