I've known Sen. Fife for years. I good wishes go out to him. Sometimes though, the ability to out hussle, out raise funds, to have the youth and energy of spirit is good and so Sen. Fife's Democratic Senator may be an excellent opportunity begin the grass-roots movement to propell the Democratic Party into the majority in the State of Utah.

Enjoy your moment, Democrats. In November, when most of you go down in defeat because what you represent now and in November is as misguided as it gets, I hope you will look back on your convention with fondness. Springmeyer: you want to rule by executive order? You're not a king. Bradley: when you were in charge of the SL County Commission you didn't do such a good job. Thanks for the property tax increases and tax policies that continue to cost the home owner. Corroon was a sacrificial lamb who got lucky when a popular mayor fell from grace. Suddenly, with a few popular phrases, he became an unexpected hero. If Republicans had the guts to put up a decent candidate you'd go down in flames too. I once felt very comfortable rubbing shoulders with Democrats, but gave up on the Party because there was no room--despite claims otherwise--for someone who was not excessively liberal. No room for the true moderate.

Blow hard, thank you for displaying why I am so thankful to have an open mind. Look at Mayor Carroon, you really believe he is 'excessively liberal?' Please. He is a moderate democrat. Please go work on writing coherent sentences and keep blindly voting Republican despite the fact that on the federal level they have destroyed our country the last 8 years and locally they have been the model for political corruption.

If Governor Huntsman is "being pushed around" by some of the Right-wingers in the state legislature, then explain why he has been on such a liberal streak! From the viewpoint of a conservative Republican, he is right up there with Gov. Arnold in CA & Pres. Bush when it comes to spending other peoples money. Oh, I forgot, our state legislators are right there with them. Considering that UT is one of the most tax crazed states, it is easy to see how the appearance of "fiscal responsibility" shines to the outside world. We have surplus, but it can't come back to those whose money it is - we will now figure out how to use it. So, if you believe that the "far Right" is thumping on Gov. Huntsman, then you are seeing an ineffective thump!

Blow hard may be right. It sounds like he is disappointed with both parties, although I'll leave that for him to say. But SLC'er, I'm so glad you have an open mind. That seems to be a fall-back position any time someone disagrees with someone else politically. Surely you have something to stand on beyond implying another has a closed mind. You criticize someone for challenging a popular mayor that really did benefit from good timing, but the best you can do is come to the defense of the mayor whose name you can't even spell. Democrats like you make Democrats like me work harder to explain to unaffiliated voters how the Democrats are a viable, tolerant party. Ditch the name calling and Jim Bradley condescension and go to work for a candidate of your choice.

I've been a Republican all of my life but one democrat I'll vote for is Horiuchi. I didn't know him from spit, but he helped me through a flood control problem. He's a great guy.
Mark | 11:40 a.m. April 27, 2008
Moleman's point is right on. Parties are irrelevant. Just vote for government that works for the people.

Utah's majority GOP have consistently placed Utah in the top 10 of the most taxed states in the nation (utahtaxpayers assoc.) Doesn't sound conservative for me. Democrats in Utah have my vote this year and McCain for President.
Mark | 12:54 p.m. April 27, 2008
Utah's majority GOP also placed Utah as the best managed state in the nation, according to recent independent reviewers.

Springmeyer seems to enjoy sexist jabs--his biggest complaint about Hunstsman seems to be that he has a 'pretty wife'. Great basis for a hopeless campaign.

Good luck dems! Especially Dave Hogue. It takes great courage to switch parties like that. Mr. Hogue is a man of integrity who is not afraid to make his truly independent voice heard. You are welcome here Dave! Riverton and Herriman are lucky to have a candidate like you. Hopefully they'll be smart enough to pick a representative like you too.

Dave Hogue '08!
Laughable | 10:43 p.m. April 27, 2008
The only victories that Democrats will see this year were at their own convention! What a joke. By the way, Hogue is power driven politician; he's the Merrill Cook of Riverton. Whatever and whichever party it takes to win back his seat. By the way, check out the open secret website to see how much he spent on feeding himself last time he ran. YIKES! He is not courageous, just power hungry.
RINO Spotter | 11:13 p.m. April 27, 2008
Dave Hogue was always a democrat, he was just masquerading as a republican-in name only in order to get elected because he had the misfortune of living in a republican area. He'll get trounced running under his true colors.

It will be sad to see Senator Fife go. He has done so much for the West Side of SLC - worked tirelessly to remove the 900 South rail line, worked to see that the Tire Recycling Plant will be relocated, which will clean up the air in Glendale, has worked to see the Jordan River Parkway through to near completion, has secured funding for Veterans Outreach and Head Start, etc. He is a man who truly cares about the people in his district, rather than caring most about his own political ambition. I hope whoever wins the Senate 1 seat will be half as genuine as Fred was.

It's time for Bradley and Horiuchi to get jobs in the private sector. Oh I forgot, they have never worked in the private sector.
