Utah's "feel good" politicians will always be the laughing stock of the nation.

Well, I guess we'll see how it goes. It's Utah, so of course it couldn't be simple or easy. It'll be easy for me, as I pretty much stick to single-shot drinks.

The final comment is dead-on: the perfect word to describe the private club system is just plain "rude."

Ridiculous is another word that comes to mind. Patronizing and condescending also work.

Utah's strange liquor restrictions won't stop anyone who really wants a drink--people will find ways. All these convoluted laws really do is confuse visitors.

Come on, lawmakers--join the rest of the nation, already!

Quit hemming the people of Utah in with restrictions and trust them. Mormons who want to live the religion aren't going to drink alcohol anyway--and people who do drink won't turn into dangerous monsters if you make it a little easier to get what they're already trying to get anyway.

What's clear is that liquor laws need to be drawn up by people who actually understand how a drink is made, not by teetotalers who think sniffing a cork makes you an alcoholic.

So I can order a margarita, and a shot of a different tequila, and pour the shot into my margarita and that's legal; but if the waiter pours that shot into my margarita, that's illegal? That's just silly.

Why can't our liquor laws be at least as reasonable as Idaho's? I'm not asking us to be as tolerant as Nevada or Wyoming, but Idaho. Utah's laws are a national embarrassment which do nothing but offend our visitors and citizens who choose to drink.

I,m new here in Utah from Calif..Lets see if I have this straight-I get to pay 20 bucks to have the privelege of buying a weak drink-if I pay again for a side car,I still have a weak drink-With this new law I still pay 20 bucks and still get a weak drink but I,m no longer allowed to buy a side car.We all have our limits-I generally drink until I feel I,ve hit my limit-In Calif, maybe 10 drinks-here,about 20---cost Calif 35 bucks---here, cost 70 bucks.Who,s making the money here.Do the idiots who make these laws get a cut or what???

dealing with the tourist every day in our business....Utah really needs to wake up and accept the fact they are not in "main stream America" since moving here 5 years ago I have learned that Utah puts itself on a pedastal, sucks people in, and then reminds them they are not as good as "Native Utahns", you know who you are. Utah is a beautiful state that people want to see, and then they can't wait to get out of here and have some fun. The Europeans are laughing at Utah!

Normalization would be this: You walk into a business, order something, and have it served to you. It isn't, "I'm sorry, but you also need to buy a meal with this." It isn't, "on its way, but to warn you, our long island iced tea isn't what you're used to." And it's certainly not, "I'm sorry, I can only sell you one drink at a time."

Take a hint from Colorado. They make a clear distinction between bar and restaurant too, but it's pretty simple: restaurants have to get 25% of their revenue from food sales. If they don't, they can re-apply to get a bar license.
