Go away and quit soliciting the whiners to come out. The true Jazz fans don't whine about the game. We lost the game more than the Lakers won it.
Disappointed | 7:42 a.m. May 15, 2008
Okay, the officials were frustrating to deal with. Some Phantom fouls on Odom and Kobe? But Utah had too many chances to pull away and didn't. I love Boozer, but he needs to be benched! Since he's not a defensive player and he can't shoot worth anything- pull him.

Sloan isn't going to say anything nor are the jazz players, but the Lakers are giving Boozer the open looks, they want him to shoot it- if I were coaching the Lakers, I would want Boozer to shoot it. 3-14 sucks. And it's not just one game. Okur was awesome. Rebounding, playing hard- how come Boozer doesn't give this kind of effort? I don't see it?

D-Will awesome job. Love Korver too, but he wasn't the answer in the 4th- CJ MIles would have been a better option. Jazz had the opportunities but didn't capitalize. Let's get a game 7.

I stopped watching the game when I saw that Steve Javie was reffing. I knew it was over.

We were still in the game at halftime because Sloan had to pull Korver with 8 minutes to go due to foul trouble. Two athletic players (CJ and Brewer) manned the two guard spot the rest of the half.

We caught up in the third with Korver on the bench. In the 4th it was all Korver. CJ and Brewer sat and watched our defense break down time after time. That's partly due to Boozer, but having Brewer or CJ on the floor would have helped a lot.

If Korver is not hitting threes, he is a liability. I like Korver and appreciate his effort, but he should only be playing 8 to 12 minutes a game unless he is lighting it up. It's not his fault, it's Jerry's fault.

It was a great game Jazz fans cant complain the Jazz had many chances to win the game we cant blame the refs for this loss Jazz missed their opportunities the series is not over defend our homecourt Friday and with how tough we played L.A. in the Staples Center last night i believe we can win if not its a bright future in Utah we have many young stars!

GO JAZZ
bergstro | 7:48 a.m. May 15, 2008
Be clear, we can't blame the refs. We had plenty of chances to take this game and blew it by taking dumb shots (Kirilenko) and not boxing out (Boozer). That said, the refs were horrible. There wasn't a single close call that went the Jazz's way in the fourth last night. Kobe gets the benefit of the doubt every time. Deron gets hammered consistently without a call. So... what's the big surprise?

We all know NBA refs are the worst in professional sports. Everyone knows they favor the home team, the big markets, and the superstar players. To ask for consitency at this point is worthless. It is what it is, and that is how David Stern wants it to be. The Jazz have to know this and play through it. We can't go into the last 2:00 of a playoff game against the Lakers a few points behind and expect to come away with a victory. We have to assume it will be 5 against 8 and just deal with it.
Dave | 7:50 a.m. May 15, 2008
I couldn't agree with Boozers Weak post. CJ Miles came in in the 2nd qtr. and was extremely effective. I have no doubt that he should be PLAYING more minutes. He is much more athletic and looked very confident last night which is exactly what we need against a team like the Lakers. Korver in my mind is a situational player and someone who can give you a lift offensively with some fire power when needed but he is not the type of player that can be effective playing the entire 4th qtr. like Sloan continues to play him.
The Jazz fell for it | 7:52 a.m. May 15, 2008
The Jazz totally fell for Phil Jackson's diabolical plan to have Kobe pretend that his back hurt. Kobe pretended to get hurt in GM4 but he had to make it look convincing or Sloan might actually not believe it. So what did Kobe do to really make Sloan think he was injured?

GM4
-He missed shots on purpose so that he only ended up shooting 39% even though he was shooting 50%+ for the entire series up to that point.

-But he couldn't pull of the illusion of being hurt unless he helped the Jazz win by missing 4 key FT.

BUT SLOAN WAS STILL SUSPICIOUS SO:

GM 5
-He allowed Brewer to go 7-9 shooting by pretending to be slower on defense

But Sloan was still on to him so instead of taking the game over, he sat back and limited himself to 10 shots...the 8th lowest in the game.

Result?

