They have reviewed other rated "R" movies before. Some of their readers do watch movies with a rating higher than "PG-13"

The Saw movies alone are worse than this movie. So I don't see why it's odd for this movie to be reviewed here.

they're ripping on it. No surprise though, funny thing is everyone else is giving it a lot of praise.

Dear Confused, have you never been to the DesNews website or paper before? They have been reviewing most movies for several years, including Rs and the occasional NC-17. A review doesn't mean they endorse the film, they are simply providing their readers with information so they can make informed decisions.
That's what newspapers do. At least Jeff let's you know what to expect if you do see the movie.
