I lie all the time | 10:20 p.m. April 21, 2008
about my age. I look much younger than I really am (about 15 yrs younger), have very small children so when someone asks how old I am and I say '50', they don't believe me. But if I say 38, their cool with it.

Who can blame these kids? This is all they know.
Eye Dee Ten Tee | 10:30 p.m. April 21, 2008
Too many geniuses in Texas. Did anyone consider using a sharpie and writing the name and birthdate on the 'suspects' forehead? Or even using those cute little "Hello, My Name Is_________" stickers? If you are worried they will wash off or tamper with the writing, use ultraviolet ink. If Chuck E. Cheese can keep track of kids, why not the Imperial Texas Government?

I guess if they were not bright enough to dial *69 on the hoax caller who started this, they lack the imagination to deal with this.
Blame the mothers!!! | 10:43 p.m. April 21, 2008
My goodness, everyone wants to blame CPS, well they are going on a few days of information, but these mothers, who help raise each others children, didn't dispute the count. So the government should know even more than the mothers that the count is wrong? Also, give it a rest about the unfairness to the FLDS can we say, CHILD RAPE, say that a few hundred times, cause that is exactly the amount of times it has happened. Our government gives all religions freedom to worship, well I do think that the Christian religions are under attack, but our government also has the power to intervene when the safety and dignity of a child is being hurt by that religious practice.

Give 'em a break, they're law enforcement officials, not mathematicians.

Maybe we should give foster care a chance to positively influence these children. Utah's Dept of Human Services reports that 37.2 % of the youths that left foster care were arrested on felony or misdemeaner charges within 3 years of such "release". For 2004, those graduates of foster care averaged productive wage-earning lives that netted them 54% of the national poverty level of income, not too bad of a earning decline of 69% for 2003 or 90% for 1999, but trends aren't everything.

So lets give foster care a chance. Maybe Texas can do a better job. Besides, outside of the protective compound only 31% of the young women will have one or more abortions before the end of their 19th year of age, if the national average holds consistant. Besides, no one in our country should be allowed to associate freely together and exercise unpopular religious beliefs. Those people should know better, so should have no rights to due process of law. And since one or more of the several hundred may have commited a crime, its obvious that they are all guilty, so no need for a trial anyway. Excuse me while I pack my bags for Russia.

I have been reading about this mess. I saw where a mom said that no one is forced to do anything. What 13-15 yr old girl is emotionally mature enough to decide something as serious as marriage? And if they feel they are not doing anything illegally or morally wrong, why lie about names and such. And why are the women handling it all? Where are the men? Why are they not telling their names? Something is not right in that compound. I can see CPS problems. I still do not believe they should have removed all the children. These kids were born on that compound and know nothing else. This must really be tramatized. Why could they have not just taken the "pregnant teenage girls" they claim the saw and the nursing teenage girls they claim were there? Well, now I guess CPS is doing right by getting the DNA. Then they can put families together. I wonder how many of the MEN will show up to have their DNA taken? Guess then we will find out the truth. A 6yr old child has a 19 yr old mother. child abuse there!!

Some of Douglas's comparisons are a bit weak, but DUI is a good one. Actually, the DUI case is probably stronger than this one, because in a DUI case we assume that the person has been convicted, while here no one has been charged.
Let's say a woman's husband was convicted of DUI. Should we take the children away unless she can fully demonstrate that she will not allow her children to ride with her husband when he is drunk. TO add to this, lets say they work opposite shifts so they can be with there children, will she also have to demonstate that he won't drive the kids at all when he is drunk? This may go on, but I have never seen any indication of children taken from DUI parents.