Sweet victory. This little 2-game distraction by the Lakers proved successful and allowed Phil/Kobe to win at home in LA and all they had to do was give up one game in Utah........

Pathetic....so pathetic....that Jazz fans actually believe this trash...It's just not rational but oh well.
Jabs | 7:53 a.m. May 15, 2008
Wow, that one hurt. The Jazz had the opportunities to win Game 5. A couple of shots too early in the shot clock in the 4th quarter and a few missed layups at crucial moments. Hopefully the one thing the Jazz took away from this game is that there is no reason to be intimidated in the Staples Center. So after they win Game 6 as ESA, they can go down to LA and Shock the World. GO JAZZ!!
Don't Blame Korver | 7:57 a.m. May 15, 2008
Korver's defense against his man (including Kobe) has not been the difference in this series. As well, he's not only on the court to score, but because he is a legitimate outside scoring threat, he deflects attention from our big men inside because his man cannot leave him alone. As a result in the fourth quarter alone Boozer was open and got the ball deep inside on at least 4 late possessions. He came away with one point. And you blame Korver?
Rich | 7:59 a.m. May 15, 2008
Jazz fans, don't be surprised that the Lakers got most of the close calls last night. That happens at almost every home game, and it will probably happen in the Energy Solutions Arena (hopefully). That's why Utah has to play an almost perfect game to win in LA -- not only must they win on the court with their play but they can't play from behind or just barely ahead or some bad calls or non-calls can erase it all in seconds. Don't expect Utah to win easily at the ESA. The Jazz must play a very good game to win, even with the benefit of a dozen or so calls. That's the way it is in the NBA, and that's the way it will be as long as the NBA believes its in its interest to let the home team win most of its games. So deal with it.

Utah still could have won this game if Boozer had committed to playing better team defense. When somebody needed help, he simply did not switch in time, and then Memo or AK couldn't fill in for him on time. Boozer, trust your teammates! And concentrate on your shot!
re: beat jazz off | 7:59 a.m. May 15, 2008
Sweeping up at the arenas after the game ends does not constitute attending a game. :) Any reasonable person can see that the NBA is trying to maximize its revenues and a small market team will always be at a disadvantage when it comes to the refs. If the system is working for you (LA) then of course there is nothing for you to whine about. It would be interesting to see the comments from LA if the tables were turned.
Stern should be happy! | 7:59 a.m. May 15, 2008
This is going just how Stern wants it... L.A. and
Boston in the Finals. Note to Detroit: Get ready for a good ole fashioned rig job. The nba is tainted.
LA's Time | 7:59 a.m. May 15, 2008
This year is the year of the Laker. You knew when Kobe talked about his bad back he was going to find some heroic way to help his team win because it makes for good drama. You knew the Jazz had no chance of winning game 5. Now is the time of the Laker and his glittering fan. It is the time of Lord Phil. In a season or two, Williams will take it from the Laker, deflate his fan, and banish Lord Phil to the couch. It's coming, it just isn't now.
The refs were irritating and lopsided, but the Jazz didn't help themselves enough to win, and that's the real story of the conquering Laker. If Boozer could infuse some Barkley into his DNA Gasol would never have made that big play.
The Pince Valiant-like hair of that Laker 2 guard is a good taunt. Everytime he scores I get irritated watching him run down the floor with his bouncing locks.
Congrats Laker. You made the most of your advantages. The victory is yours. The series is yours. The future is ours.
Cal Jazz fan | 8:01 a.m. May 15, 2008
Championships are won inspite of the officiating not because of it!
Re: It's Funny | 8:07 a.m. May 15, 2008
No, it's not rigged. I posted about the complaints because I know Utah fans are huge whiners, and can never accept defeat. It's not the referee's fault Utah lost the game. Turnovers, Boozer's ineffectiveness and not being able to stop Gasol, Odom or Bryant is what lost it for you.
Korver | 8:09 a.m. May 15, 2008
What Korver brings to the Jazz, especially in this match up against the Lakers, is not greater than the liability he is. I wish Sloan would play Brewer and Miles more. At least they can play above the rim and sort of hang with Kobe.
Bill | 8:17 a.m. May 15, 2008
Maybe the Jazz fans do whine. But from what I saw on television, Gasol was crying and whining every time a foul was called on him. He NEVER owns up to his own fouls. At least Fisher is a man about it and admits his fouls.
Boozer defenseless | 8:19 a.m. May 15, 2008
Boozer-
"It's tough because sometimes you're helping so much on Kobe".

