Ridiculous | 8:11 p.m. May 9, 2008
OK, say more signs were posted and the campground had been closed, how long do you close it for? One week? One year? Forever? Let's say it gets closed for one week, and then the bear comes back after a few weeks and attacks again. Some on this site would still blame the State of Utah. Some would say the font on the signs wasn't big enough. Ridiculous. Let's just close the whole forest forever.

We reserved a campsite weeks in advance a few summers back. I would not want to be the ranger hearing all the irate complaints of people showing up to their reserved campsite only to be told it was closed. People would say "No Duh!," we already know about the risk presented by wildlife and are obviously accepting the risk.
Choices | 8:19 p.m. May 9, 2008
This is a sad example of the mindset in America today. If I make the choice to go camping in an area where bears live, I accept the possiblity that I might be attacked by a bear. No one else made that choice for me, so no one else is reponsible for my choice. Just me! There are tons more volunteers than victims. Yes, bad things happen which are not our fault, but even then, we get to choose how we will respond. We are becoming a nation of weak, silly volunteers of victimhood. I am not a victim and neither are you! We are all volunteers.
Signs? | 9:59 p.m. May 9, 2008
Give me a break. There are warnings posted everywhere and on everything these days. Common Sense 101, we all take risks every day and sometimes accidents do happen. There was no malicious intent here by anyone but the perpetrator. The perpetrator is the bear. Nothing good will result from this lawsuit and sadly the family & lawyer will make enemies along the way. Just a greedy game of finger-pointing that won't bring anyone back to life. If the state was at fault, I could understand a demotion or someone losing their job. Awarding the family money will not resolve anything and the lawyer has likely tricked himself into thinking he is doing a noble thing. This lawyer is deceiving his very self. This is bad, bad, bad, all the way around.

Stay away from the Wild animals home and they will stay away from you. This is a horrible tragedy but You can't blame the state, the country, it was an accident period.

This is like suing Toyota , because a child was carjacked and later killed by the carjacker.
There were signs posted | 10:36 a.m. May 13, 2008
My parents had camped in that area just a couple of nights before the attack. There were precaution signs posted in several places, according to my dad.
Sorry, But DON'T SUE | 11:27 p.m. May 20, 2008
I'm sorry about the loss of human life, but when you go out in the wilderness it's not the state or governments job to hold your hand. You don't want them tapping your phones and monitoring your home....so.............

heres my opinion why does the family need a warning bout bear reports? if your in the woods camping you should already know about possible animal threats. I'm guessing that this family didnt know that bears ave good smell and they probably left their trash out. their fault end of story!
