Another stadium foul play?

If the amphitheater is so successful, it shouldn't need continued taxpayer subsidies from the county. I would challenge county leaders to assess the percentage of patrons for amphitheater events are from areas other than Sandy. It's about time Sandy city shouldered the entire burden for this entertainment facility.

If the County wants to "mend fences", please do so without costing county taxpayers more than was originally contracted for.

And by the way, a "wink and a nod" won't fool any of us. After years of being hoodwinked, we have, by necessity, become much more aware and astute about how our taxes are used.

When Mayor Corroon first stood against spending taxpayer's money to subsidize the private soccer stadium, he won admiration, praise and support from this long-time Rebublican voter.

Now he's losing it.

I would debate the 'all of the E-Center' comment. The first 11 mil came from Olympic funds which were not all taxes and a lot of payoff of the costs came from revenue from the operation of the building.

No doubt there were some tax money involved, but a lot less than 100%.

That is all well and good, DMN.

But, what about taxpayer funding for highly subsidized FrontRunner trains for yuppies who want to live a couple of counties away from SLC and still get easy transport to their downtown jobs.

A professional at WFRC has called FrontRunner a SPRAWL PUMP, as it will induce more yuppies to buy a few acres 40 miles out, and park their Suburban there. Let taxpayers pick up 80%+ of the cost. (BTW, when calculating cost, a share capital cost is included ).

Dr. Michael Ransom, Chairman of the Economics Department at BYU, has calculated the ANNUAL COST of a new rider on this train at over $13,000. (A new rider is someone who wouldn't have been on one of UTA's often-full express buses).

Nationally, commuter rails are well known for their service to upper income yuppies. Yuppies who make over $75,000 travel 10 times more trips , (trips that are 3 times as long), on these trains, than low income folks making less than $20,000 per year.
