FLDS hubbub is challenge, opportunity

I don't read your usual pro-Mormon column, but I did today because of the headline.

You are, in a few words, just plain silly.

Having moved from Utah it is so nice to live where "Mormon" is not even a consideration in daily life. FLDS hubbub and Mormons aren't even a topic of conversation except in passing and certainly not newspaper materiel.

That Mormons don't really know what they believe! If they study their history and current beliefs closely there are still beliefs in the church that coincide with these people. They had better take a look, be honest and then do a correction.

That does it. I've read these two for months and they really don't have anything to say.

Desnews, please find us some political commentators who are intelligent, witty and rational.

I don't know why, as a fellow Mormon, I find Webb so smug and irritating. But I sure like Frank. He seems like the kind of guy I'd like to have lunch with. We could share an Italian sausage sandwich and a good Utah raspberry milkshake for dessert and form a Utah Mormon-Utah Italian club.

Good job Frank! And LaVar, get your head out of the sand.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I keep hearing rumors that the LDS Church is trying to distance themselves from that label.

Now that the FLDS Church is so prominently in the news will the Church also distance themselves from the LDS label?

According to Mr. Webb "Obama hasn't shown great appeal beyond African-Americans and liberal urban elitists suffering from white guilt..."

Where in the world have you been getting your info? Last I checked Obama was the biggest name for young, first-time voters (not necessarily black, nor elitist).

He also happens to be the favorite in our Utah household that consists of a slightly older retired farm girl, a working manager, and a young college student. None of us are black, and I don't think we're very "elitist."