Are you kidding me? You don't play your own guy little lone another player. You are bar none the worst defensive player I have ever seen. Look in the mirror. Take some pride in your D. It's about desire and you don't have an inkling.

Jazz fan | 8:21 a.m. May 15, 2008
I have been a Jazz fan through thick and thin for many years and its always the same. When they come out energized they do very well when they don't, they don't. You can argue back and forth about why this and why that but bottom line is, the Jazz can determine their own destiny. You can criticize Boozer, and yell at Korver but obviously you can't do better or would be doing it yourself. It's easy to play well and criticize from your easy chair. It is also much easier to win a game when the referees are consistent but there will always be inconsistency even though most referees have had more experience than the players. And face it there have also always been a certain number of players and teams that get the calls. Does anyone remember the final play that cost the Jazz the game when someone named Jordon pushed off? And in response to "whining", I guess it depends on whose team won. Who was whining last week?
Exactly.... | 8:28 a.m. May 15, 2008
The commish, could'nt have said it any better. We ALL KNOW that the Jazz are the better team. Unfortunatley, ultamatley it's all about the ratings, the Jazz never had a chance.
Jazz fans | 8:30 a.m. May 15, 2008
No excuses out of me. I am proud of the way the Jazz played They were there at the end and they just didn't get it. There were calls I did not agree with, but there were calls Laker fans did not agree with either I am sure. The bottom line is the Jazz missed a couple big shots and gave up 2 key offensive rebounds. Memo chose to flop forward instead of putting a body on Gasol and getting the board. D Will did great and I thought the Jazz showed great poise in not laying down but being there at the end, but that is not enough they have got to be able to close the deal. I think the Jazz win game 6 so the question is when game 7 goes to the wire and it will if they win game 6 can the Jazz stay poised and hit the big shots? Don't count them out!
Hugh G. Hater | 8:30 a.m. May 15, 2008
Poor officiating aside, the Jazz should've won.
Boozer is a joke. He is dead weight. Too bad Memo was injured; you could tell he was slowed down.

What is with the inability to hit a jump shot? Where is brewers jumper? Korver? Harpring? Put in the d league mvp and let him have a crack.
TicketHolder | 8:31 a.m. May 15, 2008
The Jazz defense last night was awful. Boozer and Okur are a huge defensive liability. It was evident in all of the dunks by Odom and the point blank lay ups by Gasol. Is there anybody on this team that can stan up to the Lakers besides D-Will? We have the softest big men in the NBA. I hope we trade some of these pampered softies for somebody that can muscle someone up and knock them down.
Jazz Realist | 8:35 a.m. May 15, 2008
I'm as big a Jazz fan as anyone, but here's a thought... Quit complaining everyone. That is the NBA. You aren't going to get some calls on the road you would at home, especially in the playoffs. It wasn't the officiating that cost the Jazz. It was the turnovers, offensive rebounds and lack of help defense. Got to hand it to L.A. They are a good team and they got great contributions from their lesser players! That folks is life!
ZEKE | 8:38 a.m. May 15, 2008
Poor offiated game in the fourth quarter. The Jazz players were getting knocked to the floor when they were going to the basket and the refs swallowed their whisels. several calls were made against the Jazz on no touch fouls. You could tell who the officals wanted to win the game and it was`nt the Jazz.
Re: lost | 8:38 a.m. May 15, 2008
I think the over time win by the Jazz was a pretty close. Your theory doesn't wash.
Call it the Same | 8:39 a.m. May 15, 2008
Not saying that the Lakers get all the calls. Of course the Lakers get bad calls as well. Just call the same game on both sides of the floor.
When odom can go down the lane untouched and get "and 1" and Williams goes down the lane looking like a pinball, something is amiss.
When a ref on the opposite side of the court calls a foul on AK and the ref next to play calls nothing. Somethin is amiss.
DasRipper | 8:40 a.m. May 15, 2008
Boozer=Loozer
Ernie | 8:40 a.m. May 15, 2008
I keep trying to tell myself that being a loyal Jazz fan I only see the calls that go against us. But once again as soon as the Jazz tie the Lakers, Boom! we can't buy a foul and insvisible fouls against us start dropping like rain. Memo gets pushed our for rebounds and it suddenly doesn't matter. The announcer says "Okur tried to act like he got pushed". How ridiculous is that when the guy who pushed you was behind you. Memo couldn't see it coming. As much as I love the Jazz, I think I will have to quit watching NBA Basketball.
excuses excuses | 8:43 a.m. May 15, 2008
Jazz had an opportunity to close out and it didnt happen. Boozer is too soft, and missing layups and the end. Deron was doing his part and then some!
lamonte | 8:42 a.m. May 15, 2008
For the record:

