Second, the assist. coaches are responsible for teaching the tactics to the players. The Head Coach is responsible for more than managing the players. They are responsible for the actual chess match. They make the match up decisions in game, respond to plays, feel out how the teams are playing and adjust. That's what makes great coaches great. The ability to adjust and coach in games to come out with the win. Totally agree that Assistants play a huge role - - - never disagreed with that.
Third, The funny thing is the you and other spend all this time saying how great a coach sloan is (which he is by the way) but you say he's so great - better than Jackson then you say Jackson's not great because it's the assistant coaches who really do the work. You already know my feelings on that but for arguments sake let's assume that's true - does that mean Phil Johnson was really the brains and heart of the jazz - not Sloan?
You read correctly, WEAK IN THE PAINT. Blocked shots do not equal tough in the paint. As far as your bench goes you pretty much have one guy who is going to help you down low and that't Ronny. Basically you have a rotation of three small forwards and two Centers, and the Jazz are going to make you pay for it.
I was watching the same game you were, the one were when the Lakers reserves were in they were playing against Utahs reserves who had one day to rest, travel, and prepare as compared to...what was it 5 days for the Lakers?
The Jazz don't need to shove with two hands when one little nudge with the elbow does just fine. The only way the Lakers will ever win the battle of the boards against the Jazz is if...well I just don't think it will ever happen, the Lakers aren't tough enough to win that battle.
No greatplayer ever won it alone, not even jordon.
The jazz have never had both or maybe either.
Stockton/malone: great position players surrounded by mediocre at best team.
Deron/boozer: mediocre stars (well maybe not deron, but deron is not certainly one of the greats yet, it he goto?) surrounded by inconsistantly good team
It's no wonder they have never won a championship!
You've got to get that great player and surround them with very good team.
Other ise the jazz will always be playoff chum and not champs.
Some teams are willing to make the sacrifices, lakers. Sometimes they get lucky, spurs or bulls
Lakers trade away team to get wilt or kareem, shaq.
Lakers trade star shooting guard to get #1 draft pick of Magic. (Big JAZZ mistake)
Lakers trade for kobe.
Lakers trade for Gasol.
What are the Jazz doing? Hopin and wishin
Hopin and wishin with mid first round draft picks
Hopin and wishin with mediocre stars like boozer.
It's no wonder the Jazz have never won.
It's simple, build you team right. starting with getting that great player
How many champions did not have a star if not superstar shooting guard?
spurs - manu
detoit hamilton?
miami - wade
lakers - kobe
chicago - jordon
houston - drexler
detroit - dumars
boston - ainge or johnson?
Lakers- magic?
Sixers - toney
Jazz - brewer??????
It's really is no wonder the jazz have never won a championship.
It really really really helps to have a star at shooting guard.
And they can all shoot the three!!!
Karl Malone was a great "regular season" player, but no one can argue the fact that he disappeared in the crucial final minutes of the NBA finals.
MALONE WAS NOT A NBA FINALS PLAYER!
Not a Bird, Johnson, Jordan, Robinson, Moses Malone, etc. period.
If Malone was a money player, Sloan would have two rings and PJ would have seven, so yes, it does have something to do with the quality of players.
I'm just surprised that PJ could comment on any game. I didn't realize that he even watched them. I just figured he let his assistants do the work and collected the check.
Now he has KOBE, and anyone who knows basketball, knows that KOBE is 60% talent, and 110% selfish ego.
The Lakers have old Fish, Egomaniac Kobe, Soft Gasol/Odom, Walton (in name only) and came in rested against a tired Jazz team.
Fly to Vegas and make your bets.
Jazz in 5!!!
(Hey, and all you KOBE fans bring an extra shirt to wear out of the game to hide your humiliation).
Well Fisher came into our house angry at the booing and this motivated Kobe. Kobe is playing better and including teammate because of the veteran presence of Fisher.
We will lose this series in 5, maybe even 4 games if Sloan is not careful! And its not because Phil is a better coach or Sloan can't make adjustments because we run such a well known offense.
Its because Fisher is playing angry with a motivating chip on his shoulder, and so is Kobe. This elevates the rest of the Lakers and we will lose because of it.
And I am a HUGE JAZZ fan. I wish it wasn't so. Even before the playoffs started, my biggest fear was playing the Lakers because of the Fisher factor.
Prove me wrong Jazz! GO JAZZ GO!

The weak Laker team swatted 8 of your team's shots on Sunday!
And depth? The Lakers have one of the deepest benches in the league! They can go 9 deep with Luke, Sasha, Farmar, and Rony T without missing a beat. As you saw last weekend. Kobe and Pau go out in the 2nd qtr, and the bench actually EXTENDS the lead..
What game are you watching?
I think the Lakers got comfortable when Denver was so soft.. Then caught off guard when Utah was so rough underneath. I think they will adjust to the 2-hands in the back shoves under the basket, and balance out those rebounds.
