Huntsman steps up nuclear waste fight

But I guess facts are pesky things.
Jon, you are lucky you have a monopoly and your Democrat rival has not chance to be elected otherwise your job would be in serious danger from the wrath of real conservatives unlike yourself.
Looks like a vote for Santa Clause is in order.
Maybe the Italians could use it to fertilize their gardens or something harmless like that. There would obviously be no harm in that because it is so harmless.
Maybe they could sell it as a novelty gift in cheap toys. It would be a big seller I am sure to the American Tourists.
Sounds like these fact loving bloggers above are getting kind of silly in this situation.
Please think with your brain and your wallet not just your wallet people. Wallets are dead cow hide, you can do better than that.
P.S. THIS IMPORT FEE IS A STATE FEE, CHARGED BY THE STATE AND ALL MONEY GOES TO THE STATE FOR, LIKE SCHOOLS, PARKS, ECT..
LET'S KEEP OUR UTAH JOBS HERE..
It does not matter how much money Energy Solutions recieves for the storage. Utahns do not want it here. Keep it in TN or Italy.
"It's not stored in downtown salt Lake, or even southern Utah, but in the western desert" says one Energy Solution employee. I really enjoy the west desert as do many other people in Utah.
I can see that your cow hide has been working diligently this morning. This is because you actually think that your interest in bringing as much waste as possible to Utah represents the thoughts of all the people of Utah. Explain that one.
You actually think people will vote based on this issue. Explain that one.
You can be conservative and use your brain. This is not illegal as far as I know.
I think nuclear power is a useful technology and can be a great tool to provide our energy needs.
I doubt this would ever happen but, wouldn't it make sense for there to be a local plan of how to dispose of the waste locally whenever waste is created? These days it seems that we create waste without thinking about where it will go. Then the owners of the waste look for the location they figure is weak enough that they cannot stop the company or government from shoving the waste down their throats. All in the name of jobs. Beautiful.
Why is the public obligated to want the waste here, just because some company has a waste dump in our state?
Some people do not feel an obligation to accept nuclear waste from other entities transported to their state regardless of how the amount relates to the amount in the world or what class of waste it is. They may not care if the radiation level is similar to that of some every day things. They are still not obligated to accept it into their state.
Freedom to not be obligated to go along with what a company wants is a good thing and I figure most conservatives would like this principle.
Some people do not feel an obligation to make sure Energy Solutions hits their profit target. This is Energy Solutions concern, not everyone elses concern.
Some people are willing to accept that some jobs may be lost in this situation. Job loss is part of life.
Just something to consider.
I am sick to death of all the mindless political goons from Utah willing to sell out their own state, its reputation, and its land, for a campaign contribution and some Jazz tickets. Yes, I am looking squarely at you Rep. Bishop, Uncles Bob and Orrin, and Curtis...and Bramble...and Howard (the Duck) Stephenson...and Ti;lton the bufoon...and...
Thought so.
This is a good thing, it is safe. And, I hope energy solutions is able to do it. Either through the front door, or through legal door. Enough is enough. Facts need to get out, and I encourage everyone to do their homework, and find that you have more toxic stuff in your home, than what this stuff is.
This is just another example of a big business expecting to get their own way.
I find it interesting that some "conservatives" only think with their wallet.
I have helped many people get jobs, given food to those in need, had those in need stay in my home.
I do not do this because I am obligated to do this(socialism). It is because I choose to help others. This is a principle of freedom we have.
My understanding of conservative principles is that each person is responsible for themselves at least to a certain extent. Why am I responsible for the jobs of people at Energy Solutions? I am not. This is socialism for profit.
I am happy to assist anyone laid off from Energy Solutions with finding a job if they need help. My neighbor works there. I will happily help them if they need help finding a new job.
Citizens are still not obligated to go along with Energy Solutions.
My guess is you are not a registered socialist, right? I could be wrong though....
Do your research, this is perfectly safe, especially at a facility like the one ES has. You are depriving the state of jobs and tax dollars. Maybe you love being a top 10 most taxed state in America, but I don't.
Oh and we aren't from ES, maybe we are just more well informed and play less to our emotions and fears than you do. It's sad when a homemaker (you know the woman you despise) has the common sense to support Nuclear Waste but you two don't.
Really, what is there to support about nuclear waste? Especially nuclear waste from a foreign country. Think about what you are saying.
Why not build our own nuclear plants and reap the benefits from the product, as well as the byproduct.
To say that nuclear waste is some panacea to create jobs for Utah is just absurd and laughable. I wonder how much of our economic productivity is from the nuclear waste industry. I imagine it is negligible but do not have any hard numbers. If someone has them please share.
There are so many other ways to create jobs are so much less controversial and more productive. We should be focusing more in these areas.
Just because some company sets up shop in Utah and decides to sponsor the local basketball arena does not mean they are doing us a service by being here. Give me a break.
To keep saying others are not informed as an excuse for supporting ES is just silly. Informed and intelligent people have the perfect right to not want nuclear waste imported to the state. They can do this an not even be considered environmentalists. Imagine that!

Second. It's ok to take in waste from our overseas military but not from the nations that host the same military. What flawed thinking, waste is waste. If it's ok to store the waste from the military then it should be ok to store all the waste. If you do your research, this stuff has about as much risk to you as your florescent light bulbs with their mercury. We should not shout to the world that we want to be apart of the world economy Sir John then stipulating that that only means the good parts. Opposing it sounds good in the press thus it becomes good for your political career, right Matheson. Both of you show a narrow mindedness that is shocking.