Vujacic trips over his own feet and kicks the ball out of bounds. Becuase Kirilenko is running close by (not touching) he gets a foul and the Lakers get two free throws.

AK puts a sweet fake on Odem and blows right past him for the layup. Despite the fact that Odem actually grabs AK's arm there is no fould called.

Odem gets a feed from Kobe and swoops in for a dunk. Boozer is at least two from Odem but the refs call a foul and Odem gets a three point play.

Gasol has absolutely no position and flattens Okur then turns around (while Memet lays on the floor) and shoots a short jumper. This is an isolated play with virtually no one else around except ex-undercover cop and current coward referee Delaney.

Booze makes one of his signature inside moves and gets a bucket - only to be called off because the referee (and nobody else) claimed Boozer was traveling.

Deron Williams gets hammered and there's no call. But when Boozer gets hammered on the rebound, there is a call. No shots but Jazz take it out on the side.

I could go on.
WHAT | 8:44 a.m. May 15, 2008
I know the Jazz lost because of crucial mistakes at the end, but that may been the most dissapointing officiating I have seen this entire year. What load of crap!!!
Booz needs to go | 8:44 a.m. May 15, 2008
BOOZER NEEDS TO GO. I'd trade him for a case of Tyson Chicken (a la Seinfeld). This guy has been shady his whole career. Let's look at it and see if we can see a pattern develop...

Leaving school early without any assurance of being a first round pick. Usually what kind of guys do that...

The Cleveland cut-and-run. Again, nothing that most of us wouldn't have done, but still part of the overall picture.

Right after signing a huge deal, he sits out 82 of a possible 164 games. Only he knows if those injuries were legit, but remember that LHM criticized him publicly for lack of effort. LHM is no dummy.

All the rumors those first two years about how bad he and his wife hate living in Utah. He buys a home in LA (I'm not even going to dive into the bizarre lawsuit with Prince who was renting that home at times), and he spends most of his time rehabbing his hammy in that LA home. During this "injured/rehab" time he makes a "Core Secrets" infomercial with Nick Lachey and Brooke Burke. At least he was making an effort somewhere.

Boozer-hater | 8:43 a.m. May 15, 2008
They say basketball is a team sport, but this was Boozer's loss. Odom used him all night, scored on three or four consecutive dunks, while Boozer watched. Yet Sloan refused to take out his only "All Star" even though he was getting shredded. I honestly beleive that if I or any other semi-competent fan would have been coaching, the Jazz would have won. Boozer was an absolute liability in the second half. I wouldn't even be surprised if Boozer is indicted in some kind of cheating scam in a few weeks, where he tried to lose on purpose. That's the only explanation. Sure, you might miss some shots, but there's no excuse for defensive lapses. Trade him while he's still worth somthing.
Booz needs to go | 8:46 a.m. May 15, 2008
Continued in next post...

He still lives in LA and Miami in the off-season (yes, I've read about the situation with his son). He is free to live anywhere he wants, but Jazz fans need to wake up and see what is coming. This guy is coming up on free agency again, and any Jazz fan that thinks he is sticking around is delusional. He is going to bolt for the first big market team that winks at him. We need to trade him now for any asset we can get, before he leaves us high and dry like he did Cleveland.