As to the 16-17 yr old GIRLS being called children, minors I think the poster so elequently referred to them? their called minors BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT THEY ARE!
These kids dont even know who their biological Fathers are, many of them call all of their Fathers 5 wives "Mother" for crying out loud! of course theres going to be confusion, the weak willed women that put their Daughters up for sale to the highest bidder dont even know how many children there are so how is anyone else expected to? This group has been a thorn in the side of Texas since they came here in 2004 so frankly I dont care if the claim of this 16 yr old is bogus or not, whatever it takes to get these innocent kids away from these freaks of nature, if they want to live their nutty way of life more power to them but no Texan is going to stand by and watch them exploit children for their own selfish gain. After Waco the last thing we need is another Cult here.
John Lambert | 11:45 p.m. April 21, 2008
Giving your children bad genes is not a prosecutable crime. Sometimes I think I am reading lines from some futuristic novel about a police state in here.
In breeding is not the same as incest. Just because something is unwise does not mean it is illegal. If it is not illegal, we can not punish people for it.
Stephen J | 11:55 p.m. April 21, 2008
This post has some people on it who are very brain dead. I'm surprised the FLDS cultist let anyone near a computer. Many of us have been listening and reading your profoundly stupid comments. Don't you people know anything about normal behavior? As I see it the FLDS have a relatively permanent disorder of the nervous system and too much mind damage due to too much inbreeding. What a shame.

The FLDS kids should be taken from the FLDS compound permanently!

WOW! looks like Texas is doing so much better at taking care of these children .You try to prove these parents can't take care of their own kids and look at you.You cant even count them all.GOOD ONE !Sad thing is we will all sit back and watch you loose them in filthy foster homes. Once you are through screwing these families up we will be waiting to see if you move in to every other religiouc community and clean them up. Wasn't as well thought out as you thought. Send them all home before you damage them any more than you already have!
Just Wondering | 12:37 a.m. April 22, 2008
Did these people rely on the S.S.(social Services)before this ? Did they pay taxes ?were they a burden on the public in any way?did they keep Texas's hospitals full of sick people,?did they get drunk nightly and call the mighty RANGERS to break up fights? did they yell rude comments and jestures at other Texans?did they break into other peoples cars and homes?Did they murder any one? Were they other wise law abiding citizens? On all that land did they not grow their own crops, milk their own cows, make their own cheese etc.? In Canada the Government stole all the Dukhabor children away from their homes, did the same to the Native people. Now they are paying these now adult children back big time.I hope these kids sue big time before they are grown up.Their innocent childhood, their way of life, their culture their homes ,their security ,every thing ripped out from under them. You have a lot of eyes watching you Texas. What a mess you have got your self into!
Pete | 1:25 a.m. April 22, 2008
The entire case needs to be thrown out and the children returned to their parents. This was a "fishing expedition" based on false testimony. This is a massive abuse of state power. This is "guilty until proven innocent", as a previous poster stated. The original accusation was made by a black Obama delegate named Rozita Swinton, posing as a 16 year old girl being abused at the temple, not compound. Miss Swinton needs to be prosecuted for posting a fraudulent accusation. CPS officials need to be reprimanded and/or fired. Gov. Rick Perry needs to telephone this wack judge and tell her to lay off the kids and their mothers.
Karen | 3:30 a.m. April 22, 2008
I wonder how these woman received any kind of welfare money without birth certificates and the children's SS numbers? It is outrageous that our tax dollars have been given to them! I think it is right to do the DNA. how obvious if a 20 year old woman who has a 5 year old, had him/her at 15? What else can CPS do to get to the bottom of it? I think they are doing the best job then can. God help 'em.

I guess that they could send the babies back so that the head pervert could practice some more "breaking" babies.

Does this mean that any group can have their children removed as a group just because they do not meet the norm for the area they live in. If so, the Amish should be very concerned. We all have different beliefs, soon, it will be those who belief in Christian teachings that will suffer. Note the changes in school, you can teach anything except Christian values.
Not in Texas | 7:47 a.m. April 22, 2008
There are so many stories, mainly coming from CPS. Posts say only a few dozen male children. Where does that come from? CPS. That parents are lying about their names and children's names. Again from CPS. But no one put anyone on the stand and showed evidence of that, just a statement from one worker. Let's wait for the evidence to show that CPS is right (doubtful), in the meantime, nursing children and toddlers are going to be removed from moms contrary to the recommendation of the state's own expert.
The Texan | 7:55 a.m. April 22, 2008
Amazing number of FLDS postings on here. You can't miss their posts. They insult everyone in sight. Spread rumors, lies and such. You people are disgusting. This is America and this is the legal way to do things. You know, legal, like lawful, like obeying the law. Something you thumb your noses at.

