Takes courage to admit you are wrong.

It takes an honorable man to admit a mistake. To say, "I misunderstood your role and incorrectly supposed that you were singling me out" is rare. I don't know this candidate, but I wish all candidates who have ever said something silly in reaction to a rumored comment or action, would have the guts to stand up and say "sorry" for it. If I lived in that district I would seriously consider supporting someone like that.

How could a person keep up on the rules when so much is done in secret in the republican party?

Shouldn't this article be written by Bob Bernick since he's the one who broadcast the unfounded allegations to the whole world without checking on the facts?

And papers wonder why readership is down? It's called trust. We don't trust you tell us the complete story and so we go else where to find what really happened.

I totally agree with you--I thought the EXACT same thing before I saw your comment. Mr. Bob Bernick should be the author of this article because it was he who originally broke that story. Why is he all of a sudden out of the spotlight??

Dave Hansen and re: Dave Hansen, I called Bob Bernick after I saw that this story today had some errors. He was the writer of this article. He said that bylines aren't always used in follow-up articles, mainly due to space limitations in the print edition. In the online edition he has now fixed most of the errors that originally appeared in this article.

The title still is misleading, though. To me, this was never an issue of GOP rules, it was a question of ethics. Also, I didn't apologize to Mrs. Towner in a post; I posted a comment saying that I telephoned her, discussed this with her, and apologized. I also asked her on that phone call if she would like me to request an article retraction, and she said no.

I just realied a mistake Bob Bernick made in his corrections to this article, a mistake that is contrary to what I told him on the phone. The main concern I had with Carrie Towner's calling me originally was that I felt she wa trying to deceive me into believing that I was in Senate District 2, thus making her my SD Chair (which is two levels higher in responsibility than Precinct Chairs like myself). I knew that I live in SD 3.

It was later brought to my attention that my Legislative District (35) isn't entirely within SD 3. Part of it (the part in which Rick Taylor lives) is in SD 2. So I apologized to Carrie Towner once I realized that it was a misunderstanding rather than deceipt.

I appreciated receiving Rob Alexander's call. He was very gracious and I believe he is a fine candidate. I have committed to remaining neutral in the race, which I will continue to do. I wish both candidates the best.

It would be wonderful if everyone in our community cared enough to be involved in politics, despite the misunderstandings and negative publicity.

Once again, Bernick the laziest and most biased political reporter in Utah just couldn't be bothered with checking his facts in case they ruined his chance to take a shot at the republicans. Why does the Deseret News keep him on when there are no doubt better reporters out there willing to work harder and report more accurately?

Stan Lockhart should resign. He made his own personal calls encourage challengers not to run.