I am emotional and financially invested in this team (season tickets at 9% of my annual income). I have been supporting my team through good times and bad, and I continue to support the Jazz. But we have a right to be critical of players that we feel are not giving their all to our team, just as we have the right to be critical of our political leaders.

Booz needs to go | 8:47 a.m. May 15, 2008
Continued in next post...

Having literally watched nearly every play since he got here, I do not trust Carlos Boozer. The only great thing he has really done for us was fake an injury, which put us in a position to draft Deron Williams. Thank you for that Boozer. Now let's trade his shady BLEEP for any asset that we can get.
re: not a whiner | 8:46 a.m. May 15, 2008
Please..."I ref myself" makes you an instant authority right? Not that we even believe that but if we did who cares. JR High games don't exactly make you an expert and being a Jazz fan doesn't exactly make you objective.

"When all is said and done" why haven't the Lakers been to the finals in 5 years? Why have the Spurs won 4 championships in the last 8 years? The Jazz went twice a decade ago and the Cavs (who by the way are in just as small a market as SLC) also went. Don't pretend that there's a conspiracy when you can't even get your facts right.

You sat by Lakers fans who whined? I've sat by Jazz fans who've whined and I'm reading a blog listing full of whining posts. So, does that mean the Jazz fans are bigger whiners by your logic? By the way...hate to break it to you but YOU'RE doing the complaining.

If I remember correctly, the Jazz fans complained about Malone more than anyone else did and as for "my court my call"...I didn't hear you complaining in GM4 with a Jazz win and fewer fouls...

Go back to reffing JrHigh girls games.
Realist | 8:45 a.m. May 15, 2008
The Jazz had ample opportunities to win this game. I don't thing the refs caused the loss. The Jazz missed multiple lay ups, open jumpers and box outs. Aside from DWill, the players look tenative down the stretch. 19 turnovers also make it very difficult to win.

I don't believe there's any conspiracy. It's always harder to win on the road. The Jazz couldn't do it during the regular season, why should they be doing it now? The Jazz have some growing up to do.
HuskerJazzFan | 8:48 a.m. May 15, 2008
Refs, bad calls, it's all B.S. These things did NOT cause the Jazz to lose!!

19 Jazz turnovers and 6 freaking offensive boards for Pau Gasol lost the game.

Boozer playing meek again lost the game.

They missed layups and free throws that could have given them the lead - put the pressure on the Lakers to play from behind, instead of the Jazz.

This game was the series. I think the Jazz will come back home an win, but they missed their opportunity.

I hate to say it, but it looks like Lakers in 7.
(I hope they prove me wrong).
JAFO | 8:53 a.m. May 15, 2008
The officiating in the NBA is what it is and will never change. You have got to give LA credit along with Koby, they played like a team. But if Utah does not find someone to match up and stop Odem, the Jazz are done. If Koby would have quit trying to play hero in game 4 and would have went to Pau and Odem at the end of the game they may have won that one also. We had our chances in this game and just could not get over the hump. On the bright side the Lakers played well and we were not that far out of it.
Moto X | 8:52 a.m. May 15, 2008
Despite all the BLATANT HOMER calls the refs made we were right there to win the game. You know the refs are going to give them the calls/no-calls.

I feel bad for Deron Williams though--he is absolutely awesome and Boozer has pulled the ultimate vanishing act. How many blown layups (that should have been dunks)??? Unable to finish, unable to defend, no effort at either end of the floor!!!!

Despite dragging his no-effort rear-end through 4/5ths of this series we were still right there to win this game.

We had plenty of times to take the lead and Booz/AK/Okur did not make a big shot/basket when needed. D-Will was left to do it all himself despite the smothering D and traps LA employs to get the ball out of his hands but he still put up a masterful performance for a road game.

He just needs his all-star buddy to make an appearance.

Does this feel like last years Houston series to anyone else? Game after game on the road, we kept getting closer to winning until finally game 7 we pulled it off.