The CPS and DPS of Texas are doing an outstanding job given the fact that they're stymied at every turn by the FLDS lying over and over. I noticed the number of women went down when the number of children went up. Coincidence, I doubt it.

Texas has to run DNA on everyone, no one knows who is who or what is what. What a mess.
Head in the Sand | 8:15 a.m. April 22, 2008
"Does this mean that any group can have their children removed as a group just because they do not meet the norm for the area they live in."

Are you saying that even if the norm the group is violating is child sexual abuse, that's acceptable to you, as long as it's based on religion?
CONCERNED | 8:43 a.m. April 22, 2008
These so called wives many times over, milk our system for food stamps, social security, etc. It's an on going thing, Utah and Texas have age limit on marriages, does that cover so called spirital marriages to children?? The wives-women are in bed competition against wife 2 or 3 to get one up with the OLD MAN. yea, I think this is SICK. These children need more in life than whats being offered in the name of religion here I think... the judge is doing great, phone call or no panic it's time something was done to this CULT in texas... look where there leader is, sitting in jail, good riddance.... Read Carolyn Jessop's book, she was one of them, then add your comments...
its_Chet | 8:58 a.m. April 22, 2008
So if someone posts something critical of how Texas is handling this, that automatically makes them FLDS? There's a winning debate strategy! And we'll just ignore the fact that it has a further chilling effect on freedom in America, when you are not allowed to defend innocent people being victimized by a run amok government without being accused of being one of them.

Sounds to me like the sharks have tasted the blood. Everyone who has the nerve to stand up for freedom and justice had better be careful!
I fought the law & the law one | 1:36 p.m. April 22, 2008
If you can't beat em join em, you gotta be slick to out smart the Gov't. Children of various ages and of all socio-economic background are having sex under age! Lets do a poll: If you've had sex under the age of 16, was it consentual on your part? Times have changed, don't you think the laws involving teenagers and sex of today need to be addresed? The FLDS as a group, are not the only ones having sex at a young age people, wake up and smell the coffee. Doctors know for a fact, maturation for girls is occuring at much younger ages than in the past, the sooner we accept that the better. Parents just don't want to believe that there child will not be needing birth control at the tender age of 13. This is the beginning of the teenage years, the birds and the bee's talk should occur at this age! Inbreeding happens not only with FLDS, perhaps such an occurance has happened in the past for an innocent adopted individual not knowing the truth of where they came from, (But that another subject!) These children may never be returned home you're dealing w/ the Gov't!

"how obvious if a 20 year old woman who has a 5 year old, had him/her at 15? "

That's legal in Texas. As many have pointed out, the age of marriage was 14 until 2005. A twenty year old woman with a five year old baby would have conceived in
2003. Not to mention that if rape was involved it would have happened in either Utah or Arizona, not in Texas.

How obvious is that?
Pwuff from LA | 6:34 p.m. April 24, 2008
The story from Wenatchee is instructive. CPS will always find abuse, because for them, to be accused is to be guilty. Humans love to believe someone else is an inadequate parent. Not me.

Government intervention cannot fix this problem. It can traumatize all with separation, shock and confusion, but it cannot help them believe the common american way-of-life is best, nor be grateful to have it enforced upon them. Persecution tends to strengthen people's attachment to their way of life.

The point of "freedom" is to let people think for themselves. Let these kids grow up and compare and contrast for themselves. Some will escape, as many have in the past. CPS cannot FORCE people to accept their values. Won't work.

I wouldn't wish this lifestyle on anyone, yet this "legal" action is illegal, and among the most horrible travesties against citizens I have seen.

If the gossip that these folks lived off welfare payments is correct, they can and should be investigated for that and that alone. Write to the judge. Write to the governor. Write to the mayor.
