Provo Canyon crash victims ID'd as sister and brother

I offer my sympathy to the family. Also to the students at Farr Elementary and any one else impacted by this terrible tragedy.

Why, why, why don't people use seatbelts? It's such a simple thing with such a huge impact. They don't save every life but they do save lives. It's sad the mother will be distraught and sad over this for the rest of her life. But only if seatbelts had been used ...

Judging solely from the appearance of the destroyed rear half of that Pontiac, I question whether seatbelts on the rear occupants would have saved their lives. Seatbelts are lifesaving devices--usually.

I agree that people should be diligent in the wearing of seatbelts, however, in this particular crash, it would have probably resulted in deaths as the children could very possibly been severed or at the very least sustained formidable crushed internal injuries to the abdomen. T-bone crashes kill people often when they are wearing seat belts. However, it is ALWAYS better to be wearing restraint straps. We never know how, where or when....

I hope the peace of God can come to this family and especially to the mother. Pointing fingers of accusations cannot bring her peace or forgiveness to her soul.

Agreed. Look at the pictures. Seat belts would not have done anything to help in this case.

Not to say they shouldn't be worn but to post some comment about it after someone's children died is tough.

i hope they charge her with vehicular homicide. Overwhelming grief and remorse are not a get out of jail free card. I'm sure the prisons are full of people who feel unimaginable grief for their actions. A woman in Utah was recently charged when her car accidently rolled down her driveway and killed a small child. This mother deserves nothing less. We'll never know if seat belts would have saved their lives or not. My friend was hit by a dump truck and survived. It was a long difficult recovery, but she eventually fully recovered. This woman not only killed her children, but injured innocent people. Justice is required, along with forgiveness. I cannot imagine not seeing a truck pulling a trailer coming your way. She probably thought she could beat the truck and was wrong, dead wrong.

I think that she should not go to jail and it was not her fault. If you guys want to help the family then friday at Farrer Elemntry you can go leave a donation for the family.

It's true that seat belts might not have saved those kids lives but it is the habit of wearing seatbelts that needs to be instilled in children by parents who teach by example. I feel sorry that she lost her children too. My sister lost her daughter in a car accident five years ago and she was not wearing a seatbelt. I might have my sweet niece here if she had worn her seatbelt that day. Posting a comment about it after a death is not unfeeling - it is to help others to think about it too so they will use theirs.

It is sad that a mother lost her children. However, Dorothy is right. Has she taken a moment to thing about it her children may still be here. This is a story we here all to often. I am sad for the family.

This was a very sad day for the Lopez family, but we also have to remember there was another family who had their lives dramatically changed that day, including two children. This family was saved by the use of there seat belts, even though their truck flipped several times. Our hearts and prayers need to go out to all involved, including those that helped and responded to this horrific accident.