Keep the faith Jazz fans--I think this is going back to LA for a thrilling finish.
False objectivity | 8:55 a.m. May 15, 2008
I love it how the Jazz fans try to couch their bias and obvious whining in objectivity. The trick is to say something like

"Well, I saw that the game was pretty close...but then the refs just started calling really obvious miss-calls"

That way you make all your Jazz compatriates think you're so objective which makes the second part of the statement seem more legit.

See, I'll try it this way as a Lakers' fan.

"I have to admit there were definitely some calls that the Lakers got away with...but I have to say, for the most part I think the calls were pretty even - I just think the Jazz were a step slow in a couple cases"

Did that lull you into false objectivity?

No?

Hmm. Well I guess that's why it doesn't work for you either! You guys are the worst!

I especially like (not a whiner |7:26) "I ref myself and I hate to watch a Laker's game". See how he did that? Now we have to trust him...he refs himself. By the way does that mean he refs himself? or he is a ref? The guy's an armchair ref like the rest of us.

Legitimate Conspiracy | 8:59 a.m. May 15, 2008
How could we have been so duped?

Kobe was wanting out of LA at the start of the season, and now he is the darling of LA and the NBA.

The only solution to the change of fortune would be Kobe must of bought David Stern an enormous diamond ring. It is all clear now.
Biggest Whiners? | 9:00 a.m. May 15, 2008
Not the Jazz. Jerry Sloan is never a whiner. He doesn't blame the refs, he blames his own team and gives credit to the other team. His team follows suit, and even if they have reason (which it sure appeared so) they don't blame the refs. Complaining during the game is one thing; whining during and after the game is quite another.

Biggest Whiner? Hands down, the Whinemaster, Phil Jackson! We have seen this for many years, both in Chicago and in LA. And his team always follows suit. The LA Lakers players are constantly complaining about calls, and the (wha wha) Jazz just being too physical! Complaining the calls is one thing, whining is quite another!

Top Ten whiner teams? LA is always at the top, followed closely by Houston, Dallas and San Antonio.

Top Ten whiner players? Number 1? I don't know, but T-Mac and Kobe would be in there somewhere. Man up, boys! (I don't know if Gasol is such a whiner, but is face cast in a permanent whine mode.)
re: Go Jazz!!!!!! | 8:59 a.m. May 15, 2008
I love that you support your team with 5 '!' instead of just 1. I think you like them better than "Go Jazz!!" from yesterday.

Anyway, I like that you are trying to be even-toned about this but if the Lakers win the series, which they will in Utah, they won't care that they lost 2 in Utah last week.

That being said, at least you're a true team fan if they win or lose. Most of the Jazz fans here are ready to trade all the starters when they lose and pronounce them MVP when they win.

thanks for being consistent.
Jazz fan in WA | 9:00 a.m. May 15, 2008
I won't whine, unlike most Jazz fans even though last night's loss was tough.

It's pretty standard to get more than your fair share of calls as the home team. The Jazz get that benefit, too, when playing at home. So, I tend to look at this as the Jazz (and Boozer specifically) not stepping up and getting it done.

To be a championship team, you have to win on the road. To win on the road, you have to be able to play through calls that go against you.

This will go 7, but the Jazz have to play a lot better than this to ever win at Staples.
Re: Laker Fan | 9:01 a.m. May 15, 2008
It is funny that a laker fan would say that Jazz fans are whinny, when the laker organization is the whinnest organization in the NBA. For example, in game 1 Phil Jackson was whinning about calls at halftime. After every game he whines about the officating.
The Lakers | 9:00 a.m. May 15, 2008
They were bounced in the frist round of the playoffs just last year. So much for your conspiracy theory that the NBA is cheating so the Lakers can win. Also for a team that has more fouls than any other team in the NBA you have no credibility when you whine about fouls.
Ridiculous! | 9:02 a.m. May 15, 2008
It's amazing that Laker fans cry that jazz fans whine. It's only because you have the biggest fake and punk in basketball with Kobe. It's easy to say that jazz fans whine when every call gos towards the Lakers. You don't have much to say when everything goes your way. I hope LA falls in the ocean. And this is someone who grew up in San Diego.
