I doubt you will see a reconfiguration of the Washington County Schools so that all four are at the 4A level. From what I have heard there are too many Snow Canyonites that are not willing to move to Dixie. This unwillingness, when coupled with promises made to Snow Canyon boosters by Washington County School District Officials, has proved to be a major sticking point to what appears to be the most logical reconfiguration scenario.

Let the fun begin! I can't wait to see what comes in this thread after folks have checked this one out. I think it is a great idea to make Hurricane and Desert Hills 4A, but I am sure there will be difference of opinion from some of the southerners. Personally, it makes more sense to try to maintain the St. George region as much as possible, even if it is a sacrifice for a couple years. I think it is about equally as fair as the previous draft, other than Uintah being in the UV South instead of North.
Not a bad final draft in my opinion.

Redrawing boundaries sounds like a good idea. Cottonwood busses kids allthe way from 40th west to 13th east. Send some of those kids to Tville or kearns...

Maybe shrink alta's boundaries too. Send some of those sandy kids to jordan, and shift their boundaries so that hillcrest has a decent population.

Washington County School District needs to step up to the plate and make the tough decisons that they were elected and hired to do. Don't cave in to the Snow Canyon whiners. The S.C. whiners club will be the problem. Be tough and make it work. It will be better for all of the Washington county schools not to mention the southern Utah county schools and Uintah.

Are these proposed changes implemented this fall or a year from fall?

Skyline | 2:53 p.m. April 30, 2008
As an alum, a bit sad that my school is moving to 4A, nothing against them, but I loved being in the largest classification.

Skyline will re-emerge and then there will be discussions of who is the best school in the state!

Go Eagles.

To 2008 or 2009 - the changes are effective for the 2009-2010 school year.

Our #'s might not be high enough but lets bring that old region back with the northern schools. We can compete. We might not win region in everthing like we have lately but it will be alot better.

The changes go into effect in time for the 2009-10 school year, according to an article in the Tribune. That article also explains the St. George situation and the reasons for putting Murray and West in that 5A region with Davis County schools a lot better.

1A School | 3:19 p.m. April 30, 2008
Duchesne should move to 2A because they have 166 students.
1A (0-149 students)
2A (150-449 students)

now they still in 1A

Regarding Manti, they are slated to move to 3A also. They weren't mentioned in this article, but on the uhsaa website, they are still in the 3A central region with Delta, North Sanpete, Juab, Richfield, and possibly Canyon View and Cedar.

It just doesn't seem right to have Skyline in 4A. The dwindling school-aged population in the area has really become apparent in the last few years - especially competing with schools like Jordan, Brighton, and Alta with nearly double the population. They will dominate.

4-A, 5-A | 5:56 p.m. April 30, 2008
I admit, this draft is much better. However, since most of Region 6 is moving into 5-A, wouldn't it be the most logical to keep those schools together in the same region?

Skyline I think honestly they will continue to do fine in 5-A, they have 1422, that's really not that far under 5-A. Keep them 5-A.

I still have my beefs about Granger and West moving 5-A. However, at the very least keep these schools in the same region.

Murray and West in Northern??? Please no! Most of the West kids aren't about to drive all the way to Davis or Viewmont to watch their teams get creamed in 5-A.

I think they need to take into account where the schools are, in addition to the numbers. For example, I think most of the schools in the Salt Lake Valley are close enough the same size to be in the same group. I don't have any problem with Highland and Skyline being in 4A with East, West, etc.

Im just glad that they are moving skyline to 5A after my senior year. We will dominate this year and then see if the board will move Skyline down to 4A where the differences in ability will be even more apparent

They should rearrange the boundries of skyline. I know most wouldn't say that but they have one of the smallest boundary area of any school. Not many young kids in that area. Skyline numbers are almost half of some other 5A schools.

what a shock that these three schools West (1634), Cyprus (1659), Granger (1686),who are well over the 5A minimum will argue that they should be left in 4A. these schools could have 2500 kids each and would still claim how poor and picked on they are.

the BOT and the UHSAA are fools if they buy any part of their arguement. note to the boards it is not your job to protect the "competitiveness" of any school. it is not your job to protect a program, any program that thinks (despite being well over the number) it wont be a winner. your job is to enforce the rules and stop making exceptions. this is how you get into this mess every time you realign. make an exception. stop it. you have a chance to get it right for once if you dont blow it by listening to self serving and pious coaches/administration who are afraid to be held to the standard that they should be.

i think the 4A move for skyline is great and it brings back a traditional rival in olympus that the BOT and the UHSAA assassinated years ago in thier rush to do the insane.
