..."jaded feeling about religious kindness of Utah people?" Because of our driving? Wow! Talk about civility. Everyone is trying to find a way to go at "Mormons" right now. Try a different angle, like maybe all our wives and all our children! That might hurt. People in Utah, mormon or not are really pretty civil to others unless one is a Utah fan and one is a BYU fan. Thats when we can get ignorant! Try using one school against the other and then you will really see "the religious kindness of Utah!"

He just made up that name and that comment to provoke response. He is bored and this is how he entertains himself. Just ignore him. He'll go away.

I was born and raised in UT and it's always going to be home to me. After attending USU, my husband and I left for a job in CA, then grad school in Denver, and now we live in Reno. We frequently look for opportunities to move home, with only one big reservation. I cannot, CANNOT believe how rude and aggresive (most) drivers have become there. It's the one and only thing I dislike about coming home for visits. It wasn't that way when I was living there, but it's sure gotten bad over the last 10 years or so. I feel like I am risking my life each time I get on the freeway. As for the other states we've lived in, there's obviously an occasional jerky driver, but for the most part, it's not too bad. What's the deal with the driving in UT? Is it because everyone lives so far from work now and is sick of the commute(ie: live in Herriman, work downtown)? I don't understand it. I'm not ripping on Utah, I just wish I understood the reasoning behind the mean driving there.

I run etiquette classes for children and have run these for LDS youth groups throughout the valley. I find it amazing that your comments are so true. For example, I sent out 12,000 flyers in the Draper area offering a six weeks course for children at at a cost of $65 for the whole course. I received 30 replies! I am currently running a Finishing School for ladies and businessmen and run etiquette classes as well. The article by Dennis Romboy has hit the nail right on the head. Hurrah, for Dennis Romboy, that's what I say.

The most amazing thing about your article is not the statistics, it has been obvious from the rising crime rate, the spiraling poor service at restaurants, the bullying in the class room and the road rage that civility had been and continues to be on the decline. No, what amazes me is that no one is responsible for it, or at least doesn't believe it belongs to them. No one will own the problem. My husband teaches etiquette to all areas of society, but the lack of interest in the subject is indicative of the results in the article by Mr. Romboy. Maybe the Victorians were over zealous in this area but at least they made a conscerted effort
to be civil, we just blame our neighbors.

I just wish that clerks would say "Thank You" after I give them money for groceries, meals or services. Most of the time, they say "There you go." Well, there you go!

What happened to the dress code part of the Honor Code at BYU? The Deseret News ought to take a few pictures of contemporary BYU students. Too many females dress like hookers and some men like homeless drifters. Most professors are afraid to say anything lest they receive bad student evaluations and other teachers dress as casually as their students.
